I really like Erasure and I think Andy and Vince are very nice people. It’s also cool that a very gay man and a straight man can be such good friends and band mates. Vince doesn’t seem to get freaked out about all of the gayness and gay clubs. 👍🏻😁
Vince was doing the gay club thing from the start with Depeche Mode. Those were the first and for a while the only gigs that band got, and they were happy to have this. Vince even seemed to write some songs aimed at that audience, which appear on Depeche Mode's first album _Speak & Spell_ ; it should be fairly obvious which ones they are. So he has always been comfortable in that environment or "world" or whatever, and it has never bothered him that people would assume that he's gay, due to being one-half of Erasure, even though he is straight. As for pairing up with Andy, as I recall from Vince's own statements, I don't think he was sure whether Andy was gay at first, based on his audition. Vince and Flood (the producer) were like "D'you think he's gay?" but it was never an issue for Vince. He would have banked on Andy and Erasure regardless. Even after _Wonderland_ flopped, I don't think Vince ever considered calling it off--he had found his songwriting partner. And that's the way it should be.
