Incredible. The more I watch videos of history the more I realize that people have always been the same...and the more I realize how fleeting and momentary time really is. Events, people and places feel so permanent in the moment. But in reality.....it's barely a blip.

They only sounded like this because of inferior recording equipment. If they didn't speak this way, the microphones would barely pick their voices up. That's the reason you only ever hear actors or broadcasters speaking like this and not everyday people. I do agree, though, that it sounds much better than the lazy diction people have now.

@@StrangeScaryNewEnglandno l, it's called the mid Atlantic accent notable from 40s to 80s. Even in turbo encabulator videos they talk like so, nothing to do with the audio quality. Hardly inferior to begin with especially with the major advancements since the 1800s.

Looking back at the opening of Charles De Gaulle Airport you have to think, what was Paul Andreu thinking? Let's make the most depressing, convoluted, depressing grey building we can conjure. Brutalism can be interesting, but this was not brutalism at its best.

@british pathe point of order, the Rugby in the early segment, is not the SIX NATIONS which is Rugby Union, it is Rugby League with the legendary Clive Sullivan scoring a try against Australia. He was the first black captain of any GB side. All the clips are Rugby League, commentary by Eddie Waring.

"The Greatest"?🙂Bill Clinton, President of America from 1993 to 2001, was accused of being a draft-dodger because he was "conveniently absent" during different multiple drafts for the Vietnam War of 1955 to 1975. Muhammad Ali was also a "greatest-dodger" of sorts, because he spectacularly reclaimed the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World Title on 30th October 1974 by unexpectedly knocking out George Foreman in the eighth round of the fight, in one of the most iconic reenactments of "David vs. Goliath" of our time, but then Ali thereafter declined a give Foreman a return fight, and this is a blemish and question-mark on if Muhammad Ali is truly "The Greatest of All Time"🙂 I still however have a lot admiration for Muhammad Ali, his life, and his career. It is completely MIND-BLOWING that a Japanese soldier was still fighting WW2 almost 30 years after it ended, living on some island in the middle of nowhere. I'm only 32, so this man was fighting a non-existent war for as long as I've been alive. Holy sht. It makes you feel bad for him in a way. 30 wasted years of his life.

Toward the end, for the part about the occupation of Hungary by the German troops, in March 1944, the shown videos have nothing to do with the actual event, other than location. What you see is about 11 months after German troops occupying Hungary, and it shows Soviet troops. By the way, the Romanian ally of the Soviets was the one who advanced through Budapest until they reached Danube and the building of the Parliament, in the center of the city. After all that bloody fighting and heavy losses, when the job was finally done, the Romanian Army was replaced with Soviet troops, for the Red Army to claim that they are the ones who conquered Budapest.

I can understand why the boxer Muhammad Ali wanted to change his name from his "slave" name. Ironically Cassius Marcellus Clay was an American abolishionist while the most famous Muhammad Ali before the boxer was Muhammed Ali the Ottoman Empire's Viceroy in Egypt and one of the largest slave owners of the 19th century.

Strange indeed. The Cassius Clay of 19th Century fame is perhaps one of the most “based” people to ever exist. His stances on abolitionism and anti slavery were so staunch his life was threatened on numerous occasions. People nowadays need to know more about Mr. Clay, because he’s one of the many brave souls that ensured that slavery would be done away with in America. Without his efforts, things would be far more different.
