We just upgraded to a travel trailer from a pop up in September 2022. We had two trips planned and paid for with the last being Canada’s Thanksgiving weekend. Hurricane Fiona decimated our area and both of our trips were cancelled due to damage to the parks. We had two nights that went down to 28 in the pop up. Before the pop up we tent camped for years and one trip at the end of September we woke up to the tents covered in snow. Can’t wait for our adventures in our tt

Morning from Northern Minnesota 🇺🇸& Fort Frances Canada 🇨🇦 Have you heard of wrapping all your pipes with Pool noodles & zip ties. When we got our Toy hauler my husband grabbed all my noodle’s and winterized the whole under-cage pipes with colorful noodles. At first I was livid (he used my noodle’s) but it worked, once and done. Just left it there.
EZ snaps and contact billboard advertisers you can pick up the used billboard vinyl for crazy cheap (compared to actual skirting companies) and use the EZ snaps to make your own heavy duty skirting. You flip the billboard material so it's a solid black material. Stay warm and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Cheers to 2021!
Oh awesome!! I never thought of doing this! How much would you say the EZ snaps cost?? Or how much would the entire purchase cost roughly? Hope you guys have a good New Year as well!!
@@HappilyEverHanks $112 for 100 of the 3m ez snaps and then what ever you price you can negotiate for old billboards.. we met a lady that paid $20 for a old billboard so for roughly $130 she had it skirted and it looked/felt no different than professional skirting. We were shocked.
On the skirting they coast a lot.they go by the foot.to give you an idea is I have a 44ft 5th wheel toyhuller to have some one come out an do it we are looking at $8000. That is way to much for me.so we did some research on how to do Vinyl skirting.so we are going to do it our self.so we got 36 yards of marine grade Vinyl. That will do the hole trailer.an that ran us just over $300 with shipping.the roll comes I think 52" wide an we are going cut that in half.we are going to mount awning track to the bottom of the trailer.we got a 120ft of bead.an that ran us just over $100.still working on getting All the track.we are going use sand bags To hold the bottom in place.an we are going to use Velcro on the corners an Seems.all that is left is the sewing An we have a friend that will do it for us. So for this project we are looking round $1200 It could be more or little less. Be safe in your travels.
Hey Michael! WOW that is a lot more than we were planning for, it sounds like the skirting adds up quickly in cost depending on the size of your rig. That's a great idea you came up with on buying the supplies yourself and doing all the work. It would be great to hear from you again with an update! I'm curious as to how much all the vinyl adds in weight as well (such as if you took it along with you in your travels). Best of luck to you guys in your new project 😃We hope we can hear from you again soon, cheers! - Kyle and Renee
@@HappilyEverHanks The roll weight about 60 pounds.so I am thinking right around 100 pounds more or less. An as for the sand bags.we are going to use Plastic bags that way we can just put them in trash when we move.we are going to make panels 8ft long.that will make it easier to set up an brake down. An we are going to tool box on the truck for storage.be safe in your travels
@@michaelforget1823 That sounds like a solid plan you guys have. We are eager to hear what you guys think of the final product once it's complete. Thank you for sharing this with us Michael, safe travels to you and your family! Cheers! - Kyle and Renee

Netflix, to skirting, to boiloe... boiling.... boiloh.... yeah that stuff. You guys are doing good! Your almost ready for a Northeastern Michigan Winter...lol
We are working up to those Michigan winters 🥶 this propane can be expensive after awhile! Thinking about maybe buying a 100 lb propane tank, but not sure if it is cost effective compared to filling out 30 lb propane tanks
@@HappilyEverHanks the bigger tank definitely gives you a longer span between fill ups. However manhandling those buggers is another thing. Then you’d need to decide if it travels with you... where to store it for the haul to meet DOT regulations. I have heard of someone making a kit where they can mount bigger a tanks to the frame. But then that’s where they stay and you have to haul the rig to the fill station to get those filled.
@@MrNicmousseau hmm 🤔 interesting. Yeah that is always a concern with remaining in DOT regulations. I’m honestly not even sure what those regulations are 🤷♂️ I guess they vary state to state??
@@HappilyEverHanks yeah each state has their specifics but federal DOT is the base and the state may have additional beyond that. Too bad compressed natural gas wasn’t more available. It would definitely be a saver for the pocket book. There are some dispensary’s because they make kits so vehicles can run on. They make kits for propane too. Add a little propane injection system to your truck and you’ll spend more on tires than you do oil changes. lol The article below is kinda interesting. www.americanfarriers.com/articles/465-proper-transportation-of-fuels?v=preview

Please tell me if it's appropriate to have permanent skirting on a destination trailer and if so would it be wise to put it on before you built a deck? I know that you move around from place to place so what did you do with your skirting once you got on the road? I enjoyed this video and I'd never heard of Bagna Cauda so I learned something new. @@HappilyEverHanks Yeah - I woke up one morning and my Shelty was curled around what I thought was a white stuffed teddy-bear. I was wrong..... Scared the living h*** out of me! Wow that’s amazing, oh my goodness that must have been quite the site to see. This is the first time I have ever heard of something like this happening 😱
Hey Byron!! So glad to hear from you, had some great times with y’all in Oroville. Hopefully our paths cross again soon!! Stay safe out there brother - Kyle and Renee
I started RVing in March and got away with not skirting by completely disconnecting and bundling up for the last bad storm (my tanks are all above floor level) but I was thinking about buying the "real" skirting for the coming winter-your solution seems much better!
Yes! Same here Heidi! We finally skirted our rig and WOW what a difference it made. I wish we had done it sooner, but it was a learning experience for sure lol What kind of RV do you currently own? 😃
You guys crack me up! So much fun! The foil backed skirting is a great idea because radiant ultraviolet heat is actually in the light spectrum and is therefore able to be reflected via foil (mirror) back under the camper rather than being lost to the environment. I can about guarantee you won’t freeze up again with that stuff. 👍 Another old Michigan mobile home trick is to cut a small heat register vent size hole in a discreet location such as in a cabinet or closet that passes into the vacant space beneath the floor. When it’s cold, a small fan blowing down the hole keeps the underbelly above freezing.
Great point with the radiant heat retention! We definitely have noticed a HUGE difference. Still going through propane somewhat quickly, but far less after doing the skirting. Had no idea that ultraviolet heat is on the light spectrum 🧐That's a really nice trick! I am going to want to do this soon! It probably really helps to distribute the heat and make the most out of what you are spitting out of the heater
RVs have very little wall and roof insulation. R5 to R10 at the most I’d suspect. They really aren’t designed to retain heat well unfortunately. We did enjoy the comedic editing. Denise was laughing at you guys too. 😁 I’m really looking forward to the travel/exploring videos to come. Adventures are my favorite!
Yeah unfortunately they really aren’t super reliable with the R value of the insulation. They try their best I guess lol Glad to hear it!! I know, same here.. I really like the adventure videos as well. It’s nice to take advantage of this time to practice talking to the camera though and get more acquainted with vlogging. A big adventure that I have wanted to do is go on the airboats down in the Everglades!! How sweet would that be!? 😱
Reflectix is da bomb yo! 💣 We did winter in western WA in 2018. Didn’t do the wrap around the trailer. We didn’t die but we did run through the propane super fast when a January storm rolled through ❄️

Question about the professionally installed skirting, how much space does it take up when stored and where do you store it. I full time rv with wife and 3 kids.
I know folks have to go where the work is but I have never understood fulltime RVing in the freezing cold. I could not do winter without a cozy fireplace.

What brand of foil tape do you use? And how easy is it to remove, does it leave and residue? Im concerned about taping anything to the outside of a new 5th wheel and causing damage to the seal.
Hey Kelly! We honestly just bought some foil tape from a local ACE Hardware. It did leave some residue that can be an annoyance to get off after the winter months. I used a bunch of Goo Gone and elbow grease to remove the residue from the RV. Are you guys going to be winter RV living? ok guys question on the pex tubing for the water lines, if these freeze, is there any chance of cracking? like copper waterline. If this has been asked, Sorry
Hey Mark! I think pex is less likely to have cracking due to freezing. However, the rigid plastic joints that connect to the pex are susceptible to cracking (due to less resistance with flexibility and such). Great to hear from you, keep these great comments coming :)
Definitely has been challenging!! We finally upgraded to a 100 lb propane tank today :) thank you so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful New Year ❤️ - Renee and Kyle
@@HappilyEverHanks We only have a 5 lb.. Luckily we've only had to heat just a couple times during the day. But nights been down in the teens so 5 lbs only lasts us about 52 hours.
@@Colquhouns 52 hours is a decent amount of time. We were kicking our 30 lb propane tanks in about the same time. It takes a lot to heat up the fifth wheel for sure. I remember when we had our travel trailer (27 foot) it didn't take nearly as much propane!
Just watching this today. We priced RV skirting for ours, try $2500, to be installed. This year, we are adding heat pads to our tanks. We went on on board water every time it dropped near freezing. Only had the pipes freeze one time.
Oh my goodness! That is a lot...whew! Nice move on the heat pads near the tanks, I bet that makes a TON of difference 😃 Thank you so much for sharing Elizabeth!

Nice!! That’s a great price and it could be a cool billboard 😆

Green Sugar cane Syrup. Yummy
On the skirting they coast a lot.they go by the foot.to give you an idea is I have a
44ft 5th wheel toyhuller to have some one come out an do it we are looking at
$8000. That is way to much for me.so we did some research on how to do
Vinyl skirting.so we are going to do it our self.so we got 36 yards of marine grade
Vinyl. That will do the hole trailer.an that ran us just over $300 with shipping.the roll comes I think 52" wide an we are going cut that in half.we are going to mount awning track to the bottom of the trailer.we got a 120ft of bead.an that ran us just over $100.still working on getting
All the track.we are going use sand bags
To hold the bottom in place.an we are going to use Velcro on the corners an
Seems.all that is left is the sewing
An we have a friend that will do it for us.
So for this project we are looking round
$1200 It could be more or little less.
An as for the sand bags.we are going to use
Plastic bags that way we can just put them in trash when we move.we are going to make panels 8ft long.that will make it easier to set up an brake down.

Lots and lots going on in this video 😄👋🏼 thank you for stopping by 🙂
@@HappilyEverHanks the bigger tank definitely gives you a longer span between fill ups.
Add a little propane injection system to your truck and you’ll spend more on tires than you do oil changes. lol

We should do the skirting we have our camper stationary for several months in the winter. We had a few nights that got down in the teens lucky nothing froze.

Please tell me if it's appropriate to have permanent skirting on a destination trailer and if so would it be wise to put it on before you built a deck? I started RVing in March and got away with not skirting by completely disconnecting and bundling up for the last bad storm (my tanks are all above floor level) but I was thinking about buying the "real" skirting for the coming winter-your solution seems much better!
Yes! Same here Heidi! We finally skirted our rig and WOW what a difference it made. I wish we had done it sooner, but it was a learning experience for sure lol
What kind of RV do you currently own? 😃
@@HappilyEverHanks a class A: 1999 National Sea View
😂Did you like this style?? Were the zoom in transitions overbearing or did you enjoy this type of humor and laid back vlog??
They try their best I guess lol
Glad to hear it!!

What brand of foil tape do you use? And how easy is it to remove, does it leave and residue? Im concerned about taping anything to the outside of a new 5th wheel and causing damage to the seal.
Hey Kelly! We honestly just bought some foil tape from a local ACE Hardware. It did leave some residue that can be an annoyance to get off after the winter months. ok guys question on the pex tubing for the water lines, if these freeze, is there any chance of cracking? like copper waterline. If this has been asked, Sorry
Hey Mark! I think pex is less likely to have cracking due to freezing. However, the rigid plastic joints that connect to the pex are susceptible to cracking (due to less resistance with flexibility and such). Great to hear from you, keep these great comments coming :)

I have a confession… I couldn’t give a 🐀🐀 ass about travel nursing, 😂, however the RVing aspect of your life’s is fascinating! I was born and raised near Lancaster PA, and I know that winters there are cold and dismal. You guys are very creative, and I’m sure you’ll make the most of it! 😎
All good, we totally understand 😄We are mostly about RV living anyways, so you are in the right place! Been to Lancaster a bunch! Definitely, cold and dismal hit the nail on the head LOL Thank you so much for stopping by. Guessing you are no longer living in Pennsylvania?? - Kyle and Renee
