I appreciate how real Roger as a character is. He clearly has a lot of his own quirks, habits, and tendencies, like everything inspiring him to write a song, but you get an idea why he'd be accepted or considered charming and a "good man" without becoming over-idealized.
Disney became Disney because their animations were the world's best and created the techniques that are still used in CGI today. Check out their Golden Age movies: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) Pinocchio (1940) Fantasia (1940) Dumbo (1941) Bambi (1942) And Silver Age: Cinderella (1950) Alice in Wonderland (1951) Peter Pan (1953) Lady and the Tramp (1955) Sleeping Beauty (1959) One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) The Sword in the Stone (1963) The Jungle Book (1967)
I once read an article about this movie that said Pongo & Perdita had 8 boy puppies (Lucky, Patch, Rolly, Freckles, Fidget, Dipstick, Whizzer, & Thunder) & 7 girl puppies (Penny, Pepper, Jewel, Two-Tone, Cadpid, Purdy, & Spotty).
There is a live action version from 1996 and a sequel to that version from 2000 called 102 Dalmatians. Both are starring Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil and she does a phenomenal job at capturing the character’s personality from the original cartoon.
Personality maybe, but I've never been able to bring myself to watch that movie because of the lack of resemblance. Glenn Close's face structure is the exact opposite to Cruella De Vil's, already starting with the nose. I have great issues with such flaws in casting.
@@tubekulose You are right about that. Cartoon Cruella’s facial structure made her look like a walking skeleton that if she were real and you encountered her, she’d be frightening as hell. On the other hand, Glenn Close, oddly enough, wasn’t as scary appearance-wise that, if it weren’t for the same devilish demeanor, she’d almost feel like a totally different person.
Dasha thanks for this reaction. I saw it many times back in the day. Years later i went into the animation business. I met some of the Disney's animators who worked on this movie along with many others Disney classic'. Sadly they have passed away now, but It was such an honor to meet them. Hope to see more good old animation movies on your channel ; )
Great reaction as always, Dasha! 👍 "The movie's from 1961, so I'm not expecting a lot from the animation...." Dasha, I am begging you to cast aside the bias against older films and their animation. Older films, newer films, they all require one thing: That the animation expresses the same ideas and emotions that we would get from real life people and dogs and all other things. The technology of the animation is irrelevant. The older Disney animated films are all great without any modern technology.
The meticulous, hand painted animation art of 1930s Disney could not even be attempted today. That lost art form required a battalions of craftsmen to create the final work. The expense and lack of talented animators makes it impossible to reach that standard-computer generated graphics are a grubby alternative.
to be fair though disney did go through a low point in animation style in the 60's and 70's starting with this film where they use what i believe is called the xerograph technique hence why it's got that rough style. compare that to earlier films like "pinocchio" "bambi" or "sleeping beauty" and there's no comparisson
I love how they made the people look like their dogs, and the breed diversity is incredible. They show several very rare breeds. I've been grooming dogs for almost 10 years and I only recently groomed an Afghan hound for the first time. Even Dalmatians are very uncommon.
The cartoon shown on the TV when Tibbs tries to count the puppies, is Springtime, a Silly Symphony short done by Disney in 1929. Also, the show that Jasper and Horace watches What's my Crime is a parody on the game show What's my Line, which Walt Disney himself was a guest on (unlike other episodes, the panel where blindfolded as Disney was too recognizable to do it the usual way).
There is a LOT of communication from the dog that humans miss or mistake. It's kind of sad that people and dogs live together but the humans often fail to pick up on what the dog is trying to tell them. Luckily, dogs are very patient with us. I've studied bit of Dog Training and Dog Behavior (not an expert) and one of the first things I got to see was that dogs communicate and understand a LOT more than people give them credit for. ESPECIALLY when it comes to communicating with other dogs. There's a lot going on there that people miss. Dogs are actually pretty impressive in this regard. Most of the time, it is the human that misinterprets what a dog is communicating, both to humans and to other dogs. The worst of it is when dogs are considered dangerous when the actual problem came from the humans responsible for them. The human's behavior can put a dog into a defensive or fearful state of mind, even if the human didn't know that they were contributing to it. I have a neighbor who does not understand why her 8 kilogram dog behaves in a certain way; He is very assertive, goes after cars that drive by when she's walking him, drags her around, etc. This is because her energy with the dog is passive. Since she doesn't take charge and lead the dog, the dog feels that his job is to keep her safe. He doesn't have confidence in her ability to keep herself or him safe, so he fills that role on his own. The problem is that this can lead him to bad behavior. He already has issued challenges to other dogs in the neighborhood who are 7 times as big as he is. This little dog is too big for his pants. He should not feel that he has to behave this way, but his human doesn't have enough confident energy, and that has left her with a back-of-the-pack type of dog assuming a leadership role. This is not healthy for a back-of-the-pack dog. That type of dog needs a confident assertive human to allow it to feel that it can relax. If he had that, he would be much more balanced in his behavior - which has included nipping and growling at children. More and more I've been tempted to pursue formal training with dogs so that I can help people with their dogs. I'd love to leave my job to do this. If I do, I'll probably develop a Channel to extend my reach. With that in mind, there are some great Channels for this already. Most people know about Cesar Milan, but there is Dog Daddy, Beckman's Dog Training, Dogmata, etc.
This wasn't at the top of films i wanted to catch up on, but i had a feeling you'd enjoy it. I loved this film as a kid. Watching you watch this is a really enjoying. I never expected you to get that into it. This was another fantastic reaction, thank you.
I cannot find any comments about the 2021 live-action movie "Cruella", which surprises me. It is not exactly a re-make, but rather an alternate-universe prequel-esque story with a young Cruella as the anti-hero protagonist. And it is by far the best of the recent Disney live-action movies, Emma Stone does a fantastic job in it. Well worth a watch!
I feel someone is achingly waiting for a delivery of LOVE....she really deserves someone special to polish the heart of gold she possess. Dog movies just throw light on the situation. I feel the same tug on my fatherly heart watching Dasha watch this as Dasha does watching the puppies. Some one go hug this woman b4 i start crying.
😎👍 Year after year in poll after poll, when asked who the scariest female Disney villain is, Cruella DeVille consistantly tops the evil queens from "Snow White," "Alice & Wonderland" and "Sleeping Beauty" + Ursula from "The Little Mermaid." 🐶 To answer your question, There have been numerous live-action remakes of this over the last 30 years and they all stink. 🐕
An absolute classic and one of Disney's best. The 90's version was very good too. Back when Disney used to be a lot better with originality and nostalgia through the decades. They have made a ton of great later films before it all changed from the last decade, in my opinion.
Sword in the Stone is another one of this era of animation I would recommend, and many of the voice actors from this one are in that too! Can't not mention Lady and the Tramp either...
I first saw this when I was little. I remember it making a big impact. Especially the crazy look in Cruella's eyes when she rams the van was burned into my brain. Very tense and scary movie for a seven year old or so.
You would adore 'Homeward Bound', two dogs and a cat braving the wilderness to get back home. A lot of ups and downs along the way and some great acting from the animals. Also both 'Babe' and its sequel 'Babe: Pig in the City' are worth checking out.
I second that homeward bound recommendation. I first watched it with my two older sisters and ever since it became my go to lift my spirits type of movie.
101 Dalmations, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe & the Hobbit are all classic British children's books that my Dad used to read to me and my sisters as bedtime stories. One of the best things about Britain is we have so many wonderful authors, both for adults and children. Others that have been made into films are Paddington, Mary Poppins, Watership Down, Peter Pan and of Course the Harry Potter books. And there are loads of others. Out of those can I suggest Watership Down which is about a group of rabbits? I first read it when I was seven and was quite proud that I'd read such a long novel (478 pages seemed a lot at the time until I read lord of the Rings). I loved it so much I re-read it numerous times until i could remember whole passages off by heart. The author also wrote a sequel called 'The Starlight Barking'. Cruella de Vil is an iconic baddie. Fun fact: Suella Braverman, until recently the British Home Secretary has been nick-named 'Cruella'. And for good reason. Lets just say she displays a lot of the 20 personality traits listed on the psychopath test. Not a nice woman. Scarily she may well be the next leader of the Tory party and wants to become Prime Minister. *Shudder*
A movie that I grew up watching and loved, thanks for taking me down memory lane. Two animated movies that you might like that involve dogs - All Dogs Go To Heaven and Lady and the Tramp.
This is from Walt Disney's golden era - from 1937 (Snow White) up to the 1970s - painstakingly hand drawn animation that still stand the test of time. My personal favourite is Jungle Book from 1967 but you might have issues with copyright because of all the great songs.
Disney made a live-action remake in 1997. John Hughes wrote the script. There's "Home Alone-style" slapstick gags with bad guys getting cartoonishly zapped by power lines! Glenn Close was cast as Cruella De Ville.
Dasha, Dasha, Dasha! So cute. Disney was the gold standard for animation for decades. Nobody could match the quality of their product. This movie caused a spike in the Dalmatian population. "The Dalmatian affection effect." People found out that the cute puppies they wanted turned into the high-maintenance dogs that you so wisely avoided. Yes, there was a live action version with Glenn Close as Cruella. It spawned a sequel 102 DALMATIANS. There was also CRUELLA. I can't recommend any of them due to me not seeing them. There are many live animal centered movies out there. RESCUED BY ROVER got it started 120 years ago. Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Benji, and Beethoven are all in the system, as are hundreds of other performers. Many animal adventures to be had. EIGHT BELOW and the INCREDIBLE JOURNEY 1963, are just a couple suggestions. Many excellent animated features as well. Keep fighting the good fight.
I'm so glad Dasha's watching this old school cool classic, especially with the doggos for her sake! She'd love "Lady & the Tramp" and Don Bluth's "All Dogs Go to Heaven!", heyy? 😉 🎨🖌️🎥 🐕
Dynamic Dasha plus dogs equals delight. This is peak Disney with a strong storyline, and ideal family fare back in the day. The 1996 live action version is highly recommended, with Glenn Close in her best diabolical form as Cruella. I don't think I've ever seen an actress relish her role so much. It also features an early film appearance by Hugh Laurie as one of the henchmen -a must for any dog-lover, and cat-lovers too. Well done as always, ma'am, and a woof woof to Hugo.
Considering the disney animated movies youve watched i was surprised with this choice at first but then I realized it makes sense. From one dog lover to another here comes another like to this video.
This is perfect example why I prefer animals to human we do so many bad things (not all but..). Love your reaction sooo wanted to learn Russian all love hun hello from UK 🇬🇧 🙏😍
I read the book before I watched the animated movie. I loved the book much more than the animation, BUT I still love the animation for what it is. I've watched it at least once a year since I was young.
Another great reaction Dasha. And you're right. Anyone who wants to kill innocent dogs, puppies no less, and skin them for their fur is the absolute worst. Keep up the great work Dasha. I love your videos.
One of my favorite movies ever. They did a great job adapting the book, which the author helped with in this case. I'd recommend reading the book (by Dodie Smith). There's a lot more detail about what goes on, and judging by your reaction, you'd really enjoy it. I also agree that you should watch Lady and the Tramp, it's a great movie.
If you’re referring to the movie, Cruella as a new movie that came out a few years ago yes, definitely watch it. It is a very good movie. It is the origin. Story of Cruella Deville. I saw it in the theater. It was very good. I would recommend it.
That moment when one puppie didn't born alive, that really hits me as a adult, because few years ago I had tibetanspaniel with my ex-wife, and when that tibetanspaniel got 2 puppies, one was born alive and another was born dead. We tried to give CPR, but it didn't work. Few days after that my wife called me when she find out another puppy doesn't breathe. We tried everything but nothing helped. And that happen in Christmas. To be honest, when I was a kid this movie was very scary to me. Just because of Cruella. Not only she is very aggressive, but she also want to kill little puppies. ☠️ Jesus....😨
I love this movie. I have a nickname for you Dasha. Because you love to dance when you hear a song sometimes your nickname will be dancing Dasha. 😉. I love when you dance it’s really cute. Anyway I’ll let you know my thoughts on this video later
If you liked this film, you really should consider watching the 1996 live action 101 Dalmations remake, if only to watch Glen Close portray Cruella. The movie itself isn't the greatest, but Glen absolutely carries it. Her acting and personality is spot on.
When the dogs roll in ash, does that count as blackface?😂 It was also a little weird that when they came back home covered in ash (black) the owner immediately starts singing about putting them on a plantation.😂
Those old Disney movies were like horror films to me when I was a small kid. I still remember thinking they are going to kill the puppies and use their skin for coats. My extreme anxiety comes back to me even after sixty years when I watch them.
And you were worried about the quality of the animation 😂 Old Disney animation were true works of art and they spent so my hundreds or thousands of hours in research
Dasha: You also need to watch the sequel to this movie Patch's London Adventure. It's 1 of the few straight to video sequels/prequels Disney made in the 1990s & early 2000s that wasn't terrible.
Watching this makes me worry about myself. I have the urge to take care of Dasha like she is one of my little sisters. Can't help it. (only 4 younger brothers but LOTS of sisters)
Another vote for "Lady and The Tramp" (1955). Great story, great tunes and great animation.
I actually think the remake of that one is worth a watch too, which is rare.
AGREED
@@lordtrigon1733 I'd say that even the direct to video sequel has it's worth.
Oh gimme these old school styles of animation any day, they had character, charm and substance.
Totally agree!
This, Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone and Aristocats. Disney’s best animation jobs.
And Britishness.
I appreciate how real Roger as a character is. He clearly has a lot of his own quirks, habits, and tendencies, like everything inspiring him to write a song, but you get an idea why he'd be accepted or considered charming and a "good man" without becoming over-idealized.
If you like this, Lady and the Tramp is a must watch.
That is a good suggestion.
Came across a Dalmatian and hummed the Cruella DeVille song and the dog barked at me.
That's cool. 😂
It must have seen this movie to understand who Cruella de Vil is.

Dalmatians are so inbred (like most purebred dogs) that they have horrible health problems due to messed up genetics.

I never like 101 Dalmations as a kid because it was too scary! But is a animation classic. My mom had to turn off the tv because I started crying.
I love how Dasha was immediately into the movie …….. and not caring that animation back then was 1000 times better.
I love it when your pup is in the background.
I remember watching this in the theater as a kid when it got a re-release in the late eighties. I think it's one of old Disney's best.
This cartoon introduced me to England when I was little, six decades ago.
I was 12 years old when this came out in 1961. My older brother was an usher at the movie theater. I saw this many times that year.
My favorite thing about this movie has always been seeing all the animals coming together to save the puppies!

Since you like the animated movie so much you should definitely watch the feature film 101 Dalmatians, Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil is iconic!
The van driver is hardcore for stopping Cruella
I read the book before I watched the animated movie. I loved the book much more than the animation, BUT I still love the animation for what it is. I've watched it at least once a year since I was young.
Another great reaction Dasha. And you're right. Anyone who wants to kill innocent dogs, puppies no less, and skin them for their fur is the absolute worst. Keep up the great work Dasha. I love your videos.
Any of the early Disney animated films from Snow White in the 1930s to The Jungle Book in the 1960s is worth watching for the artistry.
You'd love the live action version, imagine the puppies hugs
Damm, last time I watched this movie, I was 5 years old. It gives me flash backs.
Dasha needs to watch the original "Lady and the Tramp." She'll love the art, animation, characters and story.
I was 6 years old when this first came out I couldn't wait to go see it I kept telling my mom and dad let's go let's go
I’ve always dreamed of a 101 Dalmatians/Lady and the Tramp crossover film.
BTW, Lady and the Tramp. Must watch.
Yes I have two dogs. I love all dogs animated dogs, cgi dogs they're all good boys and good girls. Including Hugo! Himself a good boy too...
Love this movie!
Hey Dasha, I recommend you watch, What About Bob?
It's a comedy with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss.
Back when Disney was fun!
Why do so many young people say that they basically expect older movies to be poor in quality?! 😳
Some Dogs have found their owners by traveling over 160.934 kilometers away
This movie version is the best one IMO. It more closely followed the 1956 book by Dodie Smith...
Imagine watching this as a kid...that's why I love dogs .. PTSD.
Jesus....😨
I love this movie. I have a nickname for you Dasha. Because you love to dance when you hear a song sometimes your nickname will be dancing Dasha. 😉. I love when you dance it’s really cute. Anyway I’ll let you know my thoughts on this video later
Great reaction! If you like animation, consider reacting to *Watership Down* (1978) or *Bambi* (1942).
Disney actually made a movie about Cruella!
I love the old cartoons I grew up on , and you look absolutely beautiful as usual.
Keep up the great work Dasha!
This movie was my introduction to the word idiot.
Dasha you are such a sweet soul
I vote "Do not watch the remake"!
And you were worried about the quality of the animation 😂 Old Disney animation were true works of art and they spent so my hundreds or thousands of hours in research
I loved your reaction to this! Now you should watch "The Aristocats" 😂
This was a dog film, that is a cat film
The live action remake with Glenn Close is well worth the watch imo.
Dasha: You also need to watch the sequel to this movie Patch's London Adventure. It's 1 of the few straight to video sequels/prequels Disney made in the 1990s & early 2000s that wasn't terrible.
There was also a TV series
❤❤❤ this movie,i still have my vhs tape❤
Takes me back to the days people named their dogs pongo instead of brandon
The live 1996 movie is a good adaptation of the cartoon
Watching this makes me worry about myself. I have the urge to take care of Dasha like she is one of my little sisters. Can't help it. (only 4 younger brothers but LOTS of sisters)
Our pets don't belong to us we belong to them.
