Just got done cleaning up 20 acres of cut over with a 400hp mulcher putting it back into pasture. awesome machines. Beats the hell out of a dozer if you are NOT moving any dirt. Zero burn piles and just clean cleared ground left in its wake. Great video showcasing what to mulcher head can do! Enjoy!

Oh man...that JD 333G skid steer with the Baumalight killer mulcher is just the ticket for making new trails. So much fun watching. And some in front of the camera for the bro. I have a JD 835i S4 Gator and I knew there was no way yours was stuck. I have gotten out of a lot worse. Thanks for sharing. This may be mainly a tractor channel but it's fun to watch any piece of equipment in action.
Haha, spot on. It's like child proofing your house when your kids are little. I'm out here trying to clear out any possible way for this Gator to get into trouble. "Gator-proofing"
Just got home from hand brushing about a half mile of trail on my property. A brush hog or flail mower for my tractor is next on my list. I'm seriously envious of you being able to get that skid steer and mulcher to your property. It makes such short work of opening up trails. Great video as always.

About all I can say is Wow. I grew up north of Traverse City on Grand Traverse bay and watching you go through all those vines and brush made me think of ruffled grouse hunting and how they love that kind of terrain.
Hey Courtney, we moved up to Hancock, New York permanently in June ,2021 I have 5.3 acres of Land ,little hill ,not bad purchased a Kubota BX , that didn’t cut it so I went up to a TYM 474 with a cab & back hoe, we just have to deal with a little cooler weather than normal up here. We are actually 4 miles up a mountain gravel road , I say good morning to my wife God & the animals that’s it!
Once again, dang it! I want that set up!!!! Very very cool! Get that and a Harley rake along with that skid steer, you got a great start to a business there! Retirement options 🤔!
Haha, I know. Part of the problem is this diesel is just so sluggish. It sounds like it's revving at full RPM's and the tires just barely start moving. However, the Gator is growing on me. Very handy navigating the property.
@@GoodWorksTractors I think it'd be nice for rides and what not around the property and hunting, especially when it's cold. Does baumalight make a mulcher for a 1025r? I looked at their website but wasn't sure if those were pto or engine hp numbers?
I like the views from the operator seat, It gives a totally new perspective to what you're doing out there. Not that the camera does justice to it, but it gives an idea as to what kind of visibility you would actually have with that (or any) attachment on. "tales from the seat"
As the camera operator, it also gives me a lot of respect for Courtney's nimbleness and awareness in that machine. It's like he's got eyes on the outside of the skidsteer!
Cortney, I need to borrow that set up for about 30 to 45 minutes to make a couple of trails for my golf cart. I'll even buy lunch. I think I'm about a 14 hr drive from you. Think we can make that work?🤣🤣
Great video Courtney!. As always fun and informative. More great stuff from gwt. As stated by others here great morning routine. Have a great day and be safe guys!. Tim
I have 155 acres to maintain and I do that with my Ventrac. when it comes to large trees. It is chainsaw time and I move them out of the way with my grapple bucket.. This works as well.
We bought 40 acres of dense trees and overgrown bush this summer. A big mulcher on the end of an excavator was used to make a 1/4 mile long "driveway" and a 1.5 acre clearing near the shore. Amazing machine! Now we have to deal with a lot of hanging blowdowns (widow makers) throughout the rest of the property left from Hurricane Dorian. These are really BIG old bitch trees. I'm not sure what to use for them.
I would put a lift kit on the gator and better tires more suited for off road and mud. After clearing trails through property I would cut a ten foot wide path along the fence line to make maintaining property line easier. after that make a long term plan of what you want to do with the property. livestock, gardening, general farm planning, and areas for wild game feed plots.
Courtney, it might be good to flag some saplings for transplanting around the house once you're at that point. You could show a tree spade attachment in action for a future video.
Expecting to see the Skidsteer driver wear a cowboy stetson and swing it over his head yelling Ya-Ho while mulching. Great fun going through the forest trail blazing.
Really a big help. Just purchased a large farm and need to establish trails/access to all parts of the property. Just wondering where to find a vendor and how much it costs per day? Tks for sharing. Enjoying the channel.
My neighbor just hired a land clearing company to restore his pastures that had gotten overgrown with Multiflora Rose and Russian Olive, each over 6' high. I loved watching the mulcher work, except when they hit the ever-present rocks. But in the field next to mine I noticed they stopped halfway through. I asked him why and he replied, "We ran out of money. $2800.00 a day for that machine!"
That is a pretty steep price. We are clearing invasive species and creating trails on our 160 acre property. We hired a guy who has a similar skid steer-mulcher (fecon) set up and he is approximately $1200/8 hour of work. He can clear in one day what it would have taken me 10 days to do with a chain saw and brush hog. We found him by calling up Fecon (the company that makes his mulcher) and getting names of operators in our area-do the same for your area.
This is tough flail mower or mulcher. I've got probably at least 50 acre's total of sage brush. I'd like to get rid of. Some are really thick 5" plus. What are your thoughts on this. may the mulcher be the way to go first
Good works tractor, down here in ga on Clark hill lake, we found out the more mulch you have on top of the tilled soil the more you ride on it especially when wet it would turn into a bog hole, especially in low spots that hold water, and I have a question about my 790 4\4 front axel to 2 gears messed up do you have any info on how to repair? John Deere way to high on labor costs thanks if you have any suggestions
I think the reluctance of your audience to accept the mulcher combo is cost. A big part of your channel's appeal is fulfilling, or almost fulfilling, machine ownership fantasy. Most of us guys can see ourselves on a subcompact, using the various attachments to bush hog, mow or till. But as impressive as the mulcher combo is, it's hard to imagine spending a year's salary on one machine! If you haven't got bitten by the small excavator bug yet, I can tell you it's life-changing. They are just SO versatile, not a one trick pony.
I wouldn't expect to sell many mulchers. It's a small market compared to pallet forks. However, these are real projects being accomplished on a property. Whether any viewer buys one or not, it can provide a vision on how to accomplish a job whether you buy it or hire it out. I've got a Cat 305e2, but only put a few hours on it so far. I'll definitely have projects coming up, but came across a good deal so bought it while I could.
Yes not only expensive but the mulching heads are very high maintainence & mulching low into the dirt isnt good, teeth get damaged & wear out very quickly & they go out of balance & vibrate badly. I did the maintainence on a fecon for about 7yrs & with a good operator we would get around 500hrs out of a set teeth but at one stage we had a not so good operator on it & he wore a new set out in approx 100hrs & at $3000 for a set of teeth the boss wasnt happy. The mulching heads are also hard on the skidsteer. The one i looked after was on a positrak pt100g & after aprrox 2000hrs the positrak had been through 7 sets of tracks, 3 sets of track rollers & 3 hyd pump drive couplings.
Most don't buy a skid steer a for easy jobs. They are made to be used in the harshest of environments and tackle otherwise unthinkable projects. Most of the time, you are compensated very well for this type of work. Higher equipment and maintenance costs are passed along to the customer. Part of doing business. Just don't underbid! Thanks for watching :)
You may need to spread clover/grass on your trails, ya may have some slippery muddy areas. Kinda late in the season now maybe... Come on Chris you can find better muddy conditions than that...
Our property unfortunately has rocks so this would be problematic for so many area’s. But wow it would be an awesome investment for places like yours, rental wise.
What's the difference between these mulcher heads and masticator heads? Around here all the brush clearing businesses have the mastication heads. I'm curious because I was thinking of starting a business myself. Those mulching heads look like the cut into finer pieces, but I wonder how durable they are against super hard woods like manzanita.
Great Demo video 👍 I'm curious if you can get a 42" to 48" wide mulcher for a Vermeer CTX 160 Mini-skid with a flow rate of 16.5 GPM? I know it sounds like a dangerous idea but I know someone doing it already. Please let me know. Thanks in advance 😁
I think that would be a good idea. However, almost full shade in the summer time? Would definitely help prevent erosion on those hills though. Too many miles of trails for gravel, it would be too expensive for me.
@@GoodWorksTractors yes, you are on the horns of my dilemma, lol. Don't know what the answer is. My trails turn into mud when it rains, too much shade to grow a ground cover, and gravel is way too expensive. I've tried wood chips from the shredder, that works kinda ok, but eventually it rots or washes away. Hopefully some of your wiser people have a solution? I'm all ears, lol!
Plant ginsang apples pears blueberry bushes cherry trees and Bee hives.seed clover all over.Bush piles for bunnies.dredge pond ..raise blue gills.look into growing mushrooms on down logs....plant turnips potatoes ramps carrots asperagass all over so it is self seeding
After watching this i like the job my 1965 12 hp Alice Chalmers lawnmower dose better. I retain the trail vegetation for one thing. I maintain them with my BX 25 as i have 6 bridges over the creeks and one to the island at the pond. Thats just to heavy for my bridges
The forward visibility in the steer is pretty amazing. You can see your loader mounted tool much better than on a tractor. So far, no drones lost. I know it's gonna happen at some point though, haha!
Loved the footage and audio. For those of you who liked watching the mulching check out John at "Upstate Brush Control". He has some great vids. Question Couldn't most of this be done with a brush hog?
Great video but in all fairness, the skid steer mulcher combo isn’t all that easy to use or operate efficiently as might have been implied. Buyers/operators beware. Similar to the UTV, a skid steer with rubber (vice steel) tracks can be problematic in wet areas when cutting trails. I hired out the mulching/clearing of a few miles of trails cut on my property last year but have mixed reviews related to my comments. I use a Kawasaki Mule Pro FXT to ride/maintain the trails and even though it is a “tank” it does not stand a chance in the muddy areas of Northwest Pennsylvania nor does it go well on frozen ground. Point being… be prepared to institute various work around. Good problems to have if you have if you can afford the acreage.
We've hit a few and not even noticed until walking the ground after. Rocks were split into pieces. But these are occasional and so far we haven't noticed one bigger than maybe 4-5". So good question, we have yet to really find out first hand what would happen.
**as long as you are in a rich dirt environment...get in some rocks and you will destroy these teeth. I have the CID disc mulcher; pros and cons to both. Thanks for the videos though!
Metal stops these munchers. Unfortunately old trees often have grown around a nail, spike, fence post or old fence wire. Your farm has become a location filming zone.
We've hit a few and not even noticed until walking the ground after. Rocks were split into pieces. But these are occasional and so far we haven't noticed one bigger than maybe 4-5". So good question, we have yet to really find out first hand what would happen when you hit a big one or a lot of them. I imagine the teeth could possibly break, or the rotor would just slow down/stop like it does when it's overloaded with other debris (like a stump).
One of these days, I'm going to do a video with it mulching all of the things you shouldn't hit...rock, wire fence, steel fence posts, etc. It isn't great, but I'm mulched up quite a bit of wire fence (and steel fence post). I can't even tell when it hits the fence, it treats it like anything else. The fence post sends sparks flying like crazy. Boulders too. Good way to quickly wear out your teeth, but fun to watch 🤣
@@GoodWorksTractors The "tilling" function you mention also dulls the blades really fast. Just like hitting dirt with a chain saw. Keeping the blades at or above ground level will triple time between sharpenings.
@@kdegraa depends…sharpening takes time. Replacing takes money (up to $3K) - particularly if tungsten carbide. Pulling, sharpening and replacing by yourself can take a full day on a bigger unit.

Understood, rocks are a tough problem to deal with.
I mud pit in Georgia is called a party 🎉
Would love to rent something like this for a day.
Usually the younger brother learns from the mishaps of the older brother! You still have your “king of stuck crown!”
I do my best not to learn ever, Erick!
good luck with rocks
What happens when you hit a rock or boulder? Awesome piece of equipment.
You back up or raise the mulcher. Fine for occasional contact, but not meant to rip boulders on a regular basis.
Thought those terms were interchangable?
@@GoodWorksTractors I don't know, I suppose I should do more research.
Hmm, possibly. Shoot me an email and I can talk to Baumalight to see if there's a good fit.
@@GoodWorksTractors I would buy one for my ditch witch xt850 if you could find it.
what do those gages mean and do on the brush head
What an awesome unstoppable machine! Are you gonna seed the trails with a cool season grass like rye or lay down gravel?
I got 13 km of trails and bridges. I cut them with a lawnmower now but it was all chainsaw and a lighter for me
After watching this i like the job my 1965 12 hp Alice Chalmers lawnmower dose better. I retain the trail vegetation for one thing. I maintain them with my BX 25 as i have 6 bridges over the creeks and one to the island at the pond. Thats just to heavy for my bridges
That shredder is great but how do you see what you’re cutting? 😂 I hope no drones where damaged from the making of this video. Nice farm, enjoy it!
The forward visibility in the steer is pretty amazing. You can see your loader mounted tool much better than on a tractor. So far, no drones lost. I know it's gonna happen at some point though, haha!
@@GoodWorksTractors You made it look easy. That’s a serious piece of cutting destruction. Great vid!
How does it do with rock?
Great machine mate perfect for your trails ! Until it meets the Iron wood from Brazil?? How much is one second hand?
this would be a best bet in the Philippine islands.....
would this work to clear land with rocks and earth and clearcut trees say an old rutted logging trail to make a good driveable pathway
Loved the footage and audio. For those of you who liked watching the mulching check out John at "Upstate Brush Control". He has some great vids.
Question Couldn't most of this be done with a brush hog?
Thank you!
that thing is cool🤔🤔 what's the Drone that you used🤔🤔
Recently we upgraded to the DJI Air 2S. It has not been without its problems, but I think every drone has 'em.
Who is the musician playing in the open? Music is awesome.
Can u add that braumalite go on a tractor with front hydraulic attachment
The tractor would need a strong hydraulic pump to power a rotating drum of this size so a big tractor would be needed.
Correct, very, very large tractor would be required.
@@GoodWorksTractors like a 4 series Deere?
Yes a wrench could stop it possibly a screw driver
Lifetime Warranty? As long as company in business!
Just a quick question. What happens when you encounter rocks? My property is full of those nasty little things!
We've hit a few and not even noticed until walking the ground after. Rocks were split into pieces. But these are occasional and so far we haven't noticed one bigger than maybe 4-5". So good question, we have yet to really find out first hand what would happen.
How much can us subscribers expect to spend on your skid steer mulching combination?
this steer and mulcher would sell for around 100k used.
**as long as you are in a rich dirt environment...get in some rocks and you will destroy these teeth. I have the CID disc mulcher; pros and cons to both. Thanks for the videos though!
what stops this machine, run into a wire fence. seen it happen several times
Yeah. A fence.
Metal stops these munchers. Unfortunately old trees often have grown around a nail, spike, fence post or old fence wire.
Your farm has become a location filming zone.
whats the song at the 17 minute mark? it sounds familiar but i cant name it
phil collins- another day in paradise
What happens when you inevitably hit a rock? How much damage to the teeth?
We've hit a few and not even noticed until walking the ground after. Rocks were split into pieces. But these are occasional and so far we haven't noticed one bigger than maybe 4-5". So good question, we have yet to really find out first hand what would happen when you hit a big one or a lot of them. I imagine the teeth could possibly break, or the rotor would just slow down/stop like it does when it's overloaded with other debris (like a stump).
You don’t like that red headed step child called “Gator” 😂 buy high sell low 😫
Haha, believe it or not, the Gator is growing on me. I think we're gonna gain some more appreciation for it this winter. At least it has heat!
Sell that Gator and get an Argo with tracks and go anywhere..
Leave bread crumbs so I don't get lost
Worried about that gator getting stuck in 2” of mud??? Time to upgrade
The newer gators suck, they are for golf courses.
Old barbed wire. Watch out for that.
@@MrChassmith how much time and money does it cost to replace the teeth on a mulcher like this?
@@kdegraa depends…sharpening takes time. Replacing takes money (up to $3K) - particularly if tungsten carbide. Pulling, sharpening and replacing by yourself can take a full day on a bigger unit.
