UA-cam Couple Sheds Light On Misconceptions Of Dating With Disabilities | TODAY
I just saw this for the first time. It warmed my heart so much. My husband and I went through the same type of things. He had spinal muscular atrophy and neurofibromatosis as well. We were older when we met and fell in love but we had a wonderful relationship for 18 years. We too had people thinking I was his nurse or his mother and it seemed medical people voiced this the most! It wasn't always easy, but it was always worth it. Sadly, my husband started having medical issues in 2007 and he passed away in 2009 but he will always live on in my heart.

He really DID lift a cup for the first time in years, thanks to Spinraza injections. It was really amazing to see.
But a lot of the other titles, yeah, they joke around a ton. I absolutely adore them, and them getting this far. They deserve every second of it. I can’t wait to watch them keep smashing barriers.
I think the joke in that title and similar ones is that Shane and Hannah jokingly wrote them as if they were clickbait titles, kinda like a parody of actual clickbait channels/sites. So while it is true, I think it also does show their sense of humour :)

This made me cry. I lost a cousin to this disease when she was a baby. Her sister suffers from this disease too but she is getting better. I adore their channel and it really restored hope for my cousin.
I met Shane and his father at a conference a couple of years ago. He is a phenomenonal person. He is highly intelligent with a tremendous sense of humor. His dad was very cool as well. Shane inspired me so much that i joined his Facebook page and then his youtube channel with Hannah. I have his first book and will be purchasing his new book as well. I love how positive he is!

I used to read Laughing At My Nightmare when I was on Tumblr. Shane is freaking hilarious and I'm glad he's doing well.
I absolutely love them!! They are so great...I have been watching their channel for the last few months and not only do their personalities constantly make me laugh, but they really spread a huge amount of awareness about living with a disability. They have really opened my eyes to the issues that we have really overlooked or confused in society. (Like the jerks who make parking a nightmare for them or the way people act like Shane is a kid.)....They are so refreshing in this often negative world. Must watch I say! ❤️

Shane is hilarious and Hannah is so sweet. I love watching them. I only found the channel a few weeks ago but watch it daily.
urmaker They are fake. Google “people assume my girlfriend is my caregiver”, Shane had 3 previous girls all back to back that have played the same role: attached to book deals/handouts/donations and all were willing to share their personal life with the public. Coincidence? I think not.
No they were his ex’s. Shane has stated that he had previously dated and been with other girls before meeting Hannah. The rumours about them being fake were started by pathetic mindless idiots as a way of throwing their anger, frustration and jealousy at him for having something which they do not have.
I love this feature so much. They are really great people, and it's nice to just see some happy..

Just by being the people you are it does “normalize” able bodied and disabled body relationships. The exposure on UA-cam about your day to day relationship is a visual for daily tasks and general sharing between yourselves. Basically it presents a clearer picture and helps opens up the minds of people for understanding couples come in all shapes and sizes. Real love has no barriers only finding ways to best overcome any obstacles or problems and challenges life brings in a daily basis. And, that is what true loving relationships deal with in reality of life. Thank you for caring enough to help educate us about such an important matter👏🏼💫

I think you guys are awesome!! What I see are two beautiful people with great attitudes and senses of humor!! I'm happy for both of you. Thank you for sharing your life with others to de-stigmatize disability AND caregiving. I've worked with people with disabilities for years as a nurse and I try to imagine people are just ignorant and not intentionally rude. You are providing education and hope, keep up the good work!!

Just stumbled on your videos, clearly got American idol auditions mixed up with Shane's short segment of "singing" :) So many thoughts came to mind as I binge watched your story. For you both, it seems like a step up from "traditional" dating. I can't really decide who here is luckier. You know how the "gift giver" becomes the one who truly receives the most, however, both of you seem to be equally engaged and genuinely thankful for one another. Maybe THAT's what love is. It certainly isn't what most people look for and what most can't look beyond to find. I have stayed single now for 12 years due to the lack of quality in the human race. Thank you both for sharing such quality with all of us. Love your story and message of normalcy and happiness coming in all packages :)
The most important thing I got from this is that she really loves and cares for him. She is a special lady and they both are happy. With Shane's personality, he could have attracted anyone and experienced love like anyone else.
I feel what Shane goes through, when I was married, my wife was almost 6ft and I am 5'1, people were so rude even mean, they would stair and laugh. It sometimes hurt, but I still loved her and she loved me, so moral of the story, you were put on this earth to live your life not anyone else's. And trust me on this one, If you look deeper then what the person looks like on the outside, you have found true love!

I remember I had a little chat with myself while driving to our wedding. I said, “Self, can you imagine happily spending every day of the rest of your life with this man? Do you see him being a good father to your kids? It was a resounding ‘yes’. It was so clear to me that all of the other obstacles that had tried to split us apart up to that day didn’t even matter anymore. Imagining my life without him, even just for a day, put everything into perspective.♥️

@@xmuta I don't laugh at him at all, I laugh with him. In all of their videos, Shane and Hannah invite us in, and then proceeded to laugh with us at their situation. All the finger pointing is done by Shane, and he is the one making the jokes and giving us permission to laugh at them.

I am legally blind. I use a guide dog. My personal phrase is normal is a setting on the dryer. That is kind of how we all believe. We are just people, we just have to do things slightly differently.

What disturbs me about this couple is the hypocritical sneaky way they try to come across as innocent and genuine but are relentlessly always playing pity so people will send them money and in every video is always about begging for money. I don't care about their personal relationship but I don't like scammers and beggars.

They had a quarantine zoom wedding in September 2020, and they'll have the big family wedding (she has the dress) when everyone can come together.
They are still deciding on that, I believe. I really have my heart set on them showing their wedding to a crowd on a big screen, and then the "movie" ends and they come walking into to their reception, Hannah wearing the wedding dress she planned and Shane, IDK. Or they are secretly in the back, shrouded in darkness and then the light comes on and surprise, and they walk/wheel into the crowd.

Society puts so much focus on fighting against sexism and racism while ableism, obviously meaning discrimination against the disabled, is overlooked and for someone with a disability, like myself, it is frustrating.

@@DarkLinkAD But the strife doesn't need to be there. Sure, you can't change everyone's mind but at the end of the day, the people that choose to further stigmatize disability are making that choice. They're choosing to not educate themselves. Worrying about the stigma doesn't do anything, but not doing anything to try and educate the few that aren't set in their misconceptions does even less.
Does she have a sister lol. I am in a wheelchair spinal cord injury. But all joking aside it's great, He is an intelligent and funny guy that pushes himself. She shows that her beauty runs all the way through her heart and soul. To see past his sickness. That may not allow his body to be what others are capable. She sees his inner worth and in so shows her inner worth. I pray they have many years of love, joy and success in all they pursue in life. God bless both these amazing people.

Some people don't see a problem in passing someone a glass of water or cutting up their food, or helping them put their pants on. My partner pays someone else to do a chunk of it and all I really have to do is pass some things to him and help him turn in bed every few hours. Oh, what a tragic price to pay for being with the person I love. Makes such a huge difference. *rolls eyes into oblivion*

I have dated several people with disabilities, and it can be difficult to deal with other peoples comments, eye rolls, etc. So many misconceptions!
