Hello! I'm 15 now and ojibwe! I've been singing this since I was around 8 ish in my group. I've had a falling out with my mother, which has disconnected me from my indigenous roots, however I still remember and love this song. This was one of my favorites. You all have beautiful voices. Miigwech!

I am absolutely in love with this song! I am in this drum group- and we sing this song to close it up, I usually start the push-up. The drum group I am apart of is the Haa Shagoon group. I think the only reason why I have joined the group is because my Mom was apart of it for awhile, and she passed away last year in May. I cried to this song one time, because I can feel her spirit there with me as I sing.

Just out of curiosity, what is the difference between this song and the "Turtle Song" sung by the Wabanaki?
They are one and the same. The Turtle represents our beautiful Mother Earth and Grandmother Moon which guide women and remind us we are all sacred. This is also why it is known as the Strong Women's Song.
