Palestine is just a Greek name for the land of Israel and rooted in the Hebrew/Assyrian name Pelesht/Palasht, i.e. Philistia, the land of the ancient Philistines, a Southern European people who ceased to exist as a distinct ethnic group around the 5th century BCE, as they were massively absorbed by Jews. In other words, we modern Jews are partially descendants of those Philistines/Palestinians but we keep the indigenous name of our land - Israel.
