It looks funny to see the trains entering the tunnel on your zoom lens; the way it reduces distances, it makes it look like the train is almost falling off a cliff. I'd never noticed how much the tracks decline at that point. Also nice to see platofrm 1 being used, albeit for an "Out of Service" train.
HS1 seems to be a hugely successful route. I really wanted HS2 to be plugged into this to provide a direct link between the South-East, to the Midlands and the North via Stratford 'International'. Would've made a lot of sense.
Stratford Int'l on our HS1 route. Nice track side footage, showing the slope of the tracks. I have done the HS1 on a Eurostar to Lile Europe, from St Pancras. stopping at Ebbsfleet Int'l Racing through Ashford.
Class 373 trains are the Eurostar trains, Siemens never had a look in. It was UK / France consortium that built those trains. Now its bog standard. The 90s were so diverse.
The Javelin well very impressed what a nice machine also the Eurostar not seen the Javelin in action before sadly in West Wales where I live one fine day we will have Electric trains on the GWR Line to Swansea but not sure when ? lol
I assume the new Eurostar E320s are built to the larger loading gauge found in most of Europe, meaning these trains can't be used beyond HS1 in the UK (until HS2 arrives) unlike the 373s?
So how come platforms 1&4 are not used? Great vid by the way. Do love the old Eurostar units when they whoosh past. The new ones are smart but don't have the same audio impact.
They were to be used by Eurostar during the Olympics but they were not in the end, they may be used by Eurostar and peak South eastern services in the future.
Apparently, the outer platforms were built to continental standard. So while a Eurostar would be fine to stop there (which they normally don't), it would be harder for Javelins to take on passengers or let them off since their dorrs are higher.
JavozREKZ / REKZboss its not stopping for the train station it came off a set of points to let another train pass trough cant u see the javelin thats waiting on the right track in 6:22? Ive seem them do it all the time i come here
The Javelin train can travel at 140 mph but i heard it's restricted to 125mph, but the Eurostar on the same track travels at 186mph, it doesnt make sense to me? Does anyone know more?
Javelin's can do 140mph in the tunnels and also through the station if they are on the avoid lines. Whereas Javelin's are timed to stop at intermediate stops, Eurostar services are usually direct without the need to slow down so are allowed to reach 186mph as they do not have to stop from this speed. If a Javelin could do 186mph, it wouldn't stop in time for Ebsfleet or Stratford....
I see two 'high speed' Eurostars passing slowly through the station... the joys of having slow Javelins share the same line no doubt. I thought that was a bad idea when they mooted it some time ago.
just wondering, Do the staff at that station let you sign in to take pics say if you have come from stratford national or are they not so nice and you have to come on a 395 ?
i hope they give you a platform ticket, i was at Stratford International 3 weeks ago and i was kind of begging my mum to let me ask them if i could see the Javelin. but next year im gonna go on one myself! thats even better
Special fares are charged when using the high speed service. It will charge you more. Check their website for more information www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/offers-and-destinations/tickets/high-speed/
Ah, it's worth it a lot. Same prices for everywhere on the NR network, and Stratford regional is a 2 min walk round the corner if you're interested - also worth it. But no problem :)
+s125ish I think they can theoretically do the full 186mph through Stratford, they're just usually a little slower because they're either braking for St. Pancras, or still accelerating.
best leave your camera on standard focal length, all that zooming in when they are far off kills the effect of high speed. everybody knows what they look like close up so let them just come and go into frame naturally. respect for standing around all that time tho, haha, funny enough, has anybody noticed that the new HST doesn;t have that lovely sonic booming as it passes ??
You can't beat the sound of the old Eurostar trains.
Sicilian Gecko not all, there’s a full set in preservation
Sicilian Gecko They are nowhere near as good in terms of sound in my opinion
Ikr they sound magnificent 👌
Those Javelin trains sound really good as they pull away.
i hope so. im planning to travel on one next year
Yeah I love the javelins one! They look better then the other southeastern In like Lee or Charing Cross
And plus it god way faster
But in Stratford they go slow because is busy there
neildKoR ikr its like Vmm Vmmm Vmmmm Vmmmmm Vmmmmm etc
They look and sound like toy trains to me.
The sound of a 373 speeding past is the closest thing to audio heaven for me.

Thats too logical to get built!
Never thought I'd actually find a video of someone filming trains for so long! 😂 Really good video 👌
Even the e300 373’s don’t sound as good as the unrefurbished sets. 7:39 that was incredible

Sad enought to hear, those new E320 units no longer have that "whoosh" sound as they speed through :(
Yeah and the new euro star class looks ugly xD
+ƘƖƝƓ ƁƬ I think the older sets are uglier because of their small windscreens.
+YCM Railfan maybe but I was saying the outside
Okay.
Yes that is what i dont like about them and they are somewhat ugly, but similar to the ICE Siemens trains
Everything is diesel in the U S...Trolley lines use electricity...Can't believe we have so few high speed services...Very cool video...
Gotta love the old eurostar train
Terrific speed right through the city limits!
Do you think we'll ever see a day where some international traffic actually stops at Stratford? lol
Nice one
A Very interesting film.as I haven't seen many of these , Thanks Matt
Great video!! the new Eurostar trains look good!!
the class 373 sound nice at speed when passing by
The Javelin well very impressed what a nice machine also the Eurostar not seen the Javelin in action before sadly in West Wales where I live one fine day we will have Electric trains on the GWR Line to Swansea but not sure when ? lol
Guys,do you saw how many Eurostar e320 passing by?
5:50 I thought platforms 1 and 4 were disused?
Class 395 They are. The 395's were using it as a place to stay whilst that empty stock went by.
3:08 the thumbnail of this video and formerly the thumbnail of TAS 5
I’d love to go on a Eurostar service if they’re still in operation when it’s safe to travel.
Javelins- They have headlights on a different height so i personally think they look derpy.
What? Marker lights? What are those?
I like this video

At 5:13 why is the Javelin going so slow?
Actually letting a late running train past it on opposite track before it moves off again. I work on hs1 and they do it all the time
JavozREKZ / REKZboss its not stopping for the train station it came off a set of points to let another train pass trough cant u see the javelin thats waiting on the right track in 6:22? Ive seem them do it all the time i come here
A very good video dude, well done. :)
cool great video im one happy subscriber keep up the good work and have a good christmas
What's that weird looking train called at the end with 2 pantograph never seen them before
class 395 Javelin. im planning to go on one next year. if i can get the money in time xD
i think he's refering to the class 374
Superb!
Do the eurostar stop at Stratford int.?
Sometimes I think because you can actually purchase tickets to go to Europe from there
What other stations did you go to?
How do you get onto the platforms?
Nice video I've never seen a train go into one of the outer platforms -Kyle
Do they only go one way at evening peak???!!!
...No?
Very nice video :)
Why are there 2 extra platforms if they are always blocked off? It has the signs, clock and Departure Board So it Should Still be in use.
They may be used by Eurostar and peak time South eastern services in the future.

+Leo Martin so is it the 2nd Britains fastest trains?
+ƘƖƝƓ ƁƬ the Javelin is the 2nd fastest UK train yes. Eurostar fastest, Javelin second then Intercity 125.
+Chris Danns no it's 1st Fastest britains train but I'm not sure of uk
That brexit comment doesnt make any sense. Maybe you need a dictionary?
what time of day as in the 24 hour clock was all of this happening at?
MTSSV8 Films the eurostars pass by every 2 hours and the javelins every 15-30 minutes
I see two 'high speed' Eurostars passing slowly through the station... the joys of having slow Javelins share the same line no doubt. I thought that was a bad idea when they mooted it some time ago.
What type of recorder do you use ?
Nice video
The javelins are Japanese aren't they, made by the companies behind the shinkansen trains ?
They are hitachi
just wondering, Do the staff at that station let you sign in to take pics say if you have come from stratford national or are they not so nice and you have to come on a 395 ?
i hope they give you a platform ticket, i was at Stratford International 3 weeks ago and i was kind of begging my mum to let me ask them if i could see the Javelin. but next year im gonna go on one myself! thats even better
What time was this? I was there the same day in the morning and a little later (great vid btw)
Can you go there with just like an ordinary ticket or travelcard or Oyster or whatever? You don't need a special ticket or anything?
Special fares are charged when using the high speed service. It will charge you more. Check their website for more information www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/offers-and-destinations/tickets/high-speed/
Why do the old Eurostars make that whooshing sound?
Low pressure inbetween the carriages
Do you need a ticket to go down there?
Platform ticket, 10p/hr.
Cheers. Gonna be working near Westham soon so might pop down there to have a look afterwards :)
Ah, it's worth it a lot. Same prices for everywhere on the NR network, and Stratford regional is a 2 min walk round the corner if you're interested - also worth it. But no problem :)
When did those yellow strips on the sides of the nose become standard?
They give the train a catfish like appearance.
i think its so that people don't get confused between the Javelin and the Class 800
The first javelin to depart
Me:what I fault it was poppy day on November 14th
3:18 I was on that on my evening commute!
surprised how fast they are going through Stratford
+s125ish I think they can theoretically do the full 186mph through Stratford, they're just usually a little slower because they're either braking for St. Pancras, or still accelerating.
+SadPanda926 No, track limit is 140mph between St Pancras and Ebbsfleet.
+alfievision For javelins it is since it's their max speed. I'm guessing it's increasing to 200 for the E320s and they can accelerate quicker.
It's 186mph after Ebbsfleet to Ashford, but because of the tunnel design restrictions from Stratford to Dagenham it is definitely 140mph.
Ah, I see. The speeds do seem fairly similar but that's because I thought they were still accelerating.
And now the JAVELINS have muted into AZUMA and GWR and all
Other rail companies ;) Hull trains newest one EMR the next one class 810
2:01
It's okay hs1, I'm faster than you.. don't hate😟
I'll go nice and easy through this station,
so you feel better ☺️♥️
@@grahamscutt2173 😂
I'd like to see one of those fuckers come by at max speed!
Im actually happy they made the new eurostars i was getting abit tired of the old ones (not the refurbished version)
7:38
You get tired of that?
best leave your camera on standard focal length, all that zooming in when they are far off kills the effect of high speed. everybody knows what they look like close up so let them just come and go into frame naturally. respect for standing around all that time tho, haha, funny enough, has anybody noticed that the new HST doesn;t have that lovely sonic booming as it passes ??
The new Eurostar trains look terrible compared to the originals.
I agree. And the new Eurostar paint, on the front of the cab, is horrible. But hey, everything needs an upgrade eventually
Those Class 374 Velaros are really ugly aren't they. You can see why they're called 'Snakes' in Germany.
+AndreiTupolev I call them 'Velociraptors' ;)
+AndreiTupolev I agree, the 373s look a lot better. They 373s look fast whereas the 374s look fat and ugly
MrDreamliner same
Ehh I like how they look.
ATENTIE, NU TRECETI LINIA PRIN LOC NEPERMIS, AMENDA 1000 EURO SAU, DOAMNE FERESTE 4 AMPUTARI DE MEMBRE
the new eurostars are beauties
They're disgusting
The javelins are so boring
these cars are european styled dont like it
