I'm shocked and mildly disgusted at how efficiently GR completed this mission.
Go back and do it again but with large amounts of friendly fire and mid-air collisions, like God intended a GR mission to be.

I was apart of the early missions hunting yellow cake and manpads - the future ambassador had nuts swinging to the floor; bc he believed he was the Mayor of Bengazi. He was wrong. FYI I never watched movie but that Posting and one other posting in the world knew very well there was zero support and zero Medvac; made clear during your 1st day on ground.I served in both posting - the other post was simultaneously attacked. MEDVAC was also not approved. Good day - I enjoy the simulations.

The people on the ground did about as much (if not more) than anyone had any right to expect. What makes it even more frustrating is that Ambassador Stevens probably died from smoke inhalation. Had they moved position earlier they'd likely have escaped as the attackers didn't even seem to realise who he (Stevens) was when they found him unconscious later.

I remember this. I had just gotten back into EvE Online 8 or 10 months before this and had a toon in a corp allied with the GoonWaffe. One of the people who died in this attack known in game as "vile_rat" was a higher-up in the leadership of the Goons.
When it came out that he was one of those who died, we had a funeral procession around New Eden in memory of him which involved thousands if not tens of thousands of players across thousands of star systems. I had pretty much gotten burned out on the game again, but I logged in once more to participate.
I don't think I had any convos with "VR" personally, but from what I've read after the fact he was a player who had a real life impact on shaping EvE Online both before and after his death.

    • @WyvernFalken

Yes I remember hearing one of them who died was Vile_rat. Thought he was part of Test though. Either way, that's actually one of the first ways I learned about the Benghazi attack. He was posting about how bad it was getting on the ground then I see it on the news. Completely preventable loss of life.

    • @HAL_9001

I totally agree about the preventability of the attack. The people at the embassy were saying weeks ahead that something was up. After the fact, it came out that some had specifically pointed to 9/11 as high-risk, IIRC.

Wonderful show, but a couple of tactical grumbles if you don't mind.
    1. You're not shooting King Kong on the skyscraper, so you don't need to get up close and personal for the cameras. Your weapons have a very long range, and the additional spread from distance will help your target coverage.
    2. Granted, you said you hadn't done this before and it showed. I saw at least three times you nearly flew through another aircraft's weapon stream. Oopsie! Practice longer range orbits so you have spacing and don't need 60 degree attack angles. Stall = dead at those low altitudes.
Enjoyed it! Glad you had fun.

Hey Cap, someone has prob already told you, but a good method for reciprocal headings is “plus two, minus two”, or vice versa. ie heading 090, if you add 2 to the first digit and subtract 2 from the second digit, voila…270.

In real life an AC-130 would just fire a few shells behind the insurgents and it would kill a huge number of them. The insurgents would likely withdraw fairly quickly.

Most battles in history have had one side rout after taking more than 10% casualties (especially if they happen quickly). The morale shock can be devastating (especially for troops that have never seen combat before).

im reading 13 hours right now and the offical word was a lack of mid air refueling for the f16's kept them on the ground. truth is that the diplomatic outpost should have been closed and the cia annex shouldve been disguised better if they were going to keep doing their thing.

Unlike the simulation, the compound is in urbanized area, an airstrike would caused to too much collateral damage and maybe been too late. It is seems to me that whole endeavor was poorly planned. It doesn't make sense to place a high profile State Department official in a war zone with inadequate security. Stevens should have resigned instead on going to Benghazi with that plan.

A good use of the AC-130 mod would be in a Vietnam scenario with defense of a firebase.
Why? Well back then they had the AC-47, a DC-3 with Miniguns that were operated in this fashion that you are currently doing in this mission, basically the pilot flying orbits and aiming over his left shoulder.
No Howitzers or heavy autocannons present, but that will be the benefit for GR to have :D

  • @TYKUHN2
    @TYKUHN2 2 роки тому +1

Now I want to try this in ArmA 3 where the AC-130 is properly implemented (aimable weapons, FLIR, and all.) It even has autopilot that will orbit for you so you can use the weapons in single player.
