Legs For this Desk www.vandykes.c...
Hi Everyone, I hope you enjoy this step-by-step woodworking lesson that will result in a beautiful home office writing desk.
I’ve simplified this project by building the desk with mostly pocket hole joinery.
In this episode we build the apron, attach the apron to the legs, build and install the drawer runners and then build the drawers. I hope you enjoyed this video as much as I did building the desk. If you build this desk or any of my projects please share them on Instagram and tag #jonpeters I’d love to see what you made.
Thanks for watching, Jon

Not sure how so many people can watch this man do his "magic" with wood, and not click the like button?!?!?
Many thanks for such a clear demonstration of the runners and kickers on the drawers (as well as your entire explanation all along the way). Establishing the lower reveal on the drawer front with a slightly proud drawer runner is genius.
I want you to know that you’ve inspired me to build furniture. You have a way to explain things that are easy to understand. I’ve made several pieces of yours. I’m in the process of building a shop at the house so I can really get to building. Thank you for all your videos. Take care!
Thanks Jamie, that’s really nice to hear
Desk turned out great. Those are probably the sturdiest desk drawers I've ever seen
Clean, classic style and design! If ‘This Old House’ was to ever make a comeback of the original style of the show…..I’d recommend Jon to headline the craftsman position. Great work as always!
Joe
Thanks Joe!
Love ur workmanship
Thank you!
That continuous grain makes all the difference. Beautiful desk though. As always inspiring.
Thanks!
Love the Tip for the brace when doing Pocket holes..
So many great tips in this video, Jon! Those little spacer blocks for lining up the drawer sides seems so obvious, but I had never thought of it before!
Thanks Art! They really do do a great job of keeping the board from moving and add a lot of strength… Tied to the back of the face frame and the leg with a big glue joint.
Very good, Peters. Adoro seus trabalhos.
Thanks!
That is a really stylish and classic piece of furniture, I bet it will be enjoyed for many years 👏😀👍
Hi Mr. Jon
At 18:30 minutes, I noticed how you used a block of wood to help drill the pocket holes in the rails. That was a pretty cool way to do that. Maybe you could do a short video showing how you come up with that idea.
Thanks Mr. Jon
Thanks Timothy, good idea… I’ll try to shoot one soon. 👍
Simple construction. Elegant result. Thanks Jon.
great to see professional work! thanks from Russia!
Thank you
Nice table, Jon. I learned a long time ago that the order of operations is just as important as the design and technique used. You definitely showed that.
Bill
Thanks Bill

I really enjoy your videos. You have a clear and concise way of presenting these projects that makes them much less intimidating. I like that you use tools that most novice to intermediate woodworkers would have. Seems it's difficult to find a channel these days that's not using Dominos for every project. Don't get me wrong, I would love to own one, but I just can't justify the cost at the level I'm at at this point. I love that you use pocket holes when many seem to look down upon them. Really good stuff. Thanks for putting these together.
Very creative. Artistcal workmanship Love the work which you inspire in creating.
Really fantastic work, Jon! Beautiful table! 😃
Thanks for all the tips!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you!
Wow! Brilliant work!! Such talent! 🫡
Thanks!
Incredible work. I admire how you have your tools so dialed in and exhibit confidence and command with them. You are not only inspiring new woodworkers but experienced ones as well. Your instructing is reminiscent of Norm Abram but more approachable. Great work!
Thanks Alex!
Thanks
Incredible result. Thank you

Classic looking desk Jon. I always love the natural tip with white combination.
Great video!! Easy to follow, no complicated joinery. I'm going to come back to it when I try my first table/coffee table/desk

What a lovely writing desk--that desk top is fantastic.
Thanks Ken, the reclaimed white oak is really special… nice to know it came from an old barn.
Beautiful desk Jon! Best of luck with the sales for the plans! 👍👍
Thanks Steve!

Very elegant. You make building it look so easy , Jon!

Great looking desk, Jon~! I really like the barn wood top and the base painted white was a really good choice.
Thanks Andrew

Thank you!
That looks great. Very nice work!
Thank you!
Love your work Jon..been following your channel many years..this video has inspired me to build a desk.Q: what type of wood did you use for the desk frame & if you were painting it , why would you still want continuous grain pattern..
Thanks in advance.
Great Job !!!!☺☺😊😊😊😊
Lookin good on. A lot of real nice & simple details. Enjoyable video & easy to follow steps. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!!
Thanks Brother!
Nice job!
I noticed a second table saw - not that that is so unusual in and of itself, many advanced woodworkers have two TSs - I'm just wondering why you switched to the other saw from your SawStop half way through the drawer construction? Seems like you could have done all of the drawer construction with the SS.
Thanks.
Beautiful work by the way. Love your channel.

Thanks Niles, I keep a flat ground tooth blade in the powermadic table saw… when I cut groves or rabbits I use the powermadic so I don’t have to change the blade.
I appreciate the craftsmanship, and ai know it’s heresy … but unless you’re keeping window sash weights in those drawers, pocket screws hold drawers together just fine. BTW it looks great … love the detail of the drawer pulls matching the top.
Thanks!
6:11 And makes sure - w/o having to measure - all legs are exactly the same on both sides in relation to the apron.
Would this work with a marble top?
What would you sale this for. I have a problem of underestimating my projects. 🇨🇦
What keeps the drawer gap even from side to side?
Jon, what size bit was used to make the bead molding?
Thanks Jon. Thumbs up. How do you clean the glue off your bar clamps? Nice knobs on the drawers.
Thanks Chuck!
What did you leave to the artists?
What color is that white?
White dove
Did I miss something? I don’t see how you made the legs
Legs were store bought. See description for purchase link. I was hoping Jon had made the legs himself as well.
👍👍👍🙏🇹🇷
How many teeth on the saw your using please
