@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Joking aside, it is odd how different cameras impact on the way you shoot, how you shoot and the resulting images. Choosing a camera for a shoot is just as important as the glass you choose and the film you stick in it. Whilst the film stock and the glass will have the biggest impact on the final image, for me at least, the camera I choose to use has the biggest impact in terms of how I shoot. I am fortunate to have a large selection of systems to choose from! Everything from 110 to 4x5. 😏
I’ve been following your channel for a while and I wanted to say that I’m loving the humour, energy and sharing your putting in your blogs. My wife was watching with me and says : I don’t understand what is the interest in his photography (she doesn’t speak English), when I explained that you took an opportunity regarding the weather you were dealing with to go out and shoot to experiment a subject, film stock and just have a day out and a walk witch would mean printing and develop afterwards then she got the gift. I often tell her I’m not feeling like going for a shoot because I’m not inspired, picking a subject before leaving the house actually makes sense and I will try it out ! Take care
I just found a MINT condition F5 at a store near where I live in New Jersey. I love this camera so much that I bought another one, making this my 3rd F5 in my possession and still being used. Great video as always.
A nice tour of Sodor island, that was. I like interplay with manmade and nature, so my favourite is the post by the crossing with the birdshit on it. Nice composition, too.
Good on you that found the motivation to get out and do something with the camera. I am in a deep photographic rut at the moment. So different to last year when I was full of enthusiasm and ideas.
Another great vid Rog, well done for standing out from the photography channel crowd! your originality and sense of humour has made this my favourite channel. Keep em coming!!
I personally think. That is my favourite video from you so far. Very settled. Very relaxing. Very deep in your mind to see what you see. I like to see more like this 👍🏻
Great video I also enjoy the slower process of analogue as every shot is precious I love the idea of a theme day and or shoot fantastic images keep up the great work
After years of shooting digital , I found myself really missing film. Coincidentally I bought myself an F5 and ordered a whack load of HP5 400 to get started again. I feel totally re-inspired and this video has added to that. Thank you!
Superb video Roger . I found it so relaxing and inspiring . Loved the humour as usual and the back to basics of photography of just going out with a camera and enjoying yourself .I’m going have to have a go at something like this with the Nikon F4 I picked up at a car boot sale recently, though I need a work out first as it weights a Ton !
Love the pace of this video. Your deliberate approach really yielded some fantastic images. Perhaps it’s muscle memory but the Nikon F5 has a second shutter release that allows you to shoot in portrait mode without lifting/rotating your arms over the side of your head. Thanks for sharing your thought process boss!
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Handy indeed especially with a weighty camera like the F5 but hey to each their own. Your beautiful images speak for themselves. Keep up the great work and engaging content. You’re a natural showman and educator! Thanks!
Hello boss, slowly 🐌 catching up, interesting way of looking at it, pick an everyday...thing/item or whatever it is classed as and go do it.. think I will give it a whirl...plastic
I love getting in close on everyday things. Or just looking up to see what details are there. My favourite lens is my 105mm on my canon 1N for this very reason :)
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss looking round the web repairs seem to be a problem Roger, I'm sure parts are the problem . maybe an Nikon F2 might be the answer less electronics. Thanks a mil very quick response
Do you generally just take one lens (seems like that's a good way to stop myself/yourself faffing about with kit instead of concentration on finding things with what you have at hand).
More often than not yes. Less gear in my pocket and just that lens to think about. Sometimes I would kick myself if I wanted say a wider angle and I only got a 50mm! Sometimes I take a 28 and a 50 and wear a bum bag around my waist. But mostly just one lens.
Are you going to go back and shoot a roll of Portra? As you mentioned, could be a color photographer's dream. I see a lot there that could be wall worthy.
Hi Roger, great video as always ! Do you find yourself wanting a more automatic camera, even though you like to print in the darkroom ? I've been thinking about this for a while, it might seem strange, but I miss a bit of automation when I shoot with my Pentax Spotmatic, even though it would be my dream to build my own darkroom one day, sometimes autofocus and autoexposure can be a handy tool to make the creative decisions, maybe because I'm struggling with manual focusing.
Hey Ryan. I like shooting the Nikon f90x and F5 for its accurate auto shooting. Don't have to think in aperture priority. Just choose your aperture and off you go. Usually when I'm shooting street objects. But. Sometimes if the sky is involved I have to lock my exposure where I'm happy. Usually my metering is set to matrix
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Great cameras, for a lot of situations. Having these features can make for better composition, since you don't need to concentrate on the exposure. Enjoy your cameras !
I only have a Sigma 28-135 and a Nikon 50mm for it. I mostly just use the 50. Without filters. And usually I shoot it in aperture priority on matrix. Does a sterling job.
No. You have to over develop the film. I was in effect under exposing my film. So I needed to over develop or the negs would have been 2 stops under exposed and pretty flat. Normal time was 10 mins. I went for 20.
Love your videos, 'inspiration for normal folks' I call them. Have you ever considered doing a video for photographers with a disability? Photographing while using a walking stick? Walking frame? Wheelchair even? I'm sure there must be others who'd very much appreciate it.
I walk with a crutch and sometimes find it useful to just adjust the height of it if I need a slower shutter speed so I can rest my arm in it and use it as a monopod. Sometimes useful to get that extra stability.
Maybe its a British thing but the first thing I look at when planning a shoot is what's the weather going to be, not what camera or film or what to shoot. Weather first, always. I should shoot more close ups. I get pulled into taking vistas, somehow I feel vistas have more 'value' (which is rubbish) and is a mindset I have to shift but as I'm counting the pennies to buy film at the moment I feel I need to make every shot count. I should also shoot more b&w but I associate b&w with industrial, which to be honest their ain't much of where I live. Preconceptions and bad habits!
When I'm struggling for inspiration I find that buying a new camera always helps!! 😊
Laying down on the ground with your new camera always helps me get creative- bugs life perspective.
When I'm struggling I always look for new film to shoot. It helps me to be creative.
Ha ha Baxter could start a fun thread there. Had to pin that

Roger, you should ask to buy one of those telephone booths so you can preserve it. Probably cheap. They will end up in a landfill, which is too bad.
When you push a 100 film to 400, do you still develop it as a 100?

I'm not sure I'd be able to make such a video. But I do know a friend who is a photographer and wheelchair bound and she is an inspiration.
