I'm obsessed with this video. I've been skiing my whole life and I started competing when I was 12. I have loved 80's ski fashion and with the rise of tipsy elves snowsuits, I feel like people are kind of going back to that. I've also seen an evolution in alpine race suits and those babies cost a pretty penny (usually $500 and up). I wish the sport was more accessible and diverse because up until Andre Horton in 2001 there were no POC icons to look up to.
Adorable! I understand this video! First time in a while. After the last few videos I wanted to give my own fashion advice to Nexters but Dion did it for me with this vid. Color. That's all you need if you live up north. That is what ski fashion did. Take a satellite eye view of humanity: Our skin tone ranges from pale to ebony, our hair color: orange, yellow, brown, black; eyes, those little jewels: green, blue, brown. That is a very limited palette. So you're going to wear a white tank top over jeans? That is a Fail! Imo. Dion, you did an excellent job researching this. The historical footage is hilarious. Ski fashion dovetailed with the Golden Age of Air Travel. Don't some of the women and outfits of the time look like "stewardesses" as they were then called? Dion's mom wore her sherbet ski onesie to a winter college football game! It absolutely worked but you don't have to bleed ski outfits into everyday wear. You do need color. A million thumbs up to this bid. Bravo

I was on a ski and snowboarding competition team and every year they had an 80s day where all the kids wore their parents’ old neon ski outfits, it was the best theme day we had besides silly hat day! It’s interesting that the 80s is still such a huge part of ski culture

My favorite fashion era of all time are the 60s, so I would dress like that , If I ever go skiing. But I definitely would skip the Aprés Ski Party, I‘m from Germany and the music is a true NIGHTMARE. Not even alcohol would make me listen to that crap 😅
Great video ! Don't discount the 70's. That was when freestyle or 'Hot Dog' skiing really took off. Skiing was extremely popular in the 70's. The fashion was not as vibrant for sure as the 80's but, we had very stylish and more elegant gear if I recall. That was when 'Breck' was just getting started. and you still just had Old Vail Village, and Lion's Head was being built here in Colorado. If I recall, a lift ticket at Vail was $9.00 ! Those were the days ! Now you have to sell your house to ski at Aspen or Vail ! The vibe of Aspen was still very laid-back and almost affordable. I would give anything to go back to those wonderful times. There is nothing better than the skiing lifestyle !

heyy! all love- but theres a lot of misinformation in this video haha. i know ur probably just not familiar with ski stuff but it has been around as a "hobby" for hundreds of years lmfao. it didnt get big in the 80's. lots of information online about it and the fashion! early colorado 1880's ski fashion jncluded norweigan snowshoes and ski lift blankets were also all the rage after the first one was opened in aspen. nice video just not accurate on anything but pictures
