Peter and Gamora are one of my favorite MCU couples because they flirt but they also get close because they have similarities, they are orphans and have bad dads (Ego and Thanos) whom they don't consider their real dads. They both have bad pasts where Peter was a womanizer and thief who didn't care about anyone, and Gamora killed many people because she was raised to. So it makes more sense they would argue but in the end they care about each other. Peter risked his life to save Gamora and she risked hers by helping him with the Infinity Stone. In Vol. 2 she was willing to go back to save Peter and fight a Celestial armed with just a gun. Additionally, Gamora helps Peter mature and learn to become responsible and look out for others. In the meantime Peter helps Gamora relax and have fun when she never got to do that. But they also have separate arcs where Peter gives up PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS and learns who his real dad is, and Gamora learns to open up emotionally through her scenes with Nebula. Peter and Gamora's friendship and roles as Guardians always comes first while their relationship develops slowly like you said. I am glad James Gunn decided to scrap the kiss scenes he originally planned for them and decided to focus on other ways to bring them together. That hug is more meaningful than a kiss - it shows development that Quill stops pushing her to say they have an unspoken thing and she says it - and it will make it sweeter when we do see them together (hopefully) as a couple in the future movies.
I think that the characters laugh at their own jokes too much, but this scene is so good. It perfectly sets up Drax and Mantis as characters and friends.

Out of all the scenes in the whole movie, this scene was the best. At first Mantis is clam and quiet and then she's laughing out loud with Drax. I thought Manits was going to fight during the final battle, but instead she gets knocked out by a flying rock. I never paid to the doorway conversation. Mantis is beautiful and she has a cute laugh. Hopefully she'll get to do some fighting in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 movie.
