  • In this video I go over the differences of a Dynacorn, CJ classics, and generic rear valance for the 65/66 mustang. Lots of details, and ideas for better fitment. It's a long video, and I hope it helps.

Now I understand why restoration work is so expensive. Thank you for the reality check. So much work to get what should be a "bolt on panel" to fit as it should. Thanks for all you do on this channel to enlighten us.

For holding the two pieces of the bracket together you can use a spot of JB weld or 5 minute Araldite or hot glue whist the tripod is holding the panel in place. When dry take away the tripod and the two pieces will be connected and then you can fully weld them together.
With making a filler piece for the corner you can sacrifice the ends off the other 2 panels and cut to the exact size and you'll only have 1 weld seam not 2 weld seams, less heat into the panel the better.

I don't have a body man in me...any metal thinner than 1/8" will be severely mangled...so I really enjoy watching a craftsman mold and adjust sheet metal to suit the end goal and I learn something from every vid. Most importantly, I have my need for patience reinforced. I can hardly wait to see this thing in paint!

My god, Barry! What a pain in the ass! Fantastic work as always! In my experience, I would plug weld all the holes in the tail panel and the valence and drill my own to fit the valence to the car.

Even if you used OEM FORD panels there will be differences and definitely have to massage It to make it fit ,it not LEGOS you can't just snap it together. Love your videos and I deeply miss my 65 mustang

Great video Barry. I just put my valance on my 66 mustang coupe. I had the same problem you did. One Bracket worked, one didn't. I came up with another idea: I removed the wrong bracket as you did. I then bared the metal on the back side of the valance. Then I mounted the bracket to the quarter. Reinstalled the valance screws, then went under the car and was able to push the valance up against the bracket and simply trace the bracket with a black marker. Removed valanced, welded bracket and viola! Fit perfect. My valance was from CJ, but spot welds were not finished. The overall valance was 1/2" short. Lined up perfect on the passenger side, short on the drivers side. I will be welding in a piece like you did as well. Can not thank you enough for the great work you do, and the videos!

Same issue I had when we replaced both rear quarters on our 66’. The valence would not fit, it was a 1/8” too wide on each end. Our solution was to cut the valence in half with an air nibler which took out just enough to make up the gap. The fit was right and in the process decided to weld in the corners instead of trying to make the brackets work.

My 67 fitted good, almost a perfect seam but I am thinking of welding them because I want the no factory seam look, I already did it to the lower rear quarters behind the doors, it has the GT exhaust cut outs. I also did rear quarters and flared them 1 1/2'' I may have been lucky tho because it all depends where and how your rear quarters fit will determine how good your rear valance will fit. I had trouble with the quarters, I had to cut them shorter in height as well as make cuts for the curve for the drop off below the tail lights, I have the California Special fiber glass deck lid and extensions with the duck tail. Any way, good video's, you do a good job of explaining things and taking us through the process one step at a time.....kudo's to you for the educating us.

Great job Barry, glad to see more mustang videos especially on the same topics that I am going through with my rear valance. Same issue with the transition from the valance to the quarter panels. I mocked it up and saw a big gap as well, took a break from that and installing the new interior but will be back on the valance by January. The bolts/retainers that you showed are obviously better than the ones that showed up in my kit, yours stayed in place, mine did not, so I kinda tack welded the bolt to the bracket and it worked for me for the initial mock-up. Keep it up and keep the videos coming brother. Thank you.

The panels you can buy no matter what they are have 3 ratings, good, better & best and are priced the same way, bottom line is they are ALL made in Tiawan 😥.
I'd like to also say, I'm not quite sure on your number randomizer as I'm one of the first people to watch your vids and comment when they come out. That being said, they used the wrong head for that kind of thickness, so that might be the reason why it bled through so harshly. Next size over would've been appropriate for that thickness IMHO.

You can't buy anything factory built and expect to match exacto pieces to it,,,
Not a floor fan,a refrigerator,an automobile,a plane,a chair,,etc,,,, even Hand Built Shelby Cobra's are going to be a little Different from what you have just bought from Jo the parts man,,
Even hand built cars fit worse,,,
Money don't buy frame and body works,,,
