- The Chevy Corvette Grand Sport is a factory widebody autocross car...but what does that mean for someone considering buying one?
2012 c6 gs vette 6 speed...let's take a drive in this gorgeous vette gs...nut first, let's give thanks to BMW of Hawaii for making this video possible!

The Grand Sport has the same steel chassis as the base version. The Z06 and ZR1 have aluminum frames. The only thing wider on the grand sport are the body panels and tires. You can swap them onto the base version no issues.
From Road and Track: The Grand Sport's powertrain is exactly the same as the base car's, but for a mere $6400 extra you get a lot of wider stuff-wider Goodyear F1 Supercar tires, a wider, more flared and chiseled body and a wider steel frame.
@@everycarSeattle You're incorrect about the frame. Same exact steel frame as a base model. The rest is spot on.
@Commentor1 Yeah I was waiting for someone to notice this. After hearing him saying that, anything else he says is invalid smh.
@@everycarSeattle Once again you're mistaken, the grand sport uses the exact same steel chassis as the base model c6
@Commentor1 What's next, is he gonna tell us the Chevy SS is really just a malibu with a v8?😂
Thank you to BMW of Hawaii for making this video possible and to Merry Tunney for filming it!
Im sorry...I can't help myself. At 1:04 you state the car is rare...if you mean Corvettes in general, they are lower production...but of the 4 years in which the GS was manufactured from 2010 to 2013, of the 50903 TOTAL Vettes Produced those 4 years, 31176 were GS (both convertible and couple) for a 61% production rate...hardly a rare car. 1:38 The GS does not come standard with a "hand built" LS3...only the manual transmission GS do, the automatics have the traditional LS3. 1:45 Any C6 LS3 outputs 436 HP with the optional dual mode NPP exhaust, other wise they are 430 HP.
I love 6 speeds!
Im glad you recognized the brake cooling by the grand sport shark fins.
Thanks for the video
Thanks Joe and Merry! Nothing like good old American made plastic super cars. There’s truly nothing like the fun you get from having an affordable big American V8 with a manual transmission even with the low grade interiors. Your wallet and fellow American workers would certainly thank you for not buying a Mexican-made German/Italian sportscar.
Fiberglass.
For not a lot of money, you do feel like a badass driving down the road in a Vette. Not that other cars aren't amazing in their own ways, but a Vette just feels like the genuine article...especially in a 6 speed.
Lol interior is subpar for 2012, but not 2006. Most cars in 2006 are plastic. GM just kept the same interior thenwhole gen
This is why you shouldn't wake up and immediately start drinking Whiskey.
By its name, Grand Sport, I always thought it to be a more comfy vehicle as compared to the others. 🤔
I know it's a Corvette heritage thing but they still should have called it something else.
I agree and it also sounds like a name for a big tour bus or something LOL.
I'm sorry but as a corvette tech I have to tell you the frame of the base c6 and grand sports are the same grand sport has wider body panels like z06 as well as some other Z06 perks like dry sump and so on but the Frame is the same. Base Z51 c6 has all the coolers but not a dry sump and also has brakes for track and suspension for track if you don't get the mag ride option. I could go on and on but just wanted to correct you on that.
Coupes., there's no dry sump system in the manual GS convertibles, just the coupes.
You should correct your false statement about frame width or take down this video.
Bad information - the Grand Sport has the same chassis as the base model (I own a 2012 GS)
That has been stated numerous times in this comment section
@@4drturbo85Unsurprising, given that it was an obvious error.
At 1:36, you state, "hand built LS3". I think the LS7 in the C6 Z06 is hand built. And also perhaps the LS9 in the C6 ZR1 is hand built. But I do not think that the LS3 is hand built. Where did that info come from? I'm curious.
Manual GS came with hand built LS3.. google it, it will show up on Chevy/GM website
@@jaybezzy823 Wow I did not know that. Very interesting.
@@jaybezzy823 but not in the manual GS convertible .
@@danielfair4675 hand built only in the manual transmission cars.
@@jaybarr8098 the GS convertible manual LS3 isnt hand built, no dry sump in them.
What did it sell for ?
Millions!! As we know vets are very rare!!
Does the auto version have launch control?
No launch control in the A/T...however the A/T is more forgiving than the manual so maybe it's not as important.
@@everycarSeattle Thanks :)
Is there a track on the Big Island? The speed limit on the islands are really low, kind of a shame to get a high hp car there.
No track (yet) but the roads in the middle of the island are some of the most exciting roads to drive fast on in the country.
I have a 2913 grand sport convertible with automatic paddle shift transmission and love it. I’ll never sell that car.
So you must be over 900 years old in the future. Nice!
Is it much firmer than the regular Corvette ??
Not really. All Corvettes are a tiny bit "floaty," it's just in their nature. Overall, I think it's a fun daily driver. Really fun, in fact
@@everycarSeattle the magnetic ride shocks gives you the best of both, comfort and firm ride.
I have a 2012 GS convertible. I have an automatic tho. Paddles tho!
Awesome car, you have great taste Jacob... I just added my most comprehensive video yet of my top 25 sports cars of all time...take a look: ua-cam.com/video/bp7ISIkSMuk/v-deo.html
This guy is a typical salesman has no clue
Yes...a real rube
Wow, do your research next time. Same frame.., these panels will bolt right on to a regular C6.
This is from Road & Track: The Grand Sport's powertrain is exactly the same as the base car's, but for a mere $6400 extra you get a lot of wider stuff-wider Goodyear F1 Supercar tires, a wider, more flared and chiseled body and a wider steel frame.
This is from Chevrolet themselves: The new Grand Sport model combines the Corvette's LS3-based powertrain with unique, wide-body styling and a racetrack-bred suspension for a distinctive, starting grid-ready performer...The complete list of content and special features for the Grand Sport includes
* Wider front and rear fenders - including specific front fenders with integrated Grand Sport badges
The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney right, body panels, but the frame is exactly the same.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Why not wear your seat belt ?????
You think this could take the G37?
On the low end, the Vette is a beast, in the mid-range the Infiniti pulls ahead...but the Vette probably wins in the end. I have a good story about racing a Vette in my old G35 twin turbo, but I'm not going to tell it here since the Bellevue Police probably still haven't closed that one out.
@@everycarSeattle ah I see
@@palerider4629 Nah that vette weighs less and comes with upwards of 100 more hp. That g37 isn't keeping up any time.
I had a g37 they arnt that fast, I’ve also owned a c6 our adrenaline and eat faster. This is common knowledge
Funny, I sold our G37 vert for a C6 GS vert as did the previous owner of the same G37. G37=Gateway drug? C6 has 100more hp and 1k less pounds
I have a 2012 Grand Sport 6 speed automatic with a dry-sump oil.
What an awesome car Frank...one of the most visceral and fun to drive cars that a normal person can afford. 30 years from now I'll bet they are worth more than the generation that succeeded them
@@everycarSeattle I was told when I bought it that it had a dry-sump oil but the video said it only came with a manual transmission and I have an automatic
@@frankfazio4979 only 6 speeds came with the dry sump new, but perhaps the original owner did an engine swap...wouldn't be the first time
@@everycarSeattle Maybe, It really doesn't matter I don't track the car anyways.
Auto = NO dry sump
ITs actually slower
WOW where can I get drilled and cross drilled rotors. Nice fucking face bro.
Can't watch vid his voice drives me crazy🤔needs more BASS 🖐️
...... and for anyone who's owned a GS, the Goodyear run-flats are crappy tires 🙂.
You should stop doing reviews! Your telling possibly impressionable first time buyers a bunch of crap. “When the car takes a sharp corner the oil isn’t touching internal parts” basically what you were saying. Engines have oil pumps that pump oil through oil channels to all bearings and moving parts in the engine. So nothing is touching the oil in the oil pan.
I don't think you understand the principles of a dry sump...here's a link: focus on the part where the technician says the most important benefit of a dry sump engine is on the track so taking corners won't cause the engine to run dry which is why most track-focused cars use the technology: ua-cam.com/video/I0lfdUXqV2g/v-deo.html
Maybe you should add “ in my opinion” when you make statements like you made about a manual transmission being the only way to go. I for one totally disagree with you. A six speed auto with paddles will eat you alive.
Flappy paddle automatics will never be as fun as a 3 pedal car. Sorry.
@@4drturbo85 When you are 69 they really are more fun and functional. At least for this 69 yr old. When I was younger i would totally agree with you.
In the car world...YOURE A WANNA BEE..lololol.
