After watching your podcasts when I was in Accra during most of 2020 when the borders and airport were closed, I finally visited your shop for the first time last week and picked up the used F5 that I had ordered online from home in Spain. Great to see the shop and I will surely be back again. Looking forward to using the F5 over the Christmas break, very excited to be using film again!

Sorry about this guys, because I've bought quite a bit of equipment from you, but I got my F5 in mint condition from Ebay for £190. The sellers description made it sound as if it was in OKish condition but it is literally immaculate and everything functions correctly.

Superb show Becky and Kon . Love how you know every little detail of this stunning body . With my F2 I used to hand crank a half used film back into the cassette leaving the leader out . To be able to reload it into the camera at a later date . Winding the camera on to the no. of exposures used . While I then used a new roll . B/W to Colour for example . Can the F5 hand rewind the film or when auto rewind can the film leader be prevented from entering the cassette ? I now see Tri-x is £12 per roll . Mental !!!

Got my F5 from Grays of Westminster and it is still in fabulous condition! A super camera to use for every subject. Pair it with an 80-200 F2.8 and you have a heck of a lot of weight! Love the camera.

I bought a F5 a few years ago to take a film course. At a meetup a pro photographer looked at it, and said that it looks like a modern camera. While it may be a little heavy, it's nothing like my Mamiya RB67.

Great show! Can't wait for the F3(P) video 🙂. I've got six Nikon film camera bodies compared to just my two digital Nikon bodies. The film cameras are such wonderful pieces of mechatronic engineering, which you can experience in a tactile way. I do love my D5 and D850, but my favourite film cameras are my F3P and F6, which I still shoot that yield such gorgeous photos when shot and developed properly!

I love the F5, I have 2 bodies. I've had them for 8 years. I carried them with me when action was the priority. I carried one with b&w and the other with color film. I started with D series lenses and then upgraded to the G series when I could afford them. Now, I use all my lenses on my D810 as well. I love using the F5.

I recently gave up my F5 as part of a trade for a D4, but kept my F100, for one reason only, illuminated focus point! I could never understand why Nikon included this in their high end and mid-range cameras of the time, but not their Pro cameras. Maybe they felt it was too unprofessional a feature for a Pro body. Especially coming from a DSLR where it is standard on all, it seems weird to use an AF film camera that does not have this invaluable feature.

rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush. the sticky rubber will start to dissolve. wipe with till dry and repeat. let it sit overnight and check sticky level in the morning. apply 1 squirt of armor-all to the toothbrush and coat the rubber. allow to dry. back to good except the mode guide on the n90 back goes away with the stickiness.

I upgraded from my old Nikon F3HP in 1999 to an new F5 which I still have today in mint condition. Even though I shoot today with a D850 digital, on occasion I pull out the F5 to shoot film because I still love film. However, ever since the discontinuation of Kodachrome film in 2010 it's not too often that I use it. Kodachrome 25, long gone was my favorite film ever. I will never sell my F5. I think it's the best 35mm film camera ever made. I also had a Leica R8 for awhile but sold it because everything for that camera system was too much money and I saw no perceivable difference in image quality between that and the F5 with premier lenses. Great video! 👍🎞📷

Years ago, I bought a like-new-in-box Nikon F-5 from a trusted seller in Japan, then installed a new-in-box MF-28 data back to it, also from the same seller, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY F5. Many have complained about the weight of the F5, but I am accustomed to heavy DSLR's, such as my Nikon D810 with Nikon MB-D12 vertical battery grip. I have shot film since high school, using my Pentax ME Super, which I also used as a state criminal investigator for forensic crime scene photos in the 1990's. I would have loved having my Nikon F5 during those years and, especially, afterward when I also did spec work as a news photographer. I was disappointed with digital cameras in the early years, to be honest, so I continued using film cameras until it became necessary to move to digital SLR's. I still find that my shots are more intentional when shooting film vs. digital and my enjoyment of shooting film probably exceeds shooting digital just a tiny bit, though I do enjoy the added creativity that I can get from working on my digital RAW images on the computer from my D810.

@@lightspeed2121 Sounds like you got a great couple of F5s, already upgraded with the MF-28s. I have the software kit still in the box, too, with the CD and cable, that would allow me to connect to the MF-28 so I could download shot info, customize imprinting, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have a PC with the older MS-Windows running on it in order to install and use the software CD and connect the cable. 😢

Becky, one downside to the F5 is that, although it is electronic and customisable in nature, it DID NOT have a great layout, ie: buttons, and labled at that!!- NEED a QR card, which came with it to 'de-code' the settings menu!- modern D3/4/5/6 are better at this, now!!
