He's been in over 22 years and is marking time to retirement (hence, the pension crack he made). In the Army, he'd be described as having gone ROAD - Retired On Active Duty. Basically, lazily doing the bare minimum to complete the job and focusing on what happens when they get out. The only thing he has been shown putting ANY effort into was staying Union Rep, and as Harper noted, that was because he made his own benefits package, and "Smitty is all about the benefits."
The one thing I really wanna see is smitty break character and actually do something serious and heroic, something that shows 1) he actually cares about his job 2) that he does care for his team 3) that he’s willing to go above and beyond. Like right before his retirement something goes down and basically he’s the last hope and not only does he rise to the occasion he goes above and beyond ultimately maybe getting LAPDs highest honor for valor
It would be like in Brooklyn Nine-Nine when we find out Hitchcock and Scully are actually crime-solving geniuses. Everyone's jaws drop because you never expect it from the characters.
He did have a pretty great (mostly offscreen) moment in the season 4 finale when he stopped a truck loaded with explosives. And his first real episode in season 2, The Bet, where he was West's TO for the day. Which is actually a pretty important episode for establishing why Smitty's the way he is, as one of the big themes there is cop burnout. He's not the way he is because he's incompetent, he's mentally exhausted from years of working the beat and just wants to make it to retirement.
He does also show decent knowledge of how the department works as when Lucy came to him to try and get Tim into metro, he immediately figured out the pattern and shocked her with that knowledge
How is this guy still a cop? Every time i see him, he's screwing up SOMETHING! You'd think by now, they'd cut their losses and spend more time on cops who AREN'T idiots
Not to mention that he actually DESERVES to be fired after the one time he was in charge and he let half the staff go home. Of course that also looks bad on the people who took advantage like that. But still. He shouldn’t be a cop. Period
@@jeremydale4548I think he’s still a cop because he shows basic knowledge of the station when Lucy wanted get Tim into Metro also the rest of the station when smitty was in charge the others took advantage of Smitty letting people go home so I feel like maybe the other people told the truth to save smitty’s job and said that smitty is only Half to blame for letting half of the station go home since iam sure there are people who learned from someone else that smitty was letting people go home he probably wasn’t trying to let every single person go home.
@DarkWarden041:smitty proved once before that he’s not entirely an idiot since he proved to Lucy that he has basic knowledge of the station when Lucy wanted Tim to get into Metro
And even after catching him placing bets on the breakup, Lucy is the first one to his aid. That’s our girl!
He kinda had that coming after what he did in the last episode 😂
wait i forgot, what did he do?
I'm in France, we don't have the full episodes just what people put here. What did Smitty do to Lucy in the last episode?
@@maudef5 oh i remember, he ran bets on lucy and tims break up
How is smitty a cop? The shoot out was between Eastern Front and Russian Mob. He just answered his own question.
Lol 😂
Yeah it's a miracle...
The Think Blue Shield and a good union is how.

Bro its a show, most of the scenes are unrealistic and without any kind of logic
Smitty!!!! 😆 Yes, deserved but also, he took it like a champ. And then took something positive away from it too. Love him!
Karma Smitty. Russian style.

I kinda feel he'll have a 'take a bullet' moment before he retires.

That'd be interesting to watch!😂❤

But he has the voice style

Smitty that elbow like a champ and got back up that's fire 🔥 Right there ,but on a serious note that guy is going away for a long time
Was the Punchcard a pun because that's good.

@Amanda3.0 I have no clue. Someone said it was available in The Netherlands on Netflix, no idea if that also applies to Sweden.
You can buy the season on UA-cam in Canada.

Much like the Lord God Himself, the ways of the Algorithm are strange and unknowable to us mere mortals.
Love that Smitty lol.

Made bets and gossip about the break up.
Some stuffs that would make teenagers angry
