I got my RT for my birthday this time last year. It had 4 stems, roughly 20cm in length each. It grew to 1m40 in filtered, natural light, ½ a metre from a South facing window. I propagated it for the 1st time last week (into water) & plan to take a few more cuttings for friends. Agreed, it was very easy to grow, & quite rewarding to see it change so much week to week (as someone new to plants) that was motivating to see it's growth. Highly recommend to anyone who can get their hands on 1 😍😍😍
One year ago I bought my Rhaphidophora.I am a plant killer. But it has grown for me fantastically. It grows in half Orchid half soil medium. It's my #1 house plants. Except my other few dozen #1 plants 🤣🤣🤣 It's easy cool plant.
I love my tissue culture Rhaphidophora! I got it in April of this year and it has grown more since then all of my other plants put together, a champion grower! Also if a plant is rare in its natural habitat but the demand suddenly shoots up as fast as one of these things grows, I think it`s beneficial to TC mass produce it, it keeps the price low so more people can enjoy it, and more importantly it discourages poaching.
I agree. I don't care it is TC, I am actually kinda glad. It is made affordable and the poaching is somewhat prevented by that. But for example, Alocasia zebrina is still being poached (in Phillpines I think?) It has been TC and it is available in many places, but they still take them from the wilderness. And it is also moderately rare in nature. I think I also read it is against the law to own one in a home there.
I bought a small Raphidophora tetrasperma from Gabriella plants in early summer. It’s doing very well and I will soon have to transplant it out of it’s 4 in pot. Your orchids are beautiful and I’m clapping loudly for a job well done.. I just ordered more grow lights because my plants are missing the summer light already. Winter is coming and the struggle is real for my sun loving plants. Great video and as always your sense of humor lifts my spirits!!!
I am happy your Rhaphidophora is doing well! It is really a wonderful plant to grow, very satisfying in my opinion. Thank you for the orchids :) I am very happy when I get anything to bloom :D Ah yes, the days are very short here too and thankfully I have all the lights. I think my room would look like a dark cave with so many plants and only the light coming from the window.
🙋🏼♀️ I owe one. It’s a baby and it’s not growing all that well. I’m looking for the right place in my house for it. I just found you 😊 Very much information in each video.
I have a RT and like you, I find this plant to be the queen for all the reasons! I love the vining, leaf size and separation between the leaves make this plant very pleasing to the eyes! Mine has grown moderately in the 5 months I have had her. I really enjoyed your video!
GtEaT Vid! First time I watched you and look forward to seeing more! Yes, I have one as well I ordered in line from Gabriella Plants out of Florida. It’s doing well and I’m looking forward to watching it grow! 👩🌾💚
Thank you! I am happy you like the content! Oh, it will grow very fast, you can sit back and watch it grow :D Which would be a fun experiment with a GoPro!
I love my RT! Its fun because it will go through spurts where it puts out like 5 leaves in a month and then will slow. I have cut it and given so many to friends and they are all thriving!
Very generous of you! I did promise one friend a cutting, but I cannot bring myself to do it xD But because it is getting so big I think I will have to, very soon :D
A local plant buddy just gave me acutting! Perfect timing. It hasn't rooted yet and I have been worried. We had a life event that has distracted me from all my plants.
maybe your plant gave some calcium and magnesium! I use something called Calla Magic where the calcium and magnesium Are chelated . so they're easily absorbed I know from watching Rick's orchids on UA-cam that orchids are calcium Hogs but many other plants need calcium for new growth so maybe if you added that to your water but you have to add it first if you're going to add any other fertilizers the lease would get bigger just a suggestion and sometimes the microphone on my cell phone keyboard doesn't hear the word correctly so you might see a strange word because I just notice it said leaseinstead of leaves. great video I have this plan that mine is tissue culture I bought two so maybe I'd have a bigger plant they sure do like water they dry out really quickly but they're still in the original Little Nursery pot. I bought mine from Steve's leaves
I do give them both calcium and magnesium :) I use RainMix now for my epiphytic plants, it is a new fertililzer I am trying out. The formula is the same as MSU fertilizer in the US (or very similar). It is supposed to do wonders for orchids!
I just took 2 cuttings last week from a large one on wood trellis. I planted 2 small ones in a pot with a wire support in a pole shape filled with bark. All are doing well. Did you tell us what fertilizer to use? Again, cheers I don't drink, but I did enjoy a root beer float while watching your video.
For the Rhaphidophora I put a small amount of slow release fertilizer in the potting mix (osmocote) and it will get water with around 400ppm RainMix (which is basically very weak, I use it for hoyas and orchids) but it is a good fertilizer because it has all necessary elements. Sometimes I will give it simply some seaweed fertilizer, and sometimes BioBizz Grow fertilizer (which is organic and not very strong, but I don't use it all the time as it doesn't have all the micronutrients). I am happy yours rooted so fast! Mine took a while to root in water!
Hi! I love your personality , can’t count how many times I laugh thru your videos😂👍. I also underwater too. So , my tc rhap was suffering from root rot when I bought it( I like to try and give it a better life ) it’s growing well but I was concerned bc some leaves will have less splits ?? What was the word you used to explain When leaves change shape? I’d like to read on that 🤔
For me, the first leaf after rooting it was with no fenestrations. But juvenile leaves will be like this too. The term is heterophylly. :) It is interesting to read about it!
Thank you so much for mentioning that Epipremnum aren't Pothos! 😂 R. tetrasperma is indeed a slower rooting plant, but like you said, once it's established it goes into the height like a rocket!
Well, have I got news for you! Latest record breaking houseplant in New Zealand sold for $27100. 😲 And guess what it was? Again - the variegated minima!
Just bought my RT last month as a babe. At least it is labeled as a RT Ginny, but I'm not sure because none of the four leaves on it have any definition. They just look like regular leaves. Is this common in the babies?

I agree. This means it is not that rare and that it can be created. Some variegated orchids are like this too (Sogo Vivien). I read, over time it disappears.
You seem sad or preoccupied in this video? Hope everything is ok. Maybe some more "cider", to be enjoyed with a couple of good friends? That will always cheer one up! Stay well, stay safe and keep these videos coming. We've all learned so much from them and really enjoying sharing our homes with you and your plants.
I hit that poor orchid so many times in the video. Ouch.
It was looking for your attention. 🥰

Found your videos today and I’ve enjoyed every video I’ve watched. You’re very humble and funny.

Love that plants and wish I could buy something online soon .
Totally agree about the tissue culture! Although I think I need one of each to truly investigate ;)
Oh, do it! And then tell me the results, haha :D
What a surprise 😀
I just got one. It's tissue culture and only has a couple of nodes right now. I love it!!
It will grow super fast! Prepare a pole, prepare a bigger pot and most importanly, a nice corner! :D
I'm growing this plant from a two leaf cutting. Rn I'm working on leaf number 5. Ur plant is goals! ❤
Oh, then it's doing well for you too! I had to start plenty of them from 1 or 2 leaf cuttings. Takes some patience 😂

This was fantastic 💖 I love mine, too. It seems to have suddenly stalled for some reason but has always grown like mad, like yours.
Mine does slow down in winter a bit but it doesn't stop completely. But the growth in summer is crazy! I am all for TC plants after this one 😂

Yes. Those are juvenile leaves. The more it grows, the more fenestrations you will have. I would give it some type of a pole, they love that!
