    I have recently parted with most of my short skirts. It took me 2 years to realize that I'm not reaching out for those anymore and most likely I never will. My style and my body have changed too much. It is much more than clothing we are parting with when we do declutters. It is like saying goodbye to the past and acknowledging that it is the past and will never come back. Difficult but also bringing a sense of relief once you are ready.

    I loved to see your excitement. I did already a massive declutter with Marie Kondo method. I did it, leave 50% of my wardrobe, but it hurts. And i believe with your tips, it could be easier, less stressful and I can learn about my stile. Thanks, it realy helps. Sorry about the english, I am talking from Brazil. Kisses!

    Thank you so much for taking us with you on your declutter and thinking/talking through it. It’s really been encouraging and inspiring to me as I am also going through my closet and getting more realistic about what I do/can wear since the recent birth of my third baby. My kids are all 5-6 years apart so I’ve been able to wear nicer things, now not able to for awhile… I’m also having to declutter and make “later” piles for things I love that don’t fit me at this stage postpartum, but not sure they will again. I’m storing away a lot of things to “shop” later. Frankly, I’ve been influenced into a more dressy casual style that just hasn’t been practical for me in my life, so seriousl revaluation going on.

    Your process is brilliant and I want to try something similar as well. I have been following your channel for a while and it's been so interesting to see your style change and evolve and still some things never change. I also love that you aren't afraid to sell things that don't work in favour of getting new things. I definitely am planning on doing this with my wardrobe as well. I think we sometimes have to be honest with ourselves and say like your jean jacket this is why I don't enjoy this and then pass it on. I have given away lots of clothes and downgraded some too I definitely have some I want to sell so that I can actually see what I have.

    I feel like I clear out my closet often, but something hit me today watching this. The way you categorized things made it seem more logical. I can sit here and actually think of 3 things that need to totally come out of my closet tomorrow lol. We actually have a very similar wardrobe except I don’t wear blazers and I live in the California desert so I have a few light/medium weight coats. Today while I was out shopping I almost bought a pair of cotton coated cropped pants in black (the coating makes them look like leather). I thought that’s a vibe (the edge) that I like and I opted out and decided to wait and do a little declutter to make sure I will wear them. I too prefer a slight lug sole to my loafers. Plus I find them a bit more comfortable. I need to replace my current ones. I am eyeing some from Thursdays Boots or ABEO footwear. I want a soft leather this go round. I reach for loafers OFTEN. They are my go-to during our Fall/Winter/Spring season so they get lots of wear. Thank you this was really fun to watch and insightful ❤😊

    Love your videos and also follow Sustain This. I like how realistic you are about your clothes and how they have to match your everyday life. It’s good to shop for your realistic self and not your fantasy self, so the clothes will actually be worn! I love the colours in your wardrobe that are pretty similar to mine as I’m also a (soft) summer. After going through my closet I realise I need more good basics and layering pieces that are versatile. And I will try to integrate that beautiful sage green more into my wardrobe. I find it matches well with other neutrals! I’m definitely going to make me a good shopping list, so that I can set my priorities straight 😉 Do share part 3 where you show us how you integrated the ‘I don’t know how’ pieces! ❤

    You said something really simple that helped me a lot “time for those to get a new home”;
    I often hold onto things that I don’t reach for just incase I might like it later but the idea that someone else could love it and give it a better home now makes me motivated to sell or donate these pieces. ❤

    I really enjoyed watching this after just watching part 3. It all came together for me! I feel inspired to do the same exercise with my closet. My three words are classic, comfortable and chic. Or casual as your favorites look a lot like mine! Plus edgy as I have vegan leather pants and Moto plus leather jacket. And animal print. Now I need a collapsible rail to organize everything 😊. Thanks Signe ❤️.

    Where do u put the items “not now but will like later” pieces? Not the seasonal pieces, but the pieces that are not on trend now, but will cycle years later. And how do you know what you have in that category? How often do you check in with it?

    • @lauriejohnson-daley3753
      @lauriejohnson-daley3753 4 місяці тому +3

      I keep them in a tote bin in the closet of our spare bedroom/office. I go into it a few times per year, always reviewing if I still love/want them. You will find over the course of time, you will become pickier about what you want to keep and your reasons for keeping may also change. After doing this for the last 5 years, my “keep for later” items has reduced considerably, only the good quality pieces that I pick up and look at with good feelings make the cut.

    • @user00616
      @user00616 4 місяці тому +1

      @@lauriejohnson-daley3753but if you’re not into it now, how do you decide if you will be in the future?

    • @UseLess_dk
      @UseLess_dk  4 місяці тому +4

      I just put them with my seasonal clothes which are divided by “weight” so all heavier items (for winter) are together, all light items (for summer) and so on. So I keep them in those same storage boxes. It’s very much a gut feeling for me rather than a straight way forward 😊

    • @lauriejohnson-daley3753
      @lauriejohnson-daley3753 4 місяці тому

      @@user00616 if you’re not into it now, you need to ask why? Is it because it doesn’t fit? You don’t like the colour/fabric/style? When you bought it, did you wear it and love it and then lose interest for a particular reason? All of these questions should provide you with answers. If you don’t like it anymore because it’s simply not on trend, then you need to consider if it comes back into trend will you like/love it then? It’s also vital to go back to them in 3,6,9 months and view them with “new” eyes.
      As your sustainable closet evolves, so do your core values as they pertain to how you want to embrace fashion and learn to love the outfits you create with your highly valued pieces. It’s like a muscle that gets stronger the more you use it. You become more confident and sure of what works for you so decisions actually become easier.

  • @shaadfncjl92

    I never really understood why not just keep the pieces if you have the space. Maybe I will like them again in a year or two or three, e.g. a denim mini skirt. I think this trend to declutter and the narrative about giving pieces a new home is just another excuse to get rid of stuff and eventually buy new ones.

    • @amyhoover9
      @amyhoover9 4 місяці тому +3

      Perhaps it's just a matter of priorities and how much of your time and energy you're willing to invest into whatever it is you care about. I personally find myself feeling overwhelmed if I hang onto too much stuff, whether that's clothes, art supplies, or even bath products. It's all about mindset here.... Not every empty space needs to be filled; it's okay to have some margin or breathing room 😊

    • @changveronicas
      @changveronicas Місяць тому

      i agree it’s no problem to keep some iffy items for “shopping your stash” later if you have the space, but i also think its important to keep those things separate from your favorite items bc it can muddy your experience of your wardrobe if you are inundated with choices. also i think that having negative space or breathing room for your items help them to shine more and call for you to wear them.
