I tried Sohan for the first time ever about 2 weeks ago, and i have been craving it ever since.. Its extremely delicious.. When you look at it, you would think that its just another overly sweet candy from the middle east, but thats absolutely not the case. It has a very special deep kind of flavor.. Its hard to describe, but the flavor is deep in the same kind of way that a croissant is.. Its like a mixture between semi burned sugar, baked butter, and risotto.. although this is not an exact description of the taste, and it might sound a bit off putting, be aware that this stuff is absolutely heavenly.
Had it 4 yrs ago. N I'm still trying to find the recipe. Idk what ppl say about addiction if they've never tried this! All it takes is 1 time!

As an Armenian whose ancestors have lived in Iran for hundreds of years, I can honestly say that Iranians make the most delicious candy & the best food in the world. The ONLY other culture that cooks as well are the Italians. I cook Iranian food every day for my children & they love it! Thats why they aren’t fat like American children!

Shah Abbas lived about 400 years ago, not 150. The process of making sohan can easily be automated. Keep the background music low.
Once its automated it loses the love. Technique matters.

When my family in Iran sends me a care package, it always has a tin of sohan in it. It's my favorite! I still feel like a happy little fat kid when I crack open that tin and bite into a nice big piece. It tastes like childhood to me.

Its definitely IRANIAN. The people who make and brought it to India are Parsi (Iranian-Indians), after it got popular in Iran.
Another thing is that Indian Sohan Halwa is VERY different in ingredients and texture. Iranian Sohan is hard like toffee, and is like candy, while Indian Sohan is like a cake. Rosewater is also very popular in India, but WE ALL KNOW IT CAME FROM IRAN, same thing!
Definitely NOT my favorite sweet.
