nice to see love for the album in the comments here. it took its own time to grow on me but ended up finding its way to my top 5 favourite erasure albums, and favourite albums over all. Alien, Mad As We Are and Love is the Rage are truly beautiful songs. there's nothing else like it.
Loveboat is a really dark sounding album, in terms of mixing and production, but i like it so much because it sounds original. I remember a song maybe moon and sky, really dark sounding quite low fi, i can hear a kurzweil k2000 synthesizer and some analogues, very unusual.
'Then Flood got involved & really started screwing the sounds up' pretty much sums up this album. A couole of beautuful songs (Where In The World, Mad As We Are) a few decent ones & one mediocre (Surreal) but all ruined by awful production. I would pay a lot of money for a decent remix of this album 😁
And it's a bit weird that it sounds like this way, as Flood has previously worked with DM and Erasure with top results. But Vince has also said that it's supposed to sound this way
Great little gem here as Loveboat wasn't very well promoted. I suppose looking back at it now, it was kinda like their "dark" period 😂. Interesting to hear at this time that Andy's first solo album was gonna be a cover versions record which then became Erasure's next album Other People's Songs.
I think if they'd have gone with the same team as on the Chorus album, it could well have been a Chorus part 2. . But for me, the songs weren't standard strength for an erasure album.
3:12 That's why the album sounds so bad. Most of the tracks sound like demos. Perchance to Dream has such a low bassline if you turn up the volume to hear it the rest of the instruments become distorted. Much better version on Buried Treasure 2. Would love to see Loveboat set sail again with a better mix of these songs.
the semi official word is that album flopped and Freedom was so "guitar riff" that did not get much attention but, the worst thing from Loveboat was the mixing quality. It sounded awful and poor equalized. That is why they rerecorded Moon & The Sky for its EP
Loveboat was their weakest album in my opinion, but the follow up album andy mentions, ended up becoming union street, released in 2006.. i can remember watching them live doing on the tour for that album in nottingham with my then girlfriend. other people's songs, was straight after loveboat. A good, natural vibe interview
the main problem with Loveboat is simply its "audio mastering", it is in brackets because I really doubt that that happened. Also the Freedom single audio is the worst you can hear or play on your audio system. I'm not sure whar really happened there. Hope they release a remaster sometime.

Great interview, all the more there wasn't many ERASURE shots from Loveboat era...
Thanks !
LOVEBOAT!!
The night Andy walked into my bar in Toronto x.

Catch 22. A great pop tune.

so what happened? Why didn't they release Alien as a 2nd single?

@@FaSCoRP Now if they can only do that to the rest of the songs and re-release it for an anniversary edition of the album 🙂
@@shine01120 That may well yet happen as they are slowly releasing repackaged editions of each album.
I prefer the un-commercial sound of Loveboat,,,but hate the album title...so i have renamed it 'FREEDOM'...
It has some good songs, even great writing but the production is awful, as if it was recorded on bad analogue C60 tape.

The album after Other People's Songs was Nightbird, a real return to form 😀
Well their both pretty minted so it's not like they'll lose sleep over the albums failure.
Remix this Album! The songs are great but the mix is crap!
