A perfect kata, perfect demonstration and invaluable share of knowledge. The quality of recording is perfect. The legend of Asai continues. The kata is a way of expressing oneself and there may be more than 26 valuable ways to express the beauty of karate. Seiryu is like an ivy around a strong tree that throws its arms outside the limits of a tree.
Shotokan has enough katas already. Teaching yet another one is a waste of time imho, especially if it won't be practiced regularly afterwards (which will be the case for the vast majority of karateka present there). I think seminars for black belts should concentrate on bunkai of advanced kata as well as vital points practice.
That's one way of looking at it. Only memorizing the movements is probably a waste of time. But even if you completely forget the kata afterwards, the principles and unique applications taught can be extremely valuable to any Karate-Ka. Even for regular shotokan training.
Valid point. But the purpose of Asai Sensei's kata is to break Shotokan people out of their rigid mould. You could definitely forget a few of the Shotokan 26 and keep Seiryu in your mind instead, and I think you'd be richer for it.
Quite agree with you. Imagine trying to learn that stuck at the back, ridiculous. Even if you had knowledge of the kata before hand your just another body in room full of lots of people.
Does not work in a half-distance fight. 1. Unrealistic, staged attacks. 2. In battle, a hand on the hip means hasta la vista head! Both hands must always be kept in action at the same time.

OSS !!!!!!!!!
OSS !!!
For me he is the best with morio HIGAONNA.
But higaonna is old now.
OSS . But also we must strengthen our entire body by hitting like kyoushin kai style
shotokan doesnt do that
Tanoshikatta desu yo
Ohhhh I ain,t recognize him cos of beard😊
The beard looks good, sensei!
He needs to teach better applications. Those techniques won't work the way he is teaching it.
Why?
@@olliwaayou can’t use those types of big movements in a fight. Too slow. Your opponent will see it coming a mile away.
