+Jim Lahey there are two main ways ppl use asmr vids, the first is they use it as background noise sort of like those white noise or ocean wave sound generators, it's for general relaxation, and this is where some ppl find it dumb or pointless, but that's not the real effect or the purpose of asmr. The second is of course for the tingles, i personaly don't really like the word "tingles" 'cause it sounds kinda silly and it doesn't help for ppl to take it seriously, but the tingles are a real sensation of varying degrees of intensity that usually starts from the back of the head and travels almost immediately down the spine and it can spread to the lower back, legs and arms, and different ppl have different triggers for this, all kinds of sounds, movements or just observing ppl doing things in a meticulous manner. You may have felt something similar when having a haircut, it's also similar to "goose bumps" sensation only more intense, but goose bumps from a positive emotional stimuli like hearing a song or a part of a song you really like, not like from being cold. The feeling is mildly euphoric and deeply relaxing, especially when it's intense and when it comes in waves. In like 10 seconds you can get sleepy, your eyes gonna get very heavy. And this is where people get disbelieving, i guess they think this feeling doesn't really exist because they can't feel it. It's simple, some ppl experience it some don't and everyone can believe what they want, but i'm telling you it's real, i've felt it when i was a kid by watching a friend of mine draw, way before youtube, way before it even had a name.

that's because its become the internet's newest cash cow, which im kind of disgusted by, seeing all these 'hollywood channels' exploiting it for its strong viewership. i do like that it exposes a massive audience to it, but it's still sleazy i only give W Magazine a pass, because they had a 30min Aubrey Plaza video that was amazing, and aubrey is very genuine about it.
This may be the start of the first ASMR Stand-Up era. Maybe a channel devoted to someone retelling Carlin, Pryor, Eddie Murphy and other classic comedy acts ASMR style.
