I found the gaping, .054.
I have a cylinder 3 miss fire on my mustang and I was wondering which side I should replace the spark plug.
you should replace all, (unless you have brand new plugs and one is faulty) and the wires.
When you had the misfire did it make a knocking noise?
you should really get those plugs tightened to torque spec
The passenger side has a air conditioning pipe right in front of the last two plugs , a literal nightmare . Have yet to get the last two changed out . Will try with an extension .
I have an 2000 ranger with a 4L engine. I am trying to remove/change the plugs but cannot loosen the plugs! Can I use a air wrench to help? Thanks for your help.

How do you know which plug wires go where especially when connecting them to the coil pack?
sort them by length, and match an old one to new one, replace them one at a time

Number depends on your engine, this car has 6. Yes, you want to change all of them when you do a spark plug change.

one at a time. take your new wires, lay them all out in order of length, then on the car, unplug the shortest wire and then replace it with the shortest new wire and so on.

What about the wires
The engine has to be completely cool before changing the spark plugs. Depending the block is, is either steel or aluminum.
A spark plug socket is important! amzn.to/1XVrkhB or use the smush electrical tape in the end of a socket method!
Couple questions: 1) Why not just use the spark plug socket all the way, instead of switching to a regular socket? 2) I am having trouble getting my number 3 boot off (passenger back). Can't get a good grip and angle to pull it off. Any suggestions for a tool or technique? Thanks!
1) The spark plug socket has a rubber grommet in it, depending on the quality of the socket, when you insert a plug the whole way, then you try and remove the socket, you will unsnap it from the extension and leave the socket stuck to the plug or leave the grommet stuck to the plug. 2) I've used long nose needle nose pliers in situations like that. You have to be careful to not damage the boot. Use as little force as possible!... hope that helps, good luck!
You probably already learned by now since it’s been 6yrs. Use a multi directional joint with your extension and use electrical tape to tape up the spark plug socket to avoid getting your socket stuck. This will save you from countless🤬 and stress in all your spark plug changes in every car .

Thats what's wrong with mine...presumably. i changed the air filter yesterday but the motor was too hot for plugs

What was wrong with your idle? I just changed mine tonight and it was so tough cuz I didn't have the extensions and it was dark so I had to use a flashlight in one hand....
I believe I fixed my idle issue too....I was going into mode 6 and finding a very small percentage of misfires...not enough to set a code....I was having a slight miss at idle and it sounded like a thump in the exhaust and it shook my seat a little....haven't really felt that since changing them out...
its i find its pretty hard to get to the 5th, 6th cylinder plugs becuase its such a confined space. any tips?

Easily on the driver's side? Without removing the vacuum braking booster and master cylinder to reach the back plug, even the middle plug? Even touching the back plug at all with fingers is nigh impossible. But reinstalling these plugs without getting them cross-threaded will take finger feel to get them started unless you are I guess super experienced. I think that is worth considering for someone attempting this.
My car sounds like its about to stall when idle it keeps shaking the car but not too much. and its put put when I accelerate. could it be the spark plugs that's not working because they are fairly old...just trying to save myself 215 dollars for a tune up...midus said it needed a tune up which was spark plugs and thes wires...
Hey I am about to do my '99 V6 Stang. What exact plugs would you recommend? Also, most plus seem to be gap at .052 or .060. I think the Stang is suppose to be at .054. does that little bit of difference matter? Thx!

Do you feel using a torque wrench is appropriate for installing the new plug? If so, what is the desired torque?
+Garden RR google plug torque specs, you need to find the specs specific to the engine of your car. you will need a low range torque wrench that will get down to 5 lbs for some cars. I don't use a torque wrench on most cars, just snug them up, you really should do proper torque. On my Porsche and Land Rover, I use a torque wrench, I have all the torque specs for most every nut and bolt in my workshop manuals, and a low range wrench. On my old Hondas, this mustang, I don't bother, I guess I'm not concerned I just snug them up, maybe that is the wrong attitude.

On my ‘94 had to put the 5/8” socket on the #3 plug by hand and used a 3/4” open box wrench to pry the plug loose lol. Tried to use your universal method but just could not wiggle it into place. Total PITA lmao.

I have neglected the replacement of my thermostat due to the ridiculous thermostat housing position on my 2000 mustang v6...I have researched this substantially hoping to find someone who lists the tools and extensions like you do here but have never found one. No video yet that has shown the same car and obstacles I am faced with when I lift the hood!! If you or someone you know has insight on the 2000 mustand I'd love to head some wisdom!!!!!

Thermostat isn't bad, it's best to have a 1/4 in ratchet, long extension, and universal joint. It's 8mm. Take the radiator pipe off and you can access the bolt. You will have a straight shot on the left on, the right one, come at it from below the right side of the bolt.
Radiator pipe? You mean that brass-looking pipe in front of the thermo. housing? Or are you talking about the upper radiator hose?
How in the bloody hell do you put the boot back on the 2 back spark plugs on the passenger side, my hand cant fit through there
I changed all of the spark plugs and when I start the car it starts fine but there is a little smoke coming from one of the spark plugs and when I turn the car off there is a sort of sparking/arcing sound coming from the engine....not sure where I went wrong
you may have not fully seated one of the plug wires, or the boot on the plug wire may be cracked, worn or damaged in some way.

Just stop at a mechanic shop and ask if they can check the spark plug wires to make sure there in the right sequence, or Google your specific year mustang for the spark plug wire diagram

What do you mean by "housing"?

so my check engine light came on my 03 mustang v6 and the codes are p0316 and p0306 with this do i have to replace my wires as well as my spark plug
could be a bad plug on cylinder 6, try swapping out that plug with another cylinder and see if the misfire moves to the swapped out cylinder. if it doesn't move, chances are bad wire.

look for disconnected wires! make sure the plug wires are plugged in properly.
Coil packs are bad or you may have crossed the wires

If I had "stuck" plugs I may use some penetrating oil and/or gently use a manual impact driver like this: amzn.to/2dqVRVv .... baby taps! A manual impact has saved my skin many times when I've had stuck bolts and screws that I didn't want / couldn't use a real impact.. (Commissions earned on Amazon link)
You don't want to put serious leverage and torque on the plugs...

+ZipZapDIY do you remember the brand? just bought my car this month and changed the plugs today but the gapping were both 44 and 52. I bought Motorcraft plugs gapped at 40 but now it sounds like the engine is mis firing.
