You might say it isn't critical but what basket are the planned top assembly. What size spiders and how many recommended. It's a 70mm aluminum 4 layer coil. How much linear throw might they end up with. I'm asking as I think I could manage purchasing 2 of these motors. Trust me I'd go full in with the top assemblies...but will figure that part out later when I could wing it. Hopefully they'll handle the 2k+ a piece I want to toss on them on every so often.
I think linear will be around 2 to 2.25" with an Xmech of over 3". I'll be using the 6 spoke Ti frame for the most part on the 12". Traditional 4 spoke Ti for the 10" and the original 6 spoke Ti frames for the 15" and 18". Spider pack will be our 2 layer with silicone laminate and 8 flat leads. Power handling should be in line with that and then later you can swap the motor to the larger 220mm version if you want greater performance.
Shoot...Wasn't thinking about changing motors. Didn't think the top plate and pole piece are the same between the 2 motors all else just way bigger. Bigger motor more powerhandling 🤔. How much this thing weight again?
40lbs = 640oz. Damn. Hey when the industry says 300-400oz are they really saying that's the weight of the ferrite used in the motor. ie motor weight minus the steel for the top plate, t-yolk etc?
@@MrHotcress Typically yes. "lesser" brands, will quote the total weight in ounces. When apples are compared to apples, so to speak... Telling the weight of just the ferrite is a round about way of letting you know how powerful it is. There are MANY other factors like voice coil size, weight and cooling devices or methods that contribute to power handling as well.

I’m so sorry for all these damn questions would a mega roll surround do well with an 12 spoke frame would it be able to move nearly as much compared to a ti frame (knowing it uses 10” spiders)? The coil won’t be hitting the bottom plate (big and strong motor) but would there be enough clearance for the cone to efficiently/ nearly max out? Thanks just trying to cut costs.
@@RobotUnderground Okay thank you for the response will take that into consideration. Is the surround for cosmetics you mean or the basket? Also get well soon man blessings to you.
@@maincharacter2677 Mega roll surround in that particular application is just for looks. Like when you use a short coil and the Ti frame. It's not needed, but it looks cool.
@@maincharacter2677 It still depends on your application sometimes long excursion is not really appropriate. Do you want to elaborate about what your application is?
