More Migration Madness!

  • High migration is putting pressure on home prices and rents, and lifting the demand for more infrastructure, and diluting the GDP per capital (share of wealth generated in the country across an ever-increasing population, 84% of which growth came from migration. So this is a big political hot potato.
Many are calling for a cut in migration to fall to a level consistent with the current capacity to build new homes, though of course the corporate and university sectors want ever more people in the country to keep wages low, and boost the number of households to sell things to, while the tax take rises, which is why The Federal Treasury want more people too.
There has been some lip service to attempt to streamline and better target Australia’s immigration system, though mainly focussing on a reduction in student numbers. But now, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil says regional communities should benefit more from overseas arrivals, including through changes to cumbersome occupation lists and settlement rules.

@mylimomelbourne4757, The answer to your "why?" is because most people unwittingly voted for it. You know that the Liberal/Labor team have promised you big migration for years now, and multiculturalism for decades, but people keep voting for them. Watch the outcome of the British election this 4th July. They are wising up to the globalists. You may see them dump the two party system. We need that kind of change here.

I think rent should be tax deductible instead of negative gearing. Tax the crap out of greedy primitive accumulators. Poor people would then be able to save for a house. As well all people owning a house, mistakenly believe that is house prices are growing, they are getting wealthier
They are not - for various reasons
For example, a house I sold in 2022 for $500k was in no way a win because expansion of the money supply meant the $500k gave an equivalent spend of $250k of purchasing power 😄 as compared to the previous year
Same house is $750k now but $750k gives you purchasing power of $350k as compared with 2 year previous
So people are going backwards in real purchasing terms due to AUD buying us less and less
$20 in 2024 buys you what $5 would have bought you in 2022
And people getting the 'benefit' of inflated house prices are just being bought out to shaft it to the rest of society, young and old people especially
