The marmite bottle cracked me up. I grew up with it, but I live in the US now and nobody here really knows what it is. This has rapidly become my favorite youtube channel over the last week. Fantastic work!
Yeah I love the stuff. I even tried the Australian Vegemite once as I assumed it’d be the same - OMG, no! It’s not. It’s how I imagine a cat litter tray in a blender tastes… Glad you’re liking the channel! I’d send you over some Marmite but I’d likely have eaten it before I got around to posting! 🤣
It's great on toast with butter (and possibly some sharp cheese), but it's also good when you stir a spoonful into a pot of beef stew. Really adds a punch of umami flavor.
After looking at probably a hundred different tutorials, I have to say that yours are incredibly educational, counterintuitive and well done. The result is amazing and you show that this is really achievable. There must be a lot of work behind this. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

I really like that you actually explain the properties of the different paints that you use, which helps me understand why you used them and why I would want to use them for this project. I'm really used to people just recommending their sponsor for everything and just pushing them with no understanding of how they might be good, or why they are bad in many applications.
I know right. I turn down most sponsors because I refuse to recommend something I don’t use or don’t think is great. The things you see that I do recommend, I genuinely like and use regularly. And I always give an honest appraisal of a product that has some uses but is not perfect.

Super quick this way. You should have the entire stronghold done in about 4-5 hours! Spray, spritz, drybrush two colours, a few rust details and your done! Then there’s time to add any bits you want to add.

Wish I'd had this when I started painting the MDF ZM terrain (Deadbolt's Derelict), I'm still stuck in the stippling and sponging, it's so soul sucking I just kept putting it off and away (sometimes months at a time). But when I get around the the plastic GW ZM terrain I'll be referring back to this. Thank you for another inspirational, in depth and easy to follow video. This will come in really handy down the line. Take care bud 😉

Marmite... Off course, that is how you do it. Up here we usually use coffe but obviously your method seesm more productive than mine so might give it a try :)
Great video, and channel. I'm really enjoying pretty much everything you are putting out. I am preparing to paint my terrain, but as i've never done alot of it before, could you recommend a drybrush to use (for the white gold / black brown parts)? I imagine any brush I use for this much terrain is going to get pretty battered.
Thanks. For drybrushing that much terrain. A cheap makeup brush set from Amazon. It’ll come with a bunch of sizes and doesn’t matter if they get battered. 👍🏼
Your channel and Necromunda focused videos are very informative and entertaining. Thank you, sir. One question about this approach: It’s not difficult to glue the separate plastic parts together if they’re both primed and painted?
Hey thanks! I tend to focus on keeping things modular and only glue together the bits in sections. I wouldn’t recommend painting before gluing on any model because often the added paint makes the fine joins not fit 100% perfectly together. On terrain you’d get small gaps. And on miniatures, sometimes they don’t fit together at all. I tried this once years ago as I thought it would be quicker to paint first, glue second. But when I tried to glue the model together none of the parts fit well and glued paint to paint, not plastic to plastic.
White gold is just a more yellowy silver. You could mix it by adding a tiny bit of yellow into a bright silver. And as it’s a drybrush no need to worry about thinning.
I gave up on walking dead after season one and the show actually lost me in the opening scene when they made that little girl zombie pick up the cuddly toy and decided to give the zombies memory 😅 I was like have they ruined it in the opening shot?! Yes yes they have! Idiots! I’m no fool I’ve got no time to watch lowest common trash made by people that think the audience won’t notice they being plAyed
@thestateofplay2023 I'm a little confused. When you say 'dark brown' are you referring to the Hyrax spray or the laser cut brown spray? Do you have any recommended alternatives for laser cut brown? They are impossible to get in Australia. Thanks!

I bought 4. Two of each, but it only took 2 because you just spritz in patches. I think Plastikote do rust sprays too. I haven’t tried them but maybe they’re a good price in AU?

@@thestateofplay2023 Tell me a little bit about what the tops on the columns and walls are supposed to be. Are they and the platforms with the ossified earth prime coat supposed to be a galvanized metal? I was thinking that I might want to repaint them grey to match cement of the interior wall, but I want to make sure I understand what your recipe is trying to do before deviating from it.
It was basically an oxidised metal that tends to have blues, oranges and creams in it. As Necromunda is 10s of thousands of years old making it concrete would have meant adding my loads of cracks where people walk. But In my case it was a simple case of making them match the battlemat I use.

But I am thinking that cement colored wall and column toppers will tie the look of metal cladding on concrete walls together even more. (And, while gangers may climb on top of walls and columns that aren't topped by platforms, I don't think there would be regular foot traffic there).

I noticed that from the TTcombat website, laser cut brown is quite dark, but in the video it comes out lighter than Hyrax brown? Thanks!
Any darkish brown will work as it gets mostly covered by the rusts.

Yes, my logic was the stronghold was all metal so everything rusted.

How long did it take you to finish it all ... In total?
About 5 full days spread out across maybe 3 weeks. Not including weekends. I don’t do weekends. 🤣
