I miss this precious soul. I found her when I needed her and would fall asleep listening to her, as she was so comforting. I have made this onion pie for my 99 year old momma, Edna, and she loves it so much. I am about to put two pies in the oven as soon as my onions cool. I was so sad to learn of her and her Mr. Buckey passing. They touched so many and still do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart…

Yes, Mr. Bucky passed first. It was rather sudden. Then after he was gone, she became ill and although she went through treatments, she passed months after him.
      This was several years ago.

I only discovered Phyllis's videos about 1.5 yrs ago and have enjoyed every single one that I have watched. Her delivery style is so relaxing and informative. I am close to her age and can relate to most of what she says. I was shocked and so upset when I heard that she passed away. I am so very sorry that she is no longer with us. Her son has done a wonderful job of keeping her 'with us".

Steven, I found your mums channel a few months ago while searching for an Alsatian onion pie recipe and decided this was pretty much perfect. For a solid month afterward I would hurry home from work to decompress, watching one video after another (still working my way through) and making lists and plans to shop and cook along with her. Early on I thought something seemed very 'local' about her, and about the same time I discovered we were indeed in the same state I also began to realise she had passed-and very recently at that. I am so sorry for your loss but hope that carrying on with the channel will be some comfort. I am watching your videos and enjoying your stories as well and do hope you and yours are doing well in this strange time we're living in, self-isolating and learning new ways to acomplish things we took for granted before. Thank you for carrying on with this wonderful channel!

I felt like I knew your mother- course I didn't. Such a sweet voice and great food and a manner that made you feel like you were a friend. And in the end I think that's the most important thing we can do while we're on this earth. Sooo- I'm going to follow every bit of this recipe and eat way to much of it because I can't remember when it was that I had onion pie, but I did, and it's SOO good. as I'm positive her's is one of the best. And I'm making the crust dammit! I can do what she did there. So- condolences to you and an internet hand shake.

I remember when I kept being butter-shamed by my Mom because EVERYONE insisted margarine was the way to go and that butter was bad for you. Well... here we are being told that butter is good for you and margarine is not. Ha ha! I got tired of being told by dieticians and experts what we should or shouldn't use. After a bit of research and an executive decision, I do it my way. Usually I wind up being stubborn in the right direction. The key is in moderation because I rarely use Crisco or lard, but sometimes the recipe comes out better with the suggested ingredient.

Just want to shout out a big thank you for sharing this recipe! I stumbled on to this video yesterday looking for something different and found your onion pie recipe. I had never heard of a pie such as this, but I am a fan of sweet onions so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did.... this pie is amazing! I paired it with a kale salad and called it lunch! I will defiantly keep this in my favorite recipe file. Thanks again Phyllis, I am enjoying your channel!

Dear Philis' son(i 4got your name..sry..but I think it is Steven? Sry if Im wrong..)
I just wanted to point out once again that by putting your Mothers recipes on DVDs..would make anyone who owns them one happy camper!!
I just watch your Mother make onion pie..the instructions were so precice, and. Very easy to understand..her gentle voice calms you down, letting you know " YOU CAN DO THIS" attitude..and just the cleanliness of her cooking is such a joy to watch..she sets a very good example and work ethic that is so important in cooking..wether it is at home, or a restaurant atmosphere..
I sooo beg you to put theese on dvd so we can enjoy and learn from the best Southern Cook in my opinion.
I feel that after i watch her shows..I can get er done with confidence.
Sorry to ramble..but I think you should give it a try!! Im shure you dnt have to worry about selling her brand..she is much loved and respected..who wouldnt want to imulate such a fine ,talented, wise and (frugal!!) Cook???😀
Please leave me a comment..so i know you read this!!
You can have the proceeds go to her Church, or that school she loved..or any way you choose..her legacy would be fofilled and she would be sooooo proud!! I miss her very much, along with Mr.Bucky...take care of yourself!! Im gonna keep watching..and later make an onion pie!!😉👩‍🍳❣❣❣❣

One of my favorites, my coworkers are always perplexed when I tell them what I'm eating. I always add bacon and white peffer to mine and i don't mix the onions/bacon with the sour cream, i just pour the sour cream eggs flour mixture over the onions.

I made this last night, and it was absolutely delicious. I added small pieces of diced ham steak. Before baking, I ground pepper on the top. The speckled effect looked and tasted great. I knew I was likely to eat it all in a day, so I forced myself to freeze some for later. I have never made a pie before last night, and I am very happy with how nice it turned out. Thanks, Phyllis!

I lost count of how many times I made this pie since you first posted it. I tried a couple other recipes with all the added ingredients like shredded cheese, herbs, etc, but yours is simply the best by far!! The only thing I do differently is put a top crust on it because your crust is sooo good!👍

Miss you so much, Miss Phyllis. I'm comforted that you're still with us.
I have an aluminum 'crust circle' I got at a kitchen store to pop over the crust before I put it in the oven. Otherwise the edge of the crust turns black. It's really quite unfair because I was the kitchen kid and helped my mother make a million meals. Never got pie crust right.

A good Irish trick is to cover the whole edge of the pie in tinfoil, you can take a big piece and cut out the middle, fold it over so whole edge is covered and remove it 20 mins before the pie is finished 🙂

It's basically a Quiche. I do do this with Walla Walla Sweets and some times I'll add fresh green beans and smoked bacon, mushrooms or shrimp and crab or lobster. I never thought to use sour cream instead of 1/2 & 1/2 or cream. I know that nutmeg gives it a unique flavor that make everone guessing.

Hi Regan, I am so glad you tried the onion pie. Thanks for watching and making a comment. By the way if you like the onion pie you'll probably love the Quiche Lorraine Pie. When I did the video I only had 4 pieces of bacon, the recipe calls for 8 but it was still delicious. Something about the bacon and Swiss cheese that really taste great together. Phyllis
