great video mate ..30 years ago I was a afull time eel fisher.... brings back lots of good memorys ...now its band in Scotland as far as I know ???!!!!
My grandmother would fry 1 for Christmas eve (an Italian thing). What wasnt finished then, shed pickle basically italian dressing in a jar - I was surprised at how very good it was. We have a local in Bodega bay, Ca. who sets big olive barrels (the plastic one) he modified them as traps. He drops em for eel which he sells to Japan. Hes made a living out of it.
yes buddy they are for food. most are smoked and sent to the UK, they go for around 30 dollars a pound there. glad you found my videos hope you enjoy them.
Ken Karnes yes try some eels some day buddy. if your are ever in CANADA my way, look me up I have a place here at my house where you can stay. my doors are all ways open bro.
Ken ! Eel Taste Awesome..!! Mid sized ones taste better than larger ones which have less flavor and are a bit tough...Just gut em... Toss in Flour...Fry in Butter on pan or such....They taste awesome...!!!! I am originally form Ireland but live in the US now for 25 years. Just moved To Cape Cod MA. Caught many Eels in Ireland in the Rivers and lakes... Caught a few here last summer in the Seawater pond open to the Sea. Tasted good but not quite as good as I remember in Ireland but maybe my taste buds are just being nostalgic or maybe Saltwater eels don't taste as good. Not sure as i never tasted any freshwater eels in the US. But you really should try them man !! Good Luck !!!!
im from new brunswick canada. me buddy just started fishing eels and i was skimmin through these here videos and seen that you use the same nets.. was wondering if you can give me any good or basic tips to trap some eels?
all was set the end of my leaders at the edge of the sand and seaweed, run your net out from the seaweed... fish points,, look for points off land to set off... fish the edge of channels... its all trial and error buddy.. you never stop leaning.... think like a eel and have good nets
Am from India and in the seafood business. There's plenty of eels all over the waters here but no one has commercially fished them. I've been trying to fish them with small traps with no luck. Would you have any ideas that I should try? Thanks pal.
I think the best way to catch eels would be with a Fyke net like I use ... they use these nets all over the world and they work great ,, native's have been using this style of nets for 100's of years.. if you watch my channel I have some videos of the fyke net.. the work great in about 6 feet of water or less ... I know a place where you could get some nets shipped to you,, if you would like to try some .. they cost about 200 dollars US funds ... a fyke net can hold about 150 pounds of eels,, I have seen some pretty big fishing with this style of net before ... they also have eel pods for sale at this fishing gear store ..
Thanks buddy. If I heard right, you mentioned an Oyster farm. So does that mean you're fishing in the river mouth? Duke nets are available for much less in China and elsewhere. I'll check them out. Are you on any of the chat apps? It's easier to communicate. I use Whatsapp and Viber. Cheers Rob
What's the status of eel fishing these days. I'm getting confusing information. I know they got some record prices in years gone by but how are they holding up there?
we got 3 bucks a pound all season long last fall. more buyers here on the island last fall made it good for the price. 2 years ago we got 1.65 a pound, cant make much money at that time you pay for your man and gas. the more buyers you got to buy your fish means more money.
we cant fish glass eels here in Canada, should not be fishing them baby eels any where. if they keep fishing them baby eels down there in the USA our fishery will come to a end. they fish lobster year around we fish 2 months,,, they fish as many blue fin tuna as they like we fish and keep 1 fish a year.. they fish baby eels we throw back eels under 25 inch.. I don't like how they do things down there if you get my drift..
Oh I get your drift Buddy. So basically we (Canadians) are taking the issues facing All of us seriously and doin something about it while our neighbours aren't doing a dam thing except to continue to exploit a natural resource that in point of fact belongs to No One. I think there 2 states that continue their assault on the glass eels; Mass. & North Carolina. The way I see it their government has to step in and shut it down. The guys doing the fishing are probably just regular joes trying to feed their families. And with Trump on course to make America great again, he'll probably try to expand the fishing in the area. He doesn't believe in climate change and he's working on putting Coal miners back to work. Brother we have some very uncertain days ahead.
I hope you make more buddy! Great stuff!
Love the videos keep up the good work guys...teach our young now!!

Hey Robbie. I would love to fish for eels. How do we get an eel license here in Canada? Is it hard to get?
Some nice one's there!
there was some real big ones today Rodney. thanks for watching.
Hi Robbie. Good video. What bait do you use for the eels?
Cheers
we don't need to use bait because the eels hit the leader of the net and swim along into the net .. where are you from buddy ??
