i grew up with the Defeos .i lived up the block from them when i was a kid we use to play in the boat house out back by the canal. the two younger kids i grew up with we use to run around the house and yard and play hide n go seek .i remember the day of the killings Amityville police had the whole block.blocked off .the older son use to be a druggy.i remember he wasnt really social. after he killed his family with a shot gun the police found him in the neighborhood bar up on Montauk hwy in AMITYVILLE. Where they arrested him on murder charges, he took PCP when he killed his family he thought they were all demons..i been in this house when i was friends with the Defeo family. and i never felt any demonic beings. the Lutz family made up that story of demons in the house.the real reason is because they lost there lease on the house payment and Mr Lutz was a gambler so he spent the money. so they made up this story because they knew of the Defeo murders. which they sold there story to movie producers..that's the real story don't believe this shit there telling you all. i remember the front sign in the yard which said .HIGH HOPES . which is gone now the classic photo of the house really is the side of the house facing the street.....

I'm familiar with it's reputation, seen the movies, read about it. Unless you've had first hand "close encounters" of the paranormal kind, I find it hard to believe that it's really haunted by restless spirits. In my opinion, it suffers from a bad rep because of the murders; if you "expect" a place to be "haunted", your imagination will accommodate you, eventually.
If I had the $$$ I'd buy it and turn it into a Bed'n Breakfast, or what the British call a Gracious Inn. It would do well as a tourist attraction.
But don't misunderstand, it grieves me that murders took place in that 🏠 house. I would set up a memorial chapel there in memory of the "murdered" family, and perhaps set it up in such a way that people can come and mourn the loss of loved ones, victims of murder, suicide, etc.

Well they did that from the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' house form the original movie (even though this was just a film set). It is questionable why a family would up and bolt from the property after less than a month if the intention was about creating a tale that would sell. As a young family, it was a home that had been priced as it had because of what occurred. It would have been an opportunity to be in a great neighbourhood in a large home at the same time lifting themselves up socially and economically.
Attempting to suggest it had been for the sake of books and movies is likely to try and remove the stigma.

Its funny how the house is back up for sale once again. The owners say it's because of on lookers . Yet they knew that was going to take place due to its history and having had been told that upon buying it. Now their not able to take the on lookers any more ? I find that questionable . In fact it's a good story to tell so they can sell it and get their money back out of it. Otherwise that's not going to happen. Ok for you none believers . Go buy the house then . Just don't have children in case you find your wrong just to be safe for their sake . Dont place them in danger because YOU don't believe. That house never keeps an owner and it always comes back up for sell. Now there's has to be a good reason for that in and of itself. There's far more to the story then meets the eye here , far more . How does getting rid it and building a new one do any good since it's the ground the house was built and sits on ? Being the basement is just under the house itself were the evil is known to be. Called the gate way to hell. None believers , may I ask you something here please . If any of you do buy this place , and strange things started to happen that you are not one you know could explain . What would you do then ? There's things in this world that happens all the time that can not be explained . And since the writer of this story gave it a so called bad rap. Do you see him buying it , NO ! Are even going back into it ? NO ! And how many years now has it been this story of his has been being told ? And Just Now he's coming out that is wasn't ture ? A bit odd don't you think ? No something is wrong here , very wrong. Just think about it all . Something funny is going on here . As for the paranormal , yes I do believe in it in fact . I'm 62 and just a normal as the rest of you. Sorry nothing is at all wrong with me , not a thing . My mind is sharp , I am just a believer in the paranormal that's all.

People have also said that George Lutz had an interest in the occult & owned a lot of book's on the subject in their home, and believe he may have carelessly woke up those evil spirit's in that house messing around w/ black magic of some kind!

I would not live in this house even if you gave it to me! While I am not worried so much about its sinister past, the fact that spectators, film crews, and religious freaks always visit it is what's really scary. I may get anything from Satan worshipers on Halloween to the Westboro Baptist Church on Easter Sunday! Even the residents of Amityville are sick and tired of these spectators and want them to stay away. This landmark house is far too infamous to be safe to live in now. So you couldn't even PAY ME to live in this house! Unless I was an armed security guard who was licensed to "defend my castle by any means necessary".

And most likely to the people before that as well. Found it interesting that Mrs. Lutz died of emphazema and got much older looking like they had said she looked for a bit while in the house. And Mr. Lutz died of heart attack. It was said in one vid that some of the people in that house investigating died of heart attacks later on. All creepy for sure.

One important missing fact is that I believe it was reported that the Lutz family had contact with the DeFeo lawyer prior to his trial. The story was made up to not only make money off the story but also assist in the legal defense of DeFeo...that the house was possessed. I saw a recent documentary that puts premeditation on the purchase of the house. Supposedly the Lutz family really could not have afforded such a house but they bought it realizing it would be a short term stay.
