God damn, and people argue the qaultiy of games hasn't changed since then. Mostly all of these games are great and that's within one year. These days you're lucky to get maybe a few decent games a year.
...But you forgot to put V.I.P on that list..
Like any of these or not, these were some HUGE staples in game history. Whether they were definitive iterations of their franchise, or if they were the start of a new & successful series, these excerpts are incredibly noteworthy.
***** Almost without exception, everyone's favorite Final Fantasy will be their first Final Fantasy, and from that every person develops pre-biases and expectations for what Final Fantasy SHOULD be. Not every fan of Final Fantasy likes *every* FF game. FFIX was nonetheless a core, numbered, landmark title that I have seen be adored time and again by plenty of people across the interwebs and in real life. The return to high fantasy and a bit more whimsy and a stylized, exaggerated cartoony aesthetic over the Super Amazing Realistic Squaresoft Graphics™ of the previous 2 (3, even) core titles was a welcome change to many.
Besides, the release of every core, numbered Final Fantasy game is a landmark calendar event, I would say on just about the same level as a new console Zelda or Metal Gear Solid.
***** Um. I answered that in several ways. _All_ Final Fantasy games are *good*. No one can argue with their quality, save for perhaps some of the direct sequels. But even those are by no means poorly made. Every single FF game is well-loved by some number of any combination of people with all different reasons for it. And it's Final Fantasy, so it's going to be wildly popular worldwide, to some degree at least. And for this game in particular, 5.30 million units shipped is no laughing matter, by any means.
The combination of all the things I just said and said the first time are ALL things that make it so significant. My individual opinion on its quality as a standalone title, or as in comparison to other Final Fantasies, if that's what you're looking for, is completely moot.

Dean Slucey Yeah, (IMHO) Danny isn't as funny unscripted, but as shown in NSP videos he is as funny a comedian as the others. It just seems that he's the kind of person who has trouble composing sentences on the spot, and is better left to careful, trial and error... Jon on the other hand makes a WONDERFUL support character to Arin, because (IMHO) Jon seems less to rely more on observation than composition, and is better at adding onto things, than actually starting them. But truly i agree that all three are comical geniuses. I think Dan really shines in the Super Mario Galaxy episode "NAILING IT" my personal favorite GameGrumps episode.
