    I'm Jewish and use this curriculum. I teach my children tolerance for others and their beliefs. I usually include most of the non-denominational Christian content. The rare times I feel something isn't desired for our Jewish children to learn yet, we just skip over it or I slightly adjust how I teach it. The quality of the curriculum is so incredible, and the values taught are so precious to us. I feel blessed to have TGATB in our homeschool.

    I love that TGTB presenter their side of this topic in the most respectful way. They didn’t bash a company or individual people. They are living the Christlike traits I want to teach my children. I really doubt we’d be homeschooling if it weren’t for this blessed curriculum!

    It's crazy to me that they have to go to these lengths to defend/explain themselves. If people would take the time to research, they could go to their website and look through ALL of the curriculum before buying. They have the most extensive samples of any curriculum I have ever purchased. As a born again Christian, I love this curriculum and always recommend it to other homeschoolers. Keep up the great work ladies (and men)!

      They are reframing the controversy. Nobody ever said LDS teachings were in the curriculum. But by claiming LDS is a denomination of Christianity when it has very little in common with Christianity is the very problem. They further perpetuate that myth in this video. The defense is the evidence. I don't know what faith you belong to. Mormons always claim to be Christians and you might be among that group. The rest of the Christian world disagrees. Theologically, they are further apart from Christianity than Islam.

    We have loved our The Good andThe Beautiful curriculum and plan to continue to use it. We are Southern Baptist and have had no issues with finding or believing we are being “indoctrinated” by the LDS church. It is so crazy that other people/companies can’t let their curriculum stand on its own merit, and feel the need to TRY to tear down such a wonderful company! Thank you The Good and The Beautiful and Jenny Phillips for such a wonderful and wholesome curriculum we can use to teach our children at home! ❤️

      ours too! it was a direct answer to prayer. we had already spent money on two different curriculum lines and they were not working. i knew i had to find something FAST if we were going to endure the long haul. i was literally stewing and worried and very discouraged. i literally prayed for the Lord to please guide me. i didn't want my kids to want to go to public school or to be in tears during school. i went on a curriculum review site and there was a banner for TGTB...i loved the name and i thought the banner was beautiful. i clicked and browsed. i love that you can download all of the lower levels for free in their entirety. what other company does that? NONE. that's how many. and i was wary of the LDS influence but i sought wisdom and was told, you have no idea what any of the writers believe at other more well known companies. what if some of them don't believe the Bible word for word? would you stop using it? of course not. she encouraged me to try it and if i came across anything i found worrisome, i could just stop using it. i was no further behind than i was at the moment. i love love love this curriculum. like, i tell everyone about it! i love it!

    We love this curriculum. As a Catholic parent, I mix my curriculum choices. The Language Arts, History and Science unit studies we have used over the past three years have all been beautiful, high-quality and mention God in a gentle way. Most importantly, they are full of important reminders to teach children to be good, trustworthy, caring and helpful people. We love them. Are they perfect? Of course not. I've never seen anything that is. The LA programs are extensive in teaching phonics and the art is stunning. We have also used HS1 English and that is equally well presented and easy to follow for the student. They even provide answer keys. I don't understand how many times they need to discuss this topic. Forget the UA-camr videos. Look it for yourself and decide what is right for your family. We thank them for the excellent curriculum and for bringing back so many cherished, quality reading books for our library. It's sad to me that people feel the need to make videos on their channels, that have nothing to do with the QUALITY. If it's not right for your family then use something different. Look at the samples and decide for yourself if you feel it's representing your ideals and if your family will like and enjoy learning with it. Homeschooling is hard work. I take it very seriously and I'm grateful and happy to have this company.

    We absolutely love this curriculum! We started using it three years ago when I wasn’t sure what to do to insure my children were getting a well-rounded education. I was struggling and finally decided to look into TGTB curriculum. We did a placement test and they were behind, but my children have come so far in the last few years. They were able to accelerate through a few levels and are all on the level they should be on now. We also love the history and science and my kids beg to do it every day. This curriculum has become such a big part of our education I even help with the high school support class for 10 high school students at my local co-op. Some of the students have never used TGTB before this year and I love to hear the comments about how they wish they would’ve known about this curriculum earlier. I love the way TGTB curriculum has provided confidence in my children and their friends lives. Thank you so much to Jenny and her team. I use it too and will continue to do so. But the argument presented here is strawman. Nobody is claiming there are LDS beliefs in the curriculum. The nature of the disagreement (and I have not seen any hate just disagreement) is different than what is presented in this video.

      @@amythinks what is the nature of the disagreement?

    • @amythinks
      @amythinks 3 роки тому +1

      @@moniquepowers1726 The nature of the disagreement is whether or not it's okay to promote the idea that Mormons are Christians (or look the other way while Mormons claims themselves to be Christians). This is a very sensitive subject for Mormons, who do consider themselves Christians. But no Christian theologian outside of the Mormon church that I know of would agree. The differences are major and fundamental. It's not about being nice or friendly or anti-Mormon at all, it's about whether or not, for example, you have to be a monotheist to be considered a Christian. It's really a matter of definitions. (Frankly, I'm not clear why Mormons want to be called Christians and confuse their own flock about their theology. Well, actually, I know exactly why but that's a different subject.) Do we do detrimental harm to theology of Christianity, do we confuse people by letting this slide? In this video, they further the argument of those who are uncomfortable with this by saying their curriculum is okay for all Christians, then proceed to list a bunch of Christian denominations and LDS in the same breath. So, if you are a Mormon, then using the curriculum is a no-brainer. If you are Christian, then you have to weigh the pros and cons. I'm using the curriculum. Am I party to the watering down of Christianity? Well, maybe. Do I feel guilty about that...yeah, kinda. Is the curriculum great? Yes. Have I had more trouble with Protestant curriculum as a Catholic when they do not do their due diligence in ensuring what they say is acceptable to all Christians? Yup. Have I ever had trouble with that same thing with TGTB who do their due diligence. Nope. It's not an easy call. The problem is not what's in the curriculum. The concern is the company's clear perspective and continual promotion of the idea that Mormons are Christians, despite the fact the Mormon Church has many beliefs incompatible with Christianity.

    • @moniquepowers1726
      @moniquepowers1726 3 роки тому

      @@amythinks Well - as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints myself, I could debate your assertions, but that isn’t my purpose here and I don’t desire to. You believe what you believe, as do I, and that is fine :)The point I do want to make is this:
      You ask if it is “okay for Mormons to promote the idea that they are Christians”. Of course it is okay. People are free to promote any beliefs they believe in, and furthermore, as a member of my church it is okay for me to proclaim myself as a devoted Christian, which I do, and am. It is the responsibility of those who disagree, or feel my claims are false, to gracefully and respectfully acknowledge my beliefs differ from theirs and move on. Insisting to someone who believes deeply in Christ, that they are not a Christian - according to their definition - is appalling to the one receiving it. I would never do that to another person of another belief system - they can call themselves what they like. Makes no difference to me. I am not concerned with what various theologians have determined about me or my faith. I take zero issue with other Christians and how their beliefs differ from mine. It puzzles me why many Christians choose to aggressively dismiss and defame my beliefs and my church - our religion does not do this. In no congregations of our church is there ever teaching against, or criticism of, other religions. Other religions or denominations are very rarely mentioned or named, and even in those cases, are not bashed or criticized. I don’t see why other churches feel the need to specifically teach against any other religion, rather than simply teach the doctrine of theirs. I’ve often felt a kinship with Catholics, as I’ve seen their religion often gets bashed by other Christians as well, and I have found every catholic woman of my acquaintance to be godly, gracious, friendly and respectful to me.
      Anyway, I do see that of course there is concern by those not of the faith of the curriculum company owner, of course! I do the same thing when examining curriculum for my children. It is the duty of every conscientious parent. But as has been pointed out many times, much of their curriculum is free online to peruse by parents so they can make their determination as to whether or not they feel their own values and perspectives are reflected in it, before they purchase. That is also the purpose behind Jenny emphasizing that the curriculum has been vetted by women of many different faiths. Whether or not someone objects to Jenny’s beliefs, her point is proven that the Judeo Christian perspective woven into the curriculum has been nearly universally deemed acceptable to all women of faith. She’s trying to calm parents fears, and invites mothers to examine the curriculum free online before purchase.

      @@moniquepowers1726 Of course you can call yourself whatever you want...Christian or otherwise. This is a free country (sorta). But the controversy is among those who do not feel comfortable in agreeing with you. They spend their money how they wish. You spend yours how you wish. Nobody is maligning anybody. It is a matter of agreeing or disagreeing about a definition. If you are in the camp of the truth being relative and anybody can say their own truth and an objective truth does not matter, you are in the company of many others who agree. As I have said, I use the curriculum. Your fight is not with me. Do not shoot the messenger. You asked what made others uncomfortable, I am telling you truthfully the answer to your question. When you look at the larger geo-political landscape, we are on the same team.

    It really is as stated - a non denominational Christian curriculum. There is nothing LDS in any of it and it makes me sad that people would not use it just because Jenny is LDS. We love your curriculum Jenny, it is thorough and makes me feel confident that as a mother I am doing my best for my children and teaching them good and beautiful things. I cannot thank you enough for what you have created :)

    The only problem with this curriculum is it is so awesome I want to buy things I don't even need and most of the time I am able to convince myself that I really do need them. Ha! I am so grateful for the whole Good and the Beautiful team for their hard work. It has made my job as a teacher so much more enjoyable. My favorite is the history curriculum and especially the read-aloud books that are suggested. When we are having a rough school day we just reset with a read-aloud. I recommend this curriculum even to friends who aren't currently homeschooling because I just appreciate it so much.

    I greatly appreciate the clarity, grace, love, and genuineness that is flowing through this video. I am new to homeschooling, and am very cautiously going through curriculum. So much of our generation is so used to being sneakily "sold" on different ideologies from ALL areas of life (religious and nonreligious), and I was worried TGATB would be more of the same. This content helps me understand exactly what is taught, and I can imagine where I may introduce perspectives related to our own world view and faith. I greatly appreciate you putting the doctrinal responsibility and obligation into the families hands. And it is good and beautiful that homeschooling can happen by all faiths and religions in this country :-) Just wanted to say thank-you - albeit two years late! - for this video!

    If it helps anyone, my husband is a minister in what would best be labeled as a Non-denominational Bible based church. We think the curriculum is beatiful. It teaches the basics of God's goodness and provision for us along with morals and the importance of high character. It leaves the 'major' issues of theology up to parents and Church. Plus it is affordable. Before my husband was a minister he was a graphics designer and was in print design. He says the paper and art are really nice quality. I dont have his expertise but they are so pretty and well made.

    I AM an LDS member and trust me there's absolutely no connection to my religion. It's using basic Bible sources/basic Christian beliefs. Nothing is being pushed. I just think when people find out she's a member of the LDS church they freak out and then miss out on such a wonderful and beautiful curriculum. ☹️ We are LDS and also use apologia for high school science. No problems there... It's Christian based so I'm thrilled!! Better for my family to follow Christian curriculum than what the world/gov wants to teach in school.

    I guess the one question I have is how a curriculum can be appropriate for all of these faiths since all of these faiths have different doctrinal stands. We don't all agree on "basic Biblical truths", especially those of a religious worldview that don't even support God's Word. This seems to be the same approach that Sonlight has also taken.

      @Jenny Phillips But, how can a Hindu or Muslim be happy if you make even a reference that God created or that God loves us. They don't recognize God (the one true God of the Bible), therefore this would be an affront. I'm not talking about specific doctrines, but rather, am addressing the claim that people of all faith will be happy with this curriculum.

      @@BrendaKelly-ee7wo some people of different faiths use it and share the belief that God created the world, and some don't. There are other curriculum available for those people who feel this one won't be right for them and their families ideals or beliefs. :)

    I noticed nobody talks about Jesus in this video. There are many Christ centered curriculum but this is not, correct? This is basically high moral and belief in God the father curriculum?
    I believe LDS do not believe Jesus to be equal to God or His son? So you won't find anything about Jesus in there, right??

      Thank you for your interest, Ana! The Good and the Beautiful takes a general Christian viewpoint which includes Jesus Christ and focusing not on the doctrine of any particular Christian church. Jesus Christ is in our courses and is included in many of our Library books. We encourage you to review the sample pages, and download the full course (for free for levels K-8), to see if this is a good fit for your family. For a few examples of how Jesus Christ is incorporated into lessons, you can download our Level 1 Language Arts course here (see lessons 51, 53, and 107 to name just a few). Parents are encouraged to add in their own doctrinal beliefs as desired.

Parents can add in their own doctrinal beliefs as desired.
      A few of our products are non-religious, you can find that list here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jvKIRpGrDCFhIM56i7M9tSgAXIIIe3CX2MEP6X34iog/edit#gid=0
      From feedback from other non-religious families, these items tend to be the easiest to take the religious content out as you are using them: nature notebook and language arts. Science is a little harder, and history is even harder. We have a very strict refund policy, so please view the extensive samples we offer on our website before purchasing.

    Is there a video that explains the changes they are making in level 3?

    • @TheGoodandtheBeautiful
      @TheGoodandtheBeautiful  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Patricia! We don't have a video but here is some additional information. The new Level 3 course is composed of a newly designed course book; a hard-bound book of children’s poetry with beautiful, original illustrations; a personal reader; and a PDF answer key. The challenging word flashcards are replaced with a “Challenging Word Climb” right in the course book where children “climb” fun illustrated mountains and draw a flag on top of each mountain after mastering its words. The format is changing quite extensively but only small changes will be made in scope. The child will still learn the same things in each level, except for some small changes. We are mainly simplifying and improving how concepts are presented and organized and how the courses look. You can see more details about the new editions here: www.goodandbeautiful.com/faq-help-extras/new-editions-faqs/

    Truth?

  • @monicabooth2812
    @monicabooth2812 3 роки тому +1

    This is a difficult question to ask and I'm sure a difficult question to consider the answer for but here goes: The January 6, 2021 insurrection against the U.S. Capitol building intended to disrupt the democratic process has been directly linked to radicalization in the Christian Homeschooling Movement in the United States over the past few decades, and it's apparent that the principles being taught there are also showing up in homeschooling circles in Canada too. Those who espouse those extreme views ALSO believe that what they're teaching is "basic Biblical truths". I've seen examples of curricula that are very clever at teaching children that modern notions of diversity and equity are a threat to so-called "freedom" without ACTUALLY saying those words (and a few examples where they WERE that explicit!). So my question is: how are you ensuring that your curriculum avoids indoctrination of certain biases and leanings so often found in Christian circles? Is the inter-denominational review team also diverse intersectionally across ethnicities, genders, political leanings, socioeconomic situations, etc? Because it's not always easy to spot subtle white supremacy or Christian authoritarianism inherent in curricula (even public school systems can struggle in this area).
    I ask this because I'm having a real hard time finding completely secular curricula that I find academically sufficient, but I don't want to choose a religious curriculum that imparts a worldview on my child that makes them fearful or resentful of those who exist outside that worldview. I'm glad to hear that this curriculum is reviewed by people of a variety of Christian denominations so hopefully my worries are unfounded, but I feel the need to ask simply because of what Christian Homeschooling in North America seems to be doing on a whole right now.
    Thanks!

    • @TheGoodandtheBeautiful
      @TheGoodandtheBeautiful  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Monica,
      Thank you for reaching out. We don't feel that we hold or teach any radical views, but some people think that believing in Christ is radical. We feel it is radical to generalize the Christian homeschooling movement as being linked to the insurrection on the Capitol, which we very much do not support, so it is all subjective and for each individual to judge what radical means to them.
      We certainly don't hold the view or feel that we teach any modern notions of diversity and equity being a threat to freedom. However, we have found that no matter how we approach things, it is not the right way for some people. We do our best and encourage you, and anyone else interested in our curriculum, to take a look inside the full-year courses we offer for free (language arts levels 1-5) as well as the extensive samples and information available on our website. It is likely if you are not Christian that you will find our history and science, more than any other subjects, very heavy on Christianity, so that may not be the best match of what you are looking for. I can say that we definitely have political leanings and bias as our curriculum favors smaller government and principles of self reliance rather than government reliance. Based on your message, it doesn't sound like our history curriculum would be the best match for you, but there are many hundreds to choose from, so we hope you can find one that matches your personal political leanings. May you be blessed in your journey!
