DirtyDollar You can get around it because your sword hitbox is actually pretty big for certain attacks, as seen in the video I linked in my comment, but since when have the Grumps ever been good at figuring stuff out?
Actually, Tattoo is really easy to beat when you know how to do it: you have to spam the normal attack, Tattoo will parry but he will be pushed to the right corner: continue to spam normal attack and he will finally take a hit, after you have to immediatly parry Tattoo's attacks and then you repeat the process. Prodo Man Not so much. It looks like his rose whip is faster than your block. Arin tried ti jump, slash, block and got hit anyway. So no, it's not easy, there are no patterns either (well, at 1st view anyway) There *must* be a way to defeat it but...
Kuonluw the only times arin didn't have time to block is when he got too close because the boss was against the wall. Alot of the times he got hit while attacking even though the boss was far away
First of all, I just finished the latest episode of Parasyte, so your avi pic makes me think you're a cool guy. That first boss DOES seem ridiculous though. Makes me wanna try out the game myself. The game looks awesome, honestly I'd like to see them play it on "very easy" just so we can see the rest of it.
The 4 chord pop song chord progression is actually not Pachalbel's Canon in D. The three first chords are the same but not the rest. The Canon in D chord progression goes D A Bm F#m G D G A and the standard pop progression in the same key would be D A Bm G (the minor version goes Bm G D A, same progression but you start on the Bm). The Canon progression has been ripped off but far less and often with some variation making it slightly different, usually with a different ending.

The cool thing about this boss is that it represents what happens when we get the truly "realistic" boss we always beg for in a game inviroment. When we as consumers ask for realism, it takes a crusader of morals, like X-Kaliber 2097 here, to truly show us the error in our ways. Take this boss. Tattoo. He's a tough guy, he's got green skin, you don't wanna mess with him. So you mess with him. You insult his Tattoo, not only his name, but also his predominant feature, being displayed prominently on his gross green chest, front and center. This man is in a street gang, at the LEAST. And you're what, some random guy jumping around in a lab coat or something? Pf-ft. Please, get real. You're dead, fair and square. Then the Player starts to panic. Surely, he thinks, apathetic little mid, this boss is meant to be beaten. Surely, I am not meant to end here. Yet he is. That is end of his journey - and let it be a lesson. And all you can think about is that spelling error.

AlwaysAmazingSlyWit sure i just need the game the console some form of capture program and internet that doesnt need 3 days to upload a 3 minute video and ull get the video in no time... but do u rly think this is hard? the thing i compare this to is killer instinct for n64 and my god if u played the campaign and got to the last bosses u basically had to die till they LET u win (if u get close to winning they spam their 1 hit combo till they hit u and some of them were not avoidable) cause the combos were ridiculously hard to pull off and the 1 hit combos were like a chain of all ur combos combined so u only got them through sheer button mashing luck... and yeah they knew what u pressed so they always countered perfectly or even compared to soul calibur... i had one for the 360 and in the tower of idk on higher lvls the enemies blocked and countered ur attacks/combos if u got too repetitve so u always needed to split second counter their moves and then chain the counter into an ultra high damage combo and then hope to wait out the clock or smth... again could be just me beeing terrible but im usually a pretty good player... (plat 5 in lol with 1 ranked a month to not drop, eagle playing with supreme/globals in cs go, bf4 average kd of 3-7~ stuff like that) and i dont think a first boss where u have to use ur brain a tiny bit is a bad thing... then again games like kirby and mario where u cannot lose and death has no real meaning are super popular... yet i cant seem to see the fun in just running through levels holding right and jump button :\ call me an elitist but i just wouldnt waste money on a game thats so easy that all i do is just look at the pretty graphics (which according to most ppl are the most important thing) while running through it
Orlov game man if thats an essay for u u arent used to my posts ^^ im german so explaining shit in english takes longer for me i can break the fight down in german in 2-3 sentences but i think it would take u longer to translate em than to read my "essay"^^
According to the one FAQ I looked at: Tattoo has a habit of attacking many times in a row before leaving himself opened. Defend when he is doing this (or power slash if you don't feel like waiting. Then, stab him. Repeat this until he is defeated. You can also corner him and just keep power slashing. Yeah, pretty much 100% BS.
Mortal Kombat didn't come out until 95 though. But the group, Psykosonik, who did the music for X-Kalibur had a few tracks on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack.
Ms. Gyroscope I have never watched this episode until today and when I realized that felt like discovering a sample from your favorite song playing on an antique shop speaker
Holy shit... I haven't seen this game since I was 4 years old at my old daycare... I used to watch the older kids play this before nap time... The nostalgia is unreal
This is 8 years too late but I figured it out for that boss, when he tucks in to use the rose vine attack you can hit him there to interupt it, Arin did it twice but didn't realize it
Just so you guys know, the songs aren't actually taken from Mortal Kombat, although the group that did Mortal Kombat, Psykosonik, was hired by Activision to chiptune their songs into the soundtrack for X-Kaliber. Welcome to My Mind is used for the main theme, levels 3 and 6, the last boss, and the credits, Silicon Jesus (Break the Screen Remix) for level 1, Teknojihad for level 2 and the fight against Raptor, Shock On the Wire for level 4, and Krankphreak for stage 5 and the other boss fights, the Hi Hat version used for the dialogue between the fights. If you like the soundtrack for this game, you really oughta go check out the actual songs, you won't be disappointed.
I actually grew up with this game on the SNES, so it was a real treat to see it featured on the show. It did make me sad that they couldn't get past the first boss, because there are many frustrating levels later on. I really hope you guys revisit this game in Game Grumps versus though with the 2p duel!
Tips for anyone who might attempt to defeat this boss: general tactic: always go for an attack when hes winding up, block immediately after landing a hit, to stop his attack spam use your ranged 'posing' attack from the other side of the screen to make him stop or you'll run out of time strong aerial attack: use it when he's goin right and his back is turned towards you, hit him from the largest distance possible so that you can block if needed, block immediately after landing a hit. (because if he blocks it you're stunned for few frames and he goes for a 'rose attack' punish)
Ok normally I'd talk shit about them failing because they didn't pay attention or attempt to learn the game's mechanics but I have to admit, that boss is pretty ridiculous. It almost makes me wonder if there's some trick you're supposed to do instead of taking him head-on but the game doesn't drop any hints that that might be the case.
I couldn't remember if I had seen this one or not then Danny got to the rose guy and I was like "Oh yeah, I think I remember..." then rose guy started destroying Danny mercilessly and was like "Oh right, this one."

I actually kinda wanna see this as a series xD
why is everyone in the comments complaining about the difficulty?
this game isnt very long if u know what ur doing (from what ive seen)
and yes the first boss seems hard but
just from watching i figured out:
ur wave attack cancels out his slashing so he wont be caught in an infinite loop/ catch u off guard
the jumping slash has a slightly longer range than his slash if u use it perfectly (arin did that a couple times)
the block system works alot like killer instinct where if u just mash 1 button (hit chest level) the bot will block so whenever arin switched from 5 chest stabs to 1 lower stab --> hit
and i think there is a high slash that is like a 90% hit chance but arin doesnt use it often
get in --> chest hits --> high slash --> block
or jumping slash but u have to manage ur distance perfectly
and always cancel out his endless slashing
done...
hard games are good its not like u have 500 buttons and infinite possibilities so just try around till u find something that works (or just watch his patterns and think about it) instead of raging and doing the same shit for 10 minutes straight ^^ (or expecting a boss thats just there to be killed so u can be like yeah im the greatest motherfucker i pressed x 10 times and he died...)
and i fucking SUCK at fighters i get my ass handed to me in every online match so if i can figure it out it isnt rocket science...
Now let's watch you actually try to pull it off.
AlwaysAmazingSlyWit they already have
It's so easy! It only took you an entire fucking essays worth of writing to explain it!
AlwaysAmazingSlyWit
sure i just need the game the console some form of capture program and internet that doesnt need 3 days to upload a 3 minute video and ull get the video in no time...
but do u rly think this is hard?
the thing i compare this to is killer instinct for n64 and my god if u played the campaign and got to the last bosses u basically had to die till they LET u win (if u get close to winning they spam their 1 hit combo till they hit u and some of them were not avoidable) cause the combos were ridiculously hard to pull off and the 1 hit combos were like a chain of all ur combos combined so u only got them through sheer button mashing luck...
and yeah they knew what u pressed so they always countered perfectly
or even compared to soul calibur...
i had one for the 360 and in the tower of idk on higher lvls the enemies blocked and countered ur attacks/combos if u got too repetitve so u always needed to split second counter their moves and then chain the counter into an ultra high damage combo and then hope to wait out the clock or smth...
again could be just me beeing terrible but im usually a pretty good player... (plat 5 in lol with 1 ranked a month to not drop, eagle playing with supreme/globals in cs go, bf4 average kd of 3-7~ stuff like that) and i dont think a first boss where u have to use ur brain a tiny bit is a bad thing...
then again games like kirby and mario where u cannot lose and death has no real meaning are super popular... yet i cant seem to see the fun in just running through levels holding right and jump button :\
call me an elitist but i just wouldnt waste money on a game thats so easy that all i do is just look at the pretty graphics (which according to most ppl are the most important thing) while running through it
Orlov game man
if thats an essay for u u arent used to my posts ^^
im german so explaining shit in english takes longer for me
i can break the fight down in german in 2-3 sentences but i think it would take u longer to translate em than to read my "essay"^^
You gotta touch em real quick and GO!
haley.... joel.... bieber.... .....
Good advice for life there, Adam.
If you don't get a restraining order, than you can land a second hit
Touch.....touch boobs.....
Oh, man, I love this game. I still have my cartridge.
Love dat OST from Psykosonik!
Danny:It's like an "impenetrable" wall of blades.
**jumps into it**
I actually want to see Arin and Dan play more of this, maybe in the 2-Player mode
Who else is watching this on 2097?
I can tell you who isn't
No one because UA-cam will be gone by then.
Stefan Hohnwald that's the spirit
I just abut. This game you rely have to block
Just wait till you get to the next lvl
Mortal Kombat didn't come out until 95 though.
But the group, Psykosonik, who did the music for X-Kalibur had a few tracks on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack.
Well, I now finally know where Balthios' sprite from Charles Barkley's Shut Up and Jam Gaiden came from.
I can just hear Arin as Ryu doing a combo attack- "Bädem Bädem Blaaaahk!"
"What's a hit confirm?" - Aaron Handsun
ITS BALTHIOS FROM BARKELY SHUT UP AND JAM GAIDEN!!!
Ms. Gyroscope I have never watched this episode until today and when I realized that felt like discovering a sample from your favorite song playing on an antique shop speaker
Holy shit... I haven't seen this game since I was 4 years old at my old daycare... I used to watch the older kids play this before nap time... The nostalgia is unreal
wow really great video love the ending
Agreed.
Würfel_ congrats you found the joke
I like the part at 18:00 where Danny said **mumbles quietly**
15 consecutive sword swings, what a beast
"2097 literally 25 years in the future"
- Danny 2k14
That thumbnail though ooh boy this looks like a good episode
New Metal Gear Rising sure looks great!
if you're blind deaf and dumb, sure!
whoops mistook that for metal gear survival.
Tariq Danzig you know you can delete comments
this guy's ability to predict your moves is just insane haha
Trent Reznor, WOOOOOOH!
Now I know the ultimate sword fighting strategy: crab walk forward, swing sword like I'm playing whack-a-mole.
If anyone is reading this in 2097, can you tell me if this game is accurate?
+JoCoProductions its much more like this in 3097, i believe they just made a typo
No, not at all
2098 here, and it's 100% accurate, in fact, green thug rosebush dude just beat trumpbot in the election
I believe nothing in that time period is or will be 16-bit.
4:59 - Jus' gotta touch 'em real quick and go. Touchemrealquickandgo.
OOOOOHYOUGOTTATOUCHEMREALQUICKANDGO
When you scroll across the time frame and all you see is them getting their asses get repeatedly kicked by Tattoo Rose.
It's so sad…
This is 8 years too late but I figured it out for that boss, when he tucks in to use the rose vine attack you can hit him there to interupt it, Arin did it twice but didn't realize it
I want a replay of that noise arin made at like 13:00 "uuuAAAUUUGGGHHH" -Arin Hanson
Linnea Collins one of my favorite sounds of frustration from Arin
9:50 Congratulations! You have unlocked 'Master Baiter"
time for sonic boom!......oh..
BAAYBAAYY I COMPARE THISBOSS TO A KIIISSS FROOMMM A ROOOSE!! 😂
They should make a animated version of this
No one insults my rose.
Thorns.
Tattoo.
Coca-cola.
WHAT THE FUCK I LOVE THE 90'S!
Dan listens to ratatat, fuck yes
he actually has a cover of one of their songs
i need to find it asap
damn its good
Just so you guys know, the songs aren't actually taken from Mortal Kombat, although the group that did Mortal Kombat, Psykosonik, was hired by Activision to chiptune their songs into the soundtrack for X-Kaliber.
Is that Balthios from Shut Up and Jam Gaiden?
This must be the game they took the sprite from for Shut up and Jam Gaiden, yeah.
I actually grew up with this game on the SNES, so it was a real treat to see it featured on the show. It did make me sad that they couldn't get past the first boss, because there are many frustrating levels later on. I really hope you guys revisit this game in Game Grumps versus though with the 2p duel!
i love how arin is like "i'm trying different shit, and none is working" just as he continues using the air attack and defend technique
Tips for anyone who might attempt to defeat this boss:
general tactic: always go for an attack when hes winding up, block immediately after landing a hit, to stop his attack spam use your ranged 'posing' attack from the other side of the screen to make him stop or you'll run out of time
strong aerial attack: use it when he's goin right and his back is turned towards you, hit him from the largest distance possible so that you can block if needed, block immediately after landing a hit. (because if he blocks it you're stunned for few frames and he goes for a 'rose attack' punish)
"The definition of insanity quote is wrong, sometimes you gotta do the same thing over and over" yeah, and you keep dying and dying
This video and the steam train yesterday is the first in a long time I've seen the community happy.
The dark era of grumps is no longer upon us
Just...
Touch 'em real quick and go.
That first boss looks like the hulk with a katana getting killed by a chestburster.
What is it with Arin having the hardest times with plant related bosses lately? lol
it's his kryptonite
Arin hates the environment
Laughing so hard, GGs are the best way to get rock hard abs from laughing. Best work out ever.
This is by far one of the funniest commentaries on a game play I have ever heard, please play more!
that boss is like playing against marth...
LOL
He doesnt chaingrab tho
I couldn't remember if I had seen this one or not then Danny got to the rose guy and I was like "Oh yeah, I think I remember..." then rose guy started destroying Danny mercilessly and was like "Oh right, this one."
Uh-oh. I've seen that face on the thumbnail before.
Balthios knows all about Zaubers, but unfortunately even that wasn't enough to beat Tattoo Man.
