I heard his two recitals at Ambassador auditorium in '76 and I remember seeing Chasins there.

His Kreisleriana is indeed one of the greatest piano recordings ever.

Ooh, such memories 😍 I had the surprise and joy of playing on a Hofmann Steinway at the Ethical Culture Society. What a wonder to play the Chopin 2nd Sonata. On this special action the Finale flew!

Listen to Chasins talk about Hofmann . Rach says in one of his letters that the only pianist who matters around is Hofmann . Rach was not kind to other pianists . Cortot meant little to Rach it makes one wonder now all the best pianist say Cortot is a miracle . Any musician would be elated to be in the same room with Horowitz ! I want to hear his live recital broadcasts !

Great surviving Wunderkind.....Shura Cherkassky, arguably Hofman's most original pupil.

Interesting VH didn't mention Hofmann's great child prodigy who survived his early brilliance and played many years.Abram C didn't mention Cherkassky who was a classmate with him at Curtis.....

Now we have Jay Z and Beyoncé. Isn’t progress wonderful?

No.Now we have Radu Lupu, Uchida , Pollini ,Pires , Katia Buniatishvili ,LangLang! Yuja Wang , and dozens of others who I think may not have the magic of Hofmann,Lhevinne ,Gabrilowitsch etc but remember classical music though everyone new opera tunes in the 1920's and 1930's wasstill not as successful or as well known as honkytonk and Gershwin,Lowe and lerner showtunes etc. It's always been the same . Pop music is popular and serious music is where it is .

Argerich, Volodos, Trifonov, Perahia, Engerer, Zimerman, Grimaud, Leonskaia ETC ETC ! Where did you get Beyonce and JayZ from ??????? It’s certainly a good thing that classical music doesn’t have the same popular status as pop music : let’s concentrate on music with all its heights and spirituality and for a while forget about show-business !

Jays us, Chasins isn’t just kissing Horowitz’s you-know-what, he’s climbing inside it!! It always makes me wonder in these older interviews, if this ridiculous, fawning obsequiousness was necessary for the relationship to continue-if it was the basis for the “friendship”-or if it was only necessary that Chasins behave this way _publicly_ to Horowitz. Whatever the answer is, I can’t listen to it any more....that kind of crap makes me nauseous.

Chasins is basically interviewing himself with Horowitz assisting. What a pompous ass. He thinks he's more interesting than Horowitz. I stopped listening after 10 minutes.
