Gio Reyna’s parents are the PRIME EXAMPLE of what’s wrong with US soccer.
And Berhalter isn’t? 🤡
@@alonzor.2912 Both
When Claudio called the US Federation a political clown show, he's complelty right. We're finally seeing how messed up they are. For those of you that don't know, look up who Greggs brother is and then you'll figure out how someone who has a losing record in 2nd and 3rd division leagues got the USMNT job.
Ali is a blowhard. How does he know there were earlier issues? 5:47
Kinda like pulishit dad liking bad comments about Mount and Havertz and Tuchel. Man really thought pulishit's flopping is Tuchel's fault? Just like the usmnt cult, he's a disgrace. Reyna has a chance to get rid of them before it's too late, otherwise he's going the pulishit way.
The French National Team and the USMNT going for the Soccer Mom Trophy

100% with Stevie.
There's a big difference between someone mentioning a player publicly who wasn't trying versus someone going around trying to ruin a managers career. What Berhalter did was an error of judgement but what the Reynas did was malicious & low
Exactly! Why is Moreno even trying to both side this? Berhalter whole prefesional career was put at risk not to mention some serious legal criminal remifications.
Especially when one of those things was already in full swing before the other happened. AND when the people doing that thing pointed at the event that happened LATER as the reason.
Also, he was speaking at a conference about leadership, he didn't just bring it up out of left field
There is always more than this story, These families have been 'friends" for years, There's a lot of new nuances to the mess that was created.
Berhalter never mentioned the player publicly, guys like Ale Moreno and everyone posting here did. I would bet that most of the people at that "off-the-record" conference didn't even know who he was talking about.
You can tell that Ale and Reyna are friends and/or cordial. He is staying on the fence by blaming both
Yea, this is embarrassing. If I was on a professional sports team and my parents were caught moving like this because I didn't get to play, I think that'd be more embarrassing than just not playing.
Imagine your team mates knowing the only reason you are in the line up is because your mommy complained 🤦🏽♂️
@@kadarabdullahi Imagine thinking the only reason Reyna would get into the lineup is because of his mother. Next time, just tell us you don't actually watch football.
@@PattyKakes7787 Lol way to jump to conclusions. My point was that the team atmosphere would be impacted based on the perceived (in this case actually justified) bias toward Reyna's inclusion. It has nothing to with his skills. I don't follow USMNT but as a long time Oranje fan, I've seen super talented people getting left behind because of their negative impact on the overall team. I think the likes of Edgar Davids would be considered a better footballer than Reyna.
The investigation did find material evidence of overreach from Claudio Reyna over the last 8 yrs, "advocating" for his kids' involvement in US soccer programs. It's reasonable to infer that, while Gio Reyna maybe a good player, he/sibling did benefit from their dad's influence in the US soccer fraternity
@@user-mv7kh5sv9z This kind of thing inevitably happens all the time when you have some clout like Claudio Reyna does. It's only when you step the line to do blatantly stupid things verging on harassment that all of those minor acts of "advocating" come into the light.
The Reyna family is about as badly behaved as a family can possibly be. Terrible example.
100% with Stevie here. Let's not forget the threats started after the first game. The report also mentions that the Reyna's have had a habit of doing similar throughout Gios entire career. Probably why he went into the camp acting entitled and superior, prompting the coach to tell him his playing time would be reduced. He may have potential, but what exactly has he achieved to put himself on a pedestal above his teammates?
You can't be serious...? What has he done? Um idk play for Borussia Dortmund? No one truly understands the family dynamics here between the Reynas and Berhalters but to just casually suggest he's entitled and acted superior without being there is ignorant. Not one player has come out against Gio and slandered him.. not from the USMNT or Dortmund. He's a 20 year old kid ffs....
If I were USSF, I would rehire Berhalter and tell Reyna he will never play for the US for the foreseeable future. And if Berhalter doesn't perform, sack him and hire a better manager and still order him not to call up Reyna until a big lesson is learned.
@@landonpassarelli5673 and what does playing for Dortmund entitle him to? He was never going to be a starter for the team in this latest World Cup. He's not better than Pulisic, and he's not better than Weah. Those are the two positions (attacking winger) that Reyna was vying for. The kid has acted entitled going back to the U-17's , and it's easy to see why with his parents behavior back then, and up to now.
@@afckajjansi so we shouldnt play our best player because a coach who was trash dorsnt like him… what has berghalter done to keep his job besides creating this gigantic f up???
@@landonpassarelli5673 so he's still beneath Pulisic?
Ale says he is not defending the Reynas, but he clearly is doing exactly that. This is all on the Reynas, they are acting entitled, they used their relationships with the Berhalters to negative effect and that has effectively ruled out Gregg Berhalter from taking a job he clearly is very good at as his record with the USMNT shows. The Reynas have clearly been trying to influence for their son since 2016.
Ale: I'm not defending the Reynas, but here is my defence.
He’s right tho
This Ale Moreno guy is spewing rubbish. There is no reason for you to do that
You can tell that Ale and Reyna are friends and/or cordial. He is staying on the fence by blaming both
When you have a situation like this where so many of the people involved are connected it can either make things work better or make them worse. It certainly made them worse here. Hopefully getting some new people into these positions will make things better.
Why is this dude defending that family
Latino pride?
I get what Ale is trying to say about the mom EXCEPT the timeline doesn't match that justification. She threatened to go public with this information before thr tournament was over, so it's clearly about playing time. Berhalter's indiscreet statements about Gio Reyna was just the tipping point.
Thank you. Listening to him bringing up what the coach said after the wc, I kept thinking doesnt he realise she already threatened him during the World Cup.
I can only wonder if they do this to Edin Terzic as well!!
Moreno,stick to the EVIDENCE!
Ale is trying hard to deny the facts
Viva la raza
You can tell that Ale and Reyna are friends and/or cordial. He is staying on the fence by blaming both
Sad. My only thought is the Reynas lost a son and that has affected them to over compensate with anything related to their other son Gio. Either way USSF needs to put procedures in place for future interactions with USSF staff and player parents.
Lastly a foreign or outside coach is needed going forward for the US team so their is no incestious ties.
What about Jesse March?
@@seanm3463 I don't think Marsch is the right coach right now. His last two coaching stints didn't work out. He has not been successful recently. Plus his style is very system driven which is what we have just left with GGG. Down the road maybe. After he has maybe had another successful run with a new team.
I rated Claudio Reyna high based on his exploits on football field but after this World Cup fiasco with his family, I have no respect 4 him and family. Next that might explode sooner than later, is Xtian Pulisic & family, his dad always talking trash & tweeting whenever his son is having difficulty with playing time @ his club.
What Jan said about them thinking they're helping their son but it's actually the opposite is very true.
What is Ali really trying to say here?

The Reynas were out of line but they had a point. GGG held the team back.
Not as much as gio held them back with poor work ethic
To be fair all of twitter was upset Reyna was not playing, it was a glaring factor when he was not on the field.

Ale you've lost it son. Usually agree with you, but you've lost it on this one. Well done Stevie until the end. You can absolutely have a USMNT squad without Reyna.
Hurt people hurt people. Sad for them but not an excuse.
What an embarrassment.
Ale tried to criticize both sides and failed miserably. There are no both sides in this Berhalter-Reyna saga. Gio had attitude problems in the US squad; Berhalter was honest that there was a toxic atmosphere created by Gio and his parents. And not to mention, Gio has not been that great with Dortmund over the last few years -- good, but not great.
The result of this soap opera is more of an indictment of Claudio and his wife trying to use their power/influence in US football (or soccer) to have the US Soccer Federation prioritize Gio, than Berhalter's 1991 DV case back.
I am not surprised that this thing happens. In North America, a lot of parents whose young kids in high schools and colleges try to influence coaches' decisions, hoping their kids get showcased to pro scouts and drafted in very early rounds.
But if it was solved why tf would you as a under contract coach bring that ish up… bcuz he knew at his core his choice to play Morris and Jesus over gio was inexcusable
Sporting criticism of Gregg is completely warranted. But what the Reyna's did is personal. What did Gregg do wrong exactly?
Refuse to play arguably our most talented player because he has it out for his family
@@JPFarley99 This is why the US will never win anything in men's soccer. Reyna is a good player, but he's not a great player, barely a good player. I've watched every Dortmund game for the last 5 years, I know. You all deserve each other. May the USMNT continue to wallow in mediocrity.
@@friendlybane he’s better than Jordan Morris but yeah it’s not personal. If the usmnt is mediocre it has more to do with appointing mediocre coaches like Greg Berhalter who selected mediocre 3rd rate mls players like Jordan Morris who don’t belong at the World Cup in the place of Borussia Dortmund players. Is this a symptom of a wider issue in the US soccer team? Have they hovered over every coach throughout his career? Is the team that ends up at tournaments representative of the talent that is out there or is it a product of influential parents.

Never much cared for Ale's commentary, so not surprised reading these comments.
Not a good look at all! Berhalter will lose his position which will justify the Reynas doing this.
Gio Reyna doesn’t come off looking great in this. As Ale said, he probably is the most talented player on the US team; for him to not get his position nailed down isn’t a great look, and to hear that poor work habits played a part doesn’t bode well for him as well. At best, it shows a need to mature and grow up; at worst, it shows a real lack of professionalism.
The whiny overbearing parents win 🙄
100% with Steve here. I don't think Gia should be punished, trust me, the USMNT players will make him squirm for Gia allowing his parents treat him like he's 8. Claudio Reyna should lose all of his job with Austin FC (he's currently in an advisory role). Berhalter was probably not the right guy to go forward with but he's gonna have a heck of a legal case against the Reynas if he doesn't get offered the job again.
Causing someone to not get a job offer because of you saying something about them in the US, depending on where you bring forward the case, can make whomever made that mistake responsible for paying the job's salary for x years and 5x Damages when you go up to a Labor Board Tribunal. It's why former employers are technically only allowed to confirm someone's employment and job title as a job reference.
The Reynas don't seem like very nice people.
Try staying off social media

Manager can talk about players in public. Parents who have closeness to power cannot go and sabbotage the manager for that… This Gio is referred to as some sort of Pele or Messi. Ordinary player whose career is now marred by this absurd behavior.
Greg can still be the coach and he and Gio can show the "adult" Reyna's how you move forward and get better. To be in Gio's shoes would not be fun, parents like that are disgusting.
So much drama over one player, if I were the US Soccer Team, I would never play this guy again, not worth the drama at all.
His parents are doing all this not Gio🤨🤨
Complete embarrassing circus. As usual with the US soccer federation
Ale, you made baseless points today.

A parent should never come in and make a problem for the coach but at the same time like Ale said Reyna is arguably the first or second best in the squad and the fact you aren’t playing that talented of a player in the biggest of tournaments just hurts ur team’s and nation’s chances.
Fire Gregg, USA needs gio reyna!!
Claudio Reyna and his wife are evil. I can’t put into words how much I detest those people Gio Reyna needs to go away from this team, and not return. He’s toxic.
Moreno is 100% wrong!! Berhalter made a bonehead move by speaking about the behavior & attitude of a player during training. That's a team issue and keep it in the locker room.
The Reynas are GARBAGE!! They were behind some sort of plot that was long in the making. GIO had NOTHING to do with this.
BAN THE REYNA'S FROM ALL FUTURE USMNT GAMES!!!
This is some Mickey Mouse stuff.
KAREN!
USSF needs to keep MLS political influence OUT and play their BEST PLAYERS. Cut the "we Hope we can compete" and act like you've been there before
I don’t care about the history. Claudio should be fined and fired from his MLS team. Greg can’t come back as US coach. US needs a clean sheet. Let’s see if Reyna can perform without the helicopter parenting and soccer mom BS.
GGG doesn't deserve another world cup cycle. Only a coach that wins or reaches semis should get another chance. USA got destroyed by the Dutch and GGG was clearly out classed and out of his depth. The distractions he was directly linked to took focus away from the team and clearly he had bias towards gio. The bias clouded his judgment and ultimately hurt the team. He needs to step down because no matter how you slice it he looks bad.

@digontozahid You are clearly upset that England's midfield got bossed and out played by the US MMA and now you're trying to gaslight everyone. You're salty because it didn't "come home" and it probably never will again. England lack the killer instinct, otherwise Kane would have scored that pk.. but he didn't. Because England's football is and has been lacking for a long time now.
I'll agree with you on Berhalter shouldn't be coach anymore and I do believe there was some bias there for Gio not playing. I don't agree that his performance as coach contributes to that and his dismissal should be more under the idea his position is no longer tenable given the circumstances that has now been created. There is just no way he would be able to manage the team again given this media circus and conflict of interests.
That said I think you are misplaced on the rest of it quite a bit. The USA national team didn't get destroyed by the Dutch. By the numbers USA actually had a pretty good showing against them and the reality is the Dutch made the most of their chances while the USA didn't. The team that loses while having more shots in general along with more shots on goal, higher possession , better passing accuracy , less fouls, more set pieces, etc... isn't a destruction like the score line suggests. One team took their chances the other didn't pretty good game overall. I'd say the USA actually performed right at expectation and while they lost to a pretty pedestrian Dutch side they at least looked the better of the two sides. To that degree you are characterizing it completely backwards as if you didn't really watch the game or don't really understand the sport. Your reaction should be one of satisfaction with the result and hope for the future if you're a genuine fan.
The reality this situation points to though is that MLS and the US Federation needs an overhaul in general. To many bad apples run the show and are making decisions that don't benefit the league as a whole. People's expectations of the US National team is far too high for the talent it currently generates where even a good result isn't good enough thus lending to the idea the system is failing. MLS while better now is still a retirement home for the European elite looking to cash in and live glamorously. The best talent here has to go abroad in Europe to be competitive. US soccer in general is defunct. It is only really good enough to bother with for most of the nation when no other major sporting event is on. This whole debacle doesn't help matters.
TL;DR Fix the system, stop blaming it on the coaches, and set reasonable expectations/goals of US soccer as a whole.
Reyna and Berhalter deserve each other
As fans, we all wondered why Gio was not included since he is clearly the most talented #10 on the US squad. But at the end of the day, the coach makes the decisions and should never accept petulant behavior from a player least of all from parents at this level.

I think Berhalter did a good job. They lost to a very good Dutch team, who gave Argentina a lot of problems, they had to beat them in penalty kicks. Furthermore, if the US team had players in the best leagues in Europe, well, so did the Dutch. And the US team desn't have a quality striker, and the Dutch have three, and they play for Atletico de Madrid, Manchester United, and Liverpool. And another thing, what let the US team down in the game against the Dutch, apart fron le lack of a good striker, was the defense.
