- In this video, 2020 Daiwa Tatula SV In-Depth Teardown (FOLLOW ALONG), Hobie-Wan Kenobi will take apart the new 2020 Daiwa Tatula SV TW and show the internals as well as a few tips to stay organized while doing maintenance on a baitcasting reel.
Hobie-Wan Kenobi will show step by step to lube up a new reel. It is a long video but, will be very helpful to follow along with while doing maintenance on your Tatula SV TW.
The Daiwa Tatula SV TW is supposed to be able to cast light lures with ease. My past experience with the previous Tatula SV was pretty good in this regard. It was able to handle light and heavy baits pretty well. I fished a lot of buzzbaits with this one and it performed very well.
The 20 Tatula SV TW is palms very well and it noticeably smaller than the previous Tatula SV.
I ordered mine from The Tackle Trap. I used the TT10 code to get 10% off. At the time of this video, it was very comparable in price to other places, including eBay. It also helps that they are an authorized Daiwa Warranty Center and can supertune your reel before it even ships. If you are afraid or, just dont have the time to clean your reels, send them in to The Tackle Trap.

Very good video quality and your clarity in explaining. I watched many videos about this Daiwa model. I have difficulties assembling my reel. I can't understand how to position the large tooth gear so that the thumb trigger works. I think the reel in your video is the same as my SV TW 103XS L. Could you help me? Thanks

How often do you maintain your reels?
I do my maintenance annually. I have a lot of reels so, each reel does not get a lot of use through the year. If only using one or two reels very frequently, should clean more often

I swear I have the tatula twice and the 2 washers on the clicker were on both reels and on all other reels that I own exactly as they shouldn't be, so that's "perfect" fit together oO I also watched x other videos everybody says it like you, but I swear IN EVERY MY baitcasters they were like they shouldn't be oO But thank you great video helped a lot:) ✌️
Yeah...dont know what to tell you. If they are the ( shaped washers, they go like this )( under the drag star.
I took it apart because when I casted it sounded like there was sand in it and then I put it back together and the reel was hard to turn the handle is there any way you can help with that, great vid btw
Red one is called wet drag. It is can be greased. Black one is called dry drag. You dont want to grease it because it will reduce your drag performance. But it is okay to put a tiny layer on the main gear surface. Nice break down bro. Done sub !

Hey bro, are you still loving this reel ? I just bought the exact model. Gear ratio and everything. I was going to get a Curado but I believe this particular Diawa is superior.
I still like it. I have it on a previous gen Abu Garcia Veritas 7' M for crankbaits, jerkbaits and single hook moving baits.
Next time you get the reel torn down, you should take the main gear shaft all the way out and either grease or corrosionX oil that bearing at its base. That is the one that often fails for me. I do fish in saltwater a lot though. Edit: Also if you get grease down inside the pinion, if you take a Q tip and pull 75% of the cotton off, it will slide inside real nice.

Hey when I took apart my 8.1 sv ye I had 2 tiny little back pieces fall out and I have no clue where they came from please help.
What did the pieces looks like? A lot of times, the yoke springs can fall out pretty easy.
Are the bearings or gears loud on yours? I just got mine from overseas and its super loud when turning the handle
The bearings could be dry. Try putting a drop of oil on the bearings and see if that helps.
Would love to see a pitching and flipping review on the Tatula SV ver's the Shimano SLX DC.
I have not used the SLX DC. I do like pitching with the Tatula SV though.
@@HobieWanKenobi I loved my Tatula Type R for pitching until it one day it Disappeared without my permission and I am up in air between the two with my gut telling me to get the Tatula that I loved so much but my mind is telling me that DC is the way to go.
Get what you know. Upgraded bearings make a difference when pitching too.

Hey. How do you disassemble the spool bearing underneath the spool tension knob? It was too fast and far away in your Video. I dont get it of. There is something like a crown from inside.
I have the 200HS and I can't figure out why my drag is screwed up.
The problem started with my button not clicking open all the way before my cast. It would click and feel open but when I cast, it would screech and drag with an awful noise and not allow the spool to spin freely.
Now even when it cast smoothly, when I get a bite and the fish pulls the line, the drag doesn't work smoothly and quietly. It clicks and screeches and doesn't want to reel line in.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I've broken the reel all the way down and I just can't find the smoking gun
IDK man. Possibly the clutch engaging washer is backward or not set all the way down???
@@HobieWanKenobi Idk man I can't figure it out and I've set for hours fucking with this thing. I did screw up on assemble seed cereal times and had the reel going the wrong way but that was just the anti reverse flipped the wrong way. I assembled correctly and the reel works and the drag works smoothly with a little bit of force but if I pull hard or try to reel right line in it'll start slipping real hard and loud like grinding gears but I can't figure it out😭😭😭😭🤬🤬

Can you recommend a few bearing oils? I think you mentioned hedgehog alchemy oil in a recent video. Are there other oils you would recommend for spool bearings?
Hedgehog Alchemy Oil is nice for BFS bearings. The low viscosity helps with casting very light lures but, needs to be reapplied more often than a general purpose bearing oil. I am going to be trying out a newer company grease and oil. I will be doing a review on the products.

Hey man. Are you able to do a tutorial on how to restore the zero adjuster factory settings for this tatula sv spool? I have been searching all over the yt videos and i could not find any of them
With your spool in the reel, adjust the Zero Adjuster Knob to allow the spool to have a very small amount of side to side play. The spool should move but, barely at all.

I have a bearing question for you. Is the bearing sizes the same in all Tatula series?

@@walden6272 Those are the 100 sized reels. BFS and normal bearings are the same dimensions, just built different.
I believe I have the same daiwa baitcaster, is it possible to remove just the handle knobs?
Yes. There is a cap at the end of the knob. Remove that cap and uses a Phillips screwdriver to take the knobs off.
I was expecting you to remove the cast control cap, cause I lost mine :-)

Nice name 😂😂😂. I would say more than enough capacity with 25 to 30lb braid. My guess would be 90yds

I have a problema With my tatula 100, when a put it back the clutch and I turn the star for increas the power of the clutch, this get stock and turn the handle is more dificulta, what is happend With it?
Hey I bought this not that long ago and the spool has a large gap about 1/16-2/16 inches nearest the spool tension knob. The line will get caught in there and I don’t know if this it normal for the reel? Thanks
sounds you got a bad one. line shouldn't get caught on anything on spool.

The knob you hold while reeling? Yes. Take the black cap off and use a screwdriver to disassemble.

@@jimcallaham1392 Mine are just regular screw drivers you can get from any hardware store
@@HobieWanKenobi yea that's what I use. SLP works sells a screw driver that is not Phillips, not a blade but is designed to fit perfectly in those Daiwa screws. Sometimes I feel like I am about to damage the screws with the blade screwdrivers I use.
I have had pretty good luck with hardware store screwdrivers. As long as they are a tight fit

If you aren't drooling or have a chew in, you will be fine. Showing people how to clean a reel using an air compressor isn't really too applicable to most people.

It's a towel and this reel oddly still works like new. In this video / others, I said I value not losing components. It isn't cleaned in a lab and other surfaces gave a strong glare.
Why alcohol and water with soap oO makes no sense you can clean everything perfectly with alcohol and you don't have to worry about soap residue
I rinse the bearings after. The soap helps break down the grease better. Daiwa stock bearings have grease on them some times, especially on the Tatula. I like alcohol for oiled bearings.

No, no, not rubbing alcohol! It has impurities. Use alcohol made for fuel - denatured alcohol.
this is how not to service your reel...daiwa is notorious for not servicing reel yourself...video show the reel is A ok condition and doesn't need a service...everytime u service the reel yourself, u gonna lost 5 to 20 percent of its smoothness....the most craziest thing i saw from the video is soaking the bearing in any liquid to remove the oil....please guys...add very little oil or leave the bearing alone....i am begging u guys....
u add grease to the brass when u decide to fish in saltwater environment....
Do you oil your gears? Many stock reels have grease on the spool bearings, which is not desirable. Removing grease from the spool bearings will make it cast much better. This video was a follow along for people who want to maintain theirown reels
All Gears come greased from the factory aluminum or brass. So you definitely put grease on them, not oil. :) There are tons of grease types, for example, Shimano has a very good number system. DG04 is really light grease and works best with Shimano micro-module gears or bfs reels. D06 is medium-light grease and works best with your regular reel gears. For saltwater reels, there is DG013 with the best protection against water and of course salt. You know what is gonna lose smoothness fastest? Not maintaining your reels every season or after fishing in heavy rain. If you did everything properly it will be smoother than before maintenance. You really don't know what you are talking about.
All fishing reel gears come greased from the factory.. grease doesn't hurt smoothness.. You lose smoothness by either wearing the tolerances on the gear out or a bearing going bad, in which you just simply the replace it. Cleaning will not hurt the reel when done right and not having grease on the gears will most certainly expedite your reel losing its "smoothness"

I know the Tatula is overdone by Daiwa but, this version is a good reel. I am editing 2 Alphas AIR TW videos. One is a shorter version of this. The other is doing some stream brook trout fishing with it.

Insides are fairly similar. The new Tatula SV is a better performer for me. The smaller frame is noticeably smaller too.
