Man you fixed my stuff!! I was missing the bushing on the inside of the impeller and didn't know it! I checked it out and made a replacement. Low and behold it worked! Thanks a million!
I was very happy with the performance of this filter (non uv model) my Ehiem crapped out after many years and i couldnt get it to work properly so i needed a new filter asap, ordered off amazon and again, very happy. My only gripe is its rather noisy, its not horrible, but compared to the ehiem and rina filstars, it is. The impeller trick reduced it to a more reasonable level. I had it perfect but transporting it over to the tank after a cleaning made it a bit loose. For the price, you get a bit on the flimsy side of plastics but otherwise its well worth the money.
Super helpful! It was the impeller causing all the racket in my freshly unboxed Aquatop. I discovered it didn't come with the rubber tip needed to stabilize the impeller's rod, but luckily the same tip from my recently deceased Eheim fit in there. Magic!

I applied your technique to my sunsun hbl 803 and now it doesn't make those annoying bubbling noise in the outlet pipe again. Really really great video
Been running my 704B for about a half year in an overstocked over filtered 37 gal tank full of Rusty Cichlids. Initially it became noisy after a few days and it took me a while to figure out that pre-filter blockage on the intake was the culprit. Had to buy a larger coarser pre-filter and squeeze it out when it becomes full - no noise no problem. After watching your videos I bought my Sun Sun on sale for $69. Love this quiet powerful monster. For only $300 more I could have bought a Fluval FX6 ;-{) BTW - UA-cam stopped email notifications for all my subscribed channels including yours. One UA-camr wrote that UA-cam no longer notifies his subscribers by email.
Great video!!!!Giving the impeller a good clean then adding some pure petroleum jelly (Vaseline) On the shaft, impeller and a bit in the housing also helps a lot it also prolongs the life of the impeller and the life of the canister
Good tips. I have a Penn Plax Cascade with a rattling impeller and already did all your tips. However, I think the impeller shaft needs a spacer/washer to center it vertically. I'm gonna try it.
I ran a 704b for a couple of years. Powerful filter. I did have issues with noise at 1st. I rubbed the impeller magnet with silicone grease. It worked until the filter got broken in and it became very quite. The problem is the UV light design is terrible. When I cleaned the filter there would be water in the glass housing that is supposed to keep the bulb dry. I tried to seal it by rubbing silicone grease on the o ring seal. Didn’t work. Finally the water corroded the electrical connection. I retired the filter. I still have it as a backup in case of emergency. If SunSun would release a version of this filter I would buy it. The UV light is to small anyway for a large filter like the 704 b
I wonder if a bit of plumbers tape would help seal off that light? I only ran the UV on weekends and never relied on it for anything more that water clarification (i e not for killing virus etc)
I had a high pitched whining noise coming from my daughter's brand new Polar Aurora 525 gallon canister filter after setup after a few hours. Shaking and tipping it (releasing air) would fix it for an hour then the high pitched whining noise would return. Turns out the outflow nozzle tube was too restrictive and causing back-pressure on the pump. Drilling out the holes to a larger size (increasing flow) eliminated the noise permanently.

Ben, I have a question. I'm about to purchase a Oase biomaster thermo 250 canister filter for my 40 gal. freshwater aquarium. However, I've read comments from people that own them. They all complain about "burping," releasing air bubbles into the aquarium, and/or has low flow rates. I would like to know if its possible to replace the impeller that will come with the filter, that I'm planning to buy, with a bigger impeller? Would that fix the problem?
