I think this particular performance by Carolyn is superb. Her voice is so sultry, soft and smooth. It reminded me a a jazz nightclub. I liked the solos by the other artist, but I think for this song, a very short sax solo then back to Carolyn for the rest of the song would have been my preference. As to this outdoor performance series by NYC Phtoevents....very cool format. I just wish the spectators were a little quieter for this type performance, but when you get gatherings, outdoor, with kids, and folk yapping, this does happen. Still,. it brings a brand of music to many folk who would never hear it otherwise, so CUDOS. Again, wow, what a performance by Carolyn. Such talent is amazing......
The guitarist is really good. Not the best Escoffery I've heard. Two choruses would have been plenty, imho. Leonhart is totally on the case, as is the rhythm section. She does great things with the melody with resorting to the dreaded "scat" solo.
It was done in NYC Central Park 30 Bands. 30 Locations. 1 Setlist. They all played the same songs but with their own twist. It was very nice look for it in the fall. jazzandcolors.com/centralpark/
