Considering how wide & tall my deodora has grown in last 5 years here in zone 9a I wonder if you realize how close you have planted your trees. Do you plan to relocate any or are they permanent now? I only have the one but it grew from 3' tall and 2" wide to 14' tall and 8' wide in only 5 years! I have seen them grown to over 80' tall and 30' wide in PNW over 50 years time. Certainly not an ornamental but good as a specimen far from buildings.
Good observation! In general everything in my collection is planted too close together by horticultural standards. However, i am not really planting for aesthetics, but more for height and density. Primarily it is a privacy screen, and i only have such crazy variety for the purpose of building resiliancy into the screen.
For the Karl Fuchs did you ever use any vertical / upright keeping staking? Also didn’t know in hard winters if the tips yellowed.. and if they rebounded?
I did not need to stake mine because they were already 3 feet tall. They grow with a drooping leader that will naturally straighten up on its own. When they are putting out new growth they look floppy, but as the growing season progresses i am always satisfied with their perfect verticality.
It is a fast growing giant tree. Mine is now over 18 feet tall. It was 4 feet 7 years ago. LOL
I am in Zone 9 in Southern California and have 4 Deodar's that are growing quite fast. We are very happy.
Great! Ideal climate for deodar in SoCal !

Thanks for posting. Are you in the 7a hardiness zone? how long did the first deodar cedar in the video take to grow from 3ft to 7ft?
Yes, zone 7a. It took 2 years to add those 5 feet of vertical, so they grow pretty quickly!
Grow well in South New Jersey one at work is over 30 feet tall grew, about 20 feet in about 10 years watch out for bagworms
My Karl Fuchs is bushier.
