Everybody makes a BIG a HUGE deal about the Xotic SP Compressor and it is a great comp and I have a few Xotic pedals which are amazing but my Custom Comp I wouldn't trade for any other, it's exactly the kind of compressor I like.
That's a pretty good point. My Tone Press Demo (stand alone) does exhibit that, but you're right.....it's not illustrated in this shootout video. Thanks for pointing that out my friend.
I'm fairly new to the "compression game". I'd say for Bass and rhythm guitar, the Tone Press would be ideal for keeping your signal tight. For lead guitar or aggressive rhythm with harmonics, I'd go for the MXR. They both sound very good !
Thanks for the demo Jake. Both seem like good compressors. Never tried that model of MXR compressors. It sounds much better than the MXR models I've tried in the past (those were too squishy for me). I've been using the Tone Press for years. I have to agree with the comment below. I set the Blend knob just a little past 1/2 way. I set the Sustain knob about 3/4. I also run it inside the loop of my noise suppressor so there's no noise at all. "The Tone Press features parallel compression yes, but by having the Blend control maxed out throughout you're only hearing the compressed signal and not the uncompressed tone - ie it's not parallel - which is a bit of a shame! Also it would be a lot more useful if the comp controls weren't dimed for the whole demo..."
I agree with you completely. My original intent was to do another video with alternate settings.....which, unfortunately, I never got around to doing. So....as you correctly pointed out, the video has limitations in the sound comparisons. Will need to get that other video done! Thx!

You bet, man. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Jim. Thanks for the question. The knobs were set differently to get the volumes at, relatively, the same level.
My vote is for the Tone Press solely on it's transparency/ lack of altered tone color. Thanks for the demo Jake, kudos!
excellent demo!
Thanks for stopping....feel free to check out AskAGuitarPro.com as well!

True Single Coils. Let me know how it goes with the MXR, my friend.
Custom Comp has a Significantly Higher Noise Floor ( don't you think? ). I Prefer the Tone Press. Nice Comparison. - Michael Caz - NYC -
Why is the volume on the Tone Press set higher the whole time?, ON MXR, about 10 oclock, and on TP about 1 oclock?
but i like the pop sound :) is the custom better than the red one?
Both are similar, but I've never played them head to head. Thx. for the question.

Sorry, I had to dislike this demo. You can't really have a compressor comparison when the camera mic is already compressing everything.
Xotic SP is better!
Hard to tell when the tone is rather bland. Cool comparrison though.
