thank you so much for this video ! I laughed so hard because I am going through the same stages of fear and anxiety you experienced, I just started my furniture store...your video answered all my questions and gave me confidence.
Thank you. I am still intimidated to ship and yet I know I need to to get to my true market. I'm stuck at the researching stage. Any recommendations for bigger furniture? My fear is what to do if a piece arrives damaged.
I completely understand! It’s scary taking that step. For bigger pieces I have used Uship. It is a platform which connects people who do shipping with people who need things shipped. It is mostly white glove delivery meaning you don’t have to wrap it or box it. The shipper takes care of wrapping it up and getting it on and then off their truck. I have also shipped using FedEx freight and put a piece of furniture on a pallet. Always make sure the shipper has insurance in case anything is damaged in transit. There is always the possibility of damage but I’ve never had that happen.
I don't have a box guy😂 where do i find boxes big enough to fit nightstands and end tables? And when trying to figure out sixe of box ill need? I know the measurements of my piece, but how do I determine the extra inches ill need after I have it blanket wrapped and everything else?
Try a local appliance store and see if they have big boxes you can have. Or ask the manager at a local home improvement store if they have bigger boxes they are discarding. You could also try a local moving company and ask if they’d sell you some boxes. Uhaul places often sell wardrobe and other bigger size boxes. You could even try fb marketplace. People who have just moved often have bigger boxes and they’d rather someone come and get them than try to figure out what to do with them. You can wrap your piece up and then measure it. Or just add a couple inches all around to the measurement of your piece to allow for wrapping and stuffing. The goal is to have the smallest box possible while still making sure your item is safe and secure. I almost always cut down a bigger box. Hope that helps
You can do it. I once said I would never ship furniture. I had a business mentor who told me I was not going to grow my business to its full potential if I didn’t offer shipping. I now I’ve shipped pieces large and small from East coast to West and places in between. If I can do it you can too!!
I've always wanted to try this!! What do you do when it's a big buffet???? FedEx picks that up? Have you ever done USHIP? Girl you have given me HOPE!!! Thank YOU!!
I use uship all the time. When I need to ship a bigger piece I use uship to find a delivery person. I have also shipped on a pallet using fedex freight and that wasn’t as hard as I thought.
Excellent info, I completely understand your anxiety level for shipping for the first time, it is exactly how I feel. Side note and your dog, reminds me of a Rotty I named Boss, that I rescued from the dog pound. I didn't know at the time that he was deaf. I taught him sign language, he was such a good, loving boy. He minded well but only if he was looking at me lol. I miss him so much. Your valuable info and your boy lets me know I am subbing to an awesome channel.
FedEx freight is a very different process than shipping regular FedEx home delivery. I have shipped FedEx freight and it was definitely more work because shipping freight requires the item to be put on a pallet. I use a company called Freight Buddy to help me facilitate the logistics and coordinate with FedEx. I did my own packing and palleting though.
Most informative video! Thank you! I recently started an etsy shop and have no idea how to plug the info in the shipping area? Its only giving options for USPS shipping! Also how do people offer free shipping for thier large items? I feel like I cant compare!! So nervous to even start!!
Nouran Ekkawi don’t be nervous. Everybody starts at the beginning. When I offer free shipping for large items I am including what I think the shipping will be into my price. For example- I’m selling a dresser. I want to get $450 for the dresser. Instead of listing it as $450 with a $300 shipping fee I just price it at $750 and offer “free shipping”. That’s hard to do in the beginning because you don’t have a good idea of what shipping costs are. As you ship more and more items you’ll have a really good idea of what it costs to ship things and you can roll those costs into your price and then offer free shipping.
Everything I used is available at any big box home improvement store or shipping supply store. I buy my boxes from a local guy who sells shipping supplies. The plastic roll, tape and pipe insulation are all available at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Moving blankets you can get on Amazon or Harbor Freight.
Girl! Awesome video. You’re preaching to the choir. I Owen a furniture store and due to all the changes I’ve begin looking into how can ⓘ reach my customers in ⓐ different way. Shipping cost blows my mind!! 🤯 (You gave me hope). would you be interested in talking about how you work cost of shipping and goods together so that it’s still profitable for both the buyer and the seller? Thank you!
The reality is shipping is expensive. I’d be happy to answer questions or discuss with you my practices for shipping. You can shoot me an email at junkdupfurniture@gmail.com or message me through my Facebook biz page.
Hi! Thank you for that awesome and encouraging video, I’m going through the feelings you explained in this video, I’ve got a wood bedside sleeper just for local pick up on eBay, but someone emailed me asking for shipping costs, I’d like to do this, but how can I give a price without doing the packaging process and finally weight in case she says .. no it’s too expensive. Hope I’ve explained myself well, please help
Doris Jayo weigh the item on its own. Add weight to that number to estimate for packaging material and box. Go to fedex website and create a free account if you don’t already have one. Then go to create a shipment. You’ll need her address, the weight (which you are estimating based on the actual weight of the item plus estimate for packaging material and box), and dimensions. Measure the item then add a couple inches to each measurement (length, width and height) to account for packaging material. Once you input the customer address, the weight and the dimensions, FedEx will calculate the shipping charges. You can then give that to your buyer. Don’t forget to add $ to the actual shipping charges if you need to buy a box, packing materials or moving blankets. For bigger items that I can’t box up (dresser, armoire, etc.) I use an app called Uship which connects independent delivery companies with people like us needing delivery and shipping services. Hope that helps. It’s a lot of trial and error in the beginning.
I don’t sell on eBay but you can use the Uship app to find a delivery person for anything no matter why you need your item shipped. It’s an independent app and anybody can use it. It’s not just for resellers. Just keep in mind- shipping is expensive these days no matter if you ship through USPS, FedEx, UPS or, for large items such as furniture, through an independent delivery company found on uship. Lots of furniture folks are always complaining about the cost of shipping. No point in complaining bc it’s not going to change. Just know your facts and figures and build cost of shipping into your business.
Oh. My. Goodness. I feel so much less alone now!! Thank you so much!!
I LOVE Your attitude!!! My mom passed away and I’m shipping a few things from Texas to Illinois…you’ve definitely given me confidence to do it.
You can do it!

You can do it! Honestly- if tons of other people can ship furniture all over there’s no reason you can’t too!! 😘
*Piping Insulation* Genius! That's the solution I've been looking for. Thanks.
Awww thank you for this tutorial B.J.

Any advice for a rocking chair??? Its my first piece of furniture and I got the sweaty palms!! 😂
can they ship furniture internationally? i'm from the caribbean and want to ship to the U.S.
I’m sorry I don’t know the answer to that. I only have experience shipping furniture within the US.
What’s the best way to ship from Europe?
I would have no idea. I’m not familiar with European shipping companies. I’m sorry I am of no help on this one.
