Chickens are actually very sweet, they are happier the more eggs they have, they are NOT like humans at all. All she could think of, was "wow I will have all these beautiful babies" and she tucked them gently under her, completely content.
That is an awesome dance. I'm in the same situation. Broody hen that I moved last night, setting on one unfertile egg and a golf ball. I have a friend collecting (hopefully) fertile eggs for me to put under her.
yeah i have received my ebay eggs today and i have took 6 eggs out under her and put the fertilized ones under her but shes gets a bit angry she dosent peck or anything its just as i dont know what is she going to do
i have some hens, one of them layed eggs for the first time then went on brooding mode. but father told me that if i put the fertile eggs under it, they won't hatch because it's its first time brooding. is that true ??????
Natalyaandall Yes they do, however they eat and drink far less frequently than normal. They get up perhaps once per day to do this so it is good for them to have access to food and water!
Natalyaandall I have had some hens who in the 21 day incubation period only get off 3 or 4 times. In my years of raising poultry it really depends on the hen and how good of a setter she is. I have found every bird is different.
Natalyaandall Yes what ThirstyPoultry said. I couldn't tell you how often my hen got up but I know she was accessing food every other day or so. Just make sure food and water are available!
you actually didn't have to move the hen. just reach in, take the 2 eggs and put the new ones in front of her. She'll take care of the rest within minutes.
+Delightra Cardeanne Hello! Sorry for the delay on this. Out of 14 total, 11 hatched successfully and then two died, leaving us with 9. Not too bad. You can expect about a 70% success rate in a home farm operation and don't forget roughly half will be males and half females. I had 4 males in this bunch out of 9.
Is there a certain time when they go broody? Non of my hens have gone broody yet and they're two years old. Is it too late to do this? I also have two really friendly orpingtons. ♡
No telling but our Buffy goes broody in the summer. From what I understand, Buff Orpingtons are famous for going broody. This is the second time she's gone broody. She went broody the first time last summer but she snapped out of it when we locked her out of the coop. This year she wouldn't snap out of it so we got her some fertilized eggs. We will keep the hens from this clutch and when she goes broody again, get her eggs again and sell the pullets. Make some money back for feed and bedding. She's 2 or 3 years old, I can't remember anymore.
Sure it's normal! She's in broody mode and she's not happy with you! It's ok, just put the eggs in as quickly as possible and then leave her. She'll be fine!
Too many eggs. Keep in mind that she has to keep all those eggs at 100 degrees. Eggs are like a heat-sink, pulling heat from her body. Do the research and find out how many eggs that breed would normally hatch in a year. Good Luck, +Blessings
I love the look on her face when you put her back like damn I don't remember laying all these
Wow! She is looking at all those eggs as if to say 'I didn't ask for this kind of responsibility'. She is sweet.
Leslie Amador she's a good hen.
She's like, 'will I get paid more for this?'
Nice to see how she sat back on them, love the sounds hens make.

What's much better is that they don't have thoughts of murdering their babies for sake of their sick fetish!
@@thegiantratthatmakesalloft9415 ??????

Not really i sometimes put 20
noo

This was a really helpful video, thank you! Our broody took the eggs exactly as your video showed.

is there a certain time when hens are more likely to go broody?
It’s up to the hen. Some do and dont
good
Hi, I am buying eggs for my hen. Do you have to separate them from the other birds?
+Magenta Dawn Sky That's highly recommanded. Otherwise it's possible that the brody hen can't find its way back to the right nest
Can I settle these eggs in the summers
Did you candle them when they arrived and did they have detached air cells
Yes I did. They were all pretty good!
how could I have those eggs?
Do hens eat anything and drink while sitting on the eggs?
Natalyaandall Yes they do, however they eat and drink far less frequently than normal. They get up perhaps once per day to do this so it is good for them to have access to food and water!
Yes but make sure when you put the water in its not deep because the chicks might drown when they hatch :)

+ThirstyPoultry how can you help a not normally broody hen go broody?

J Phn He had to clean the grass or put new grass in
So, the question remains. How many hatched?

+tinsley207 what kind of hen is she?
Buff Orpington. We have one that's gone broody and is sitting on eggs right now. 1 week down, 2 to go. This is our first time so we're excited.

+Arwen The fabulous I have two cochin bantams and 1 lohmann brown.
I love chickens. What colour are yours
Where's the video of hatching?
Can fertile eggs from a hen not yet broody be placed under a presently brooding hen successfully...
Certainly! Just be sure to keep track of it all or at least place them all under the broody hen at the same time.
Question ftgtty and I don't know how to make a new
What the hell am I doing here? I should be studying for midterms! I don't even like eggs or have any chickens....
LOL!!!!
Gabriel Wright thats an old one
Buff Orpingtons are the best
3:04 what is he doing??
SHE!!!! not he
i have 6 more eggs to put under her but the more deeper i go under her the more angry she gets is that normal or is she going to get mad and get up?
Sure it's normal! She's in broody mode and she's not happy with you! It's ok, just put the eggs in as quickly as possible and then leave her. She'll be fine!

most of the time, she would poop when she gets off the nest to get food and drink.
Why not just get a rooster and reproduce at no cost?
