Desmond Morris is a brilliant man. He's a film-maker, broadcaster, an animal and human behaviourist, prolific writer, and surrealist painter. He really shows his appreciation and respect for true artists in this interview. He's still about, living in Ireland, and published his latest book on the subject of surrealist painters in 2018 at the age of 90.
When I was vacationing in England with my family back in 1980, my brother and I wandered into a record shop in Piccadilly Circus on one of our outings, and "Never For Ever" had just been released. ALL the buzz in England was about Kate and her new record! They were playing "Breathing" when we walked in, and as soon as I heard it-I was hooked from then on. I STILL have the British vinyl copy of the album that I bought there!
She is so self aware. And obviously brilliant. I 1st encountered her music in the mid-80s. Fell helplessly in love with it. Completely re-wired my musical brain. She is a treasure.
All that talent and she's beautiful to look at plus I get the feeling she's beautiful and intelligent on the inside. I gave my daughter a Kate Bush greatest hits dvd (yeah) when my daughter was about 8 and she loved it. she watched all the time
"that's something you have to learn to accept, you have limitations and that's what you go for" I just love her, she's so amazing, talented, inspiring and smart, and at that young age!
Yes, I loved her accent, her passion and sincerity, her beauty, her alluring eyes when serious and her cute smile when laughing..... Thank you for posting. I feel proud to have been a teenager when Kate was at her hights. She was/is very unique in the best of ways.
I am 28 and I love the music and intelligence of this incredible artist. Kate is and was the best¡¡¡ I can´t stop from watching her videos, listen her music and voice, and amazed for the inclredible transforming of her music from the beginnings to now. All her albums are good.
"So many pop singers do sound the same"... Just to say that today's "mainstream" music isn't that different from most pop in those days. Kate would be as much of an exception today as she was back then.
2:27 "I think that [the music] got my soul before the education even got near me." That is the insight. Children must find out who they are before they get socialized and conformed. Most people are very unhappy because they are trying to be somebody else or fit into some group.
"There has been imitators since..." Yes, quite a LOT of them since 1981 too. Some even dare to call themselves "innovative" and "original". Others at least have the decency to mention Kate Bush as a huge influence to them.
I had more or less completely switched off from the world of pap, mainstream pop music by the 1980s, the emergence of anti-music in the form of punk having no doubt accelerated me in that direction. In doing that I missed out on the rare gems that were around at the time like Bush, who I've only more recently started to appreciate.
I resonate so much with her talk about listening to "traditional music" from an early age, there's indeed something magical and vital about listening to and being moved by ethnic music from around the world even though you don't literally understand it.
The presenter of this show is sporting a classic "Comb-Over" hair style. Don't see them too much these days, remnants of days past I think. wasn't Kate Bush a Stunner? Love her!
I was hoping he'd ask her what her influences were. I love the way she's looking at him at 1:03 and Desmond says he feels like a mouse looking at a cobra when she's singing. I'd love to have her look at me like that, I'd feel like prey, I'd be hypnotised looking into her eyes, unable to carry on speaking. She's so beautifull and enchanting.
That green dress is beautiful!! - Love the comments about this hair! lol! It's true, that comb-over is something to behold. But it was from that time. And I don't think he is pervy or creepy, there's nothing wrong with a man admiring a woman for her beauty and "exotic moves" lol!, that's the way some of these guys were back then, I'm the same age as Kate, we didn't get offended as easily, we probably giggled more or less about men like him.
I was born as a small child shortly before this period of Desmond, but not too small. By this time, I was just the right size to look around as a type of witness of what was happening, in a way, and I can say that it is not correct that men looked at women and admired them at all. All of that male reactionistic behaviour was fully understood by local authorities by 1968 (pardon the pun) and gradually redirected in on itself for somatic phase cancellation or looped harmlessly out of the system using covalent fats. By 1980, men mostly perceived women as objects around which to manoeuvre lorries and cranes, and, later, more subtly, themselves and trolleys. Having achieved the goal of post-objectification, men have to drive better, and that's a good thing, not a bad thing.
I'm a woman and a huge KB fan...she's influnenced me as a Singer/Songwriter....but please don't insult the rest of womenkind. We all have our unique qualities, don't we?
I was also brought up near her part of Kent, I lived in Bexleyheath, But would have friends and go to Welling a lot where she lived was just down the road-And still do now! I kno she went to many other parts of Kent like Bexleyheath, Sidcup, Dartford, Crayford, Belverdere, etc A family member now lives in the family house in Kent I live in now a rural part of Kent, But am aiming to move back to this part of Kent either Bexleyheath or welling etc early next year This whole covid 19 has put it on hold, Which is rather annoying!
i didnt use to get that "mystical" and enchanting vibe from KB (thats not to say she wasn't among my best all time artists) until i fell asleep to a couple of her songs and experienced a scary f'n sleep paralysis
I think she is embarrassed by her brilliance, she is just thinking I am me and yea I can dance and sing a bit but for sure she is an artiste and a great one too.

this isn't John Cleese? KATE is great but this guy I thought he was John Cleese just a little lol.She doesn't sound like I thought she would sound like.I thought he speaking voice would be bigger not as " shy".Wonderful artist.
Oh come on! People are so easily offended these days! He wasn’t creepy at all! I thought he asked really good questions and was respectful! He said ‘exotic’ not erotic’ !
She’s so modest and adorable
Yes your absolutely spot on she is👍. Very interesting to listen to
I could listen to her talking for hours, a voice of an angel ❤
She's so articulate! I could listen to her talk all day!

He asks much better questions, than many interviewers did in a lot of Kate's earlier interviews. I love Kate, I find her endlessly inspiring
Aspel asked her the best ones anyone has ever asked her.
Wish every star was this humble...she's too good for this world.

Kate Bush is everything!
Kate even just talking is so mesmerizing

"sssssssss, is the obvious one isn't it!"
Hilarious, she's quick
Kate is an artistic genius and, like most genius, she doesn't know it. Just love her!!!
Wow, understated, but truly gorgeous !

These interviews are very educational.
Best British singer ever. ❤
No, she's not the best English singer ever, no. At best, she's the fifth best.
She's one of the best British female singers

Kate was a stunner. I don't know how I would have behaved with her

Why do you call her a witch?
@@todd6851 maybe witch is the wrong word but she has some kind of a magic feeling to her especially live
@@maximesteinebrunner9941 Got it. I agree!
Geez all us teenage boys back then were battin' off crazy to this honey lol
Bush was 23 in that interview but yet sounds so modest. That's right there you could tell she was a unique individual.
As Kate sings~~~~~"tell me we both matter...don't we?"
An absolute Gem
so 7 miley cyrus-fans thumbs down this? awwww... poor little girls....
great ! thank you for posting!
My very first crush...
she's the female bowie!
Good comparison! So creative and dramatic!
6:14 "I see it developing especially on the stage"
and then she didn't do another live tour or residency until 2014 lmao
Research and find out why. There’s a very good reason . 💔
She's smart
Exquisite!

Oooh she was/is gorgeous!
the one and only kate she is truly lovely
she reminds me of a fairy! shes so cute...:)
Her music is mainly progressive, it's leading somewhere, whereas more purer pop music is repetitive, or circular, right.
Some of it was leading into the pound bin up Our Price, which was fantastic for any big Bush fans.
I was also brought up near her part of Kent, I lived in Bexleyheath, But would have friends and go to Welling a lot where she lived was just down the road-And still do now!

i didnt use to get that "mystical" and enchanting vibe from KB (thats not to say she wasn't among my best all time artists) until i fell asleep to a couple of her songs and experienced a scary f'n sleep paralysis

🌹
She always skips onto the stage lol
I think she is embarrassed by her brilliance, she is just thinking I am me and yea I can dance and sing a bit but for sure she is an artiste and a great one too.
She's really humble. Nothing pretentious about her
Were they mocking her with the big bushes? I hope not. Even if they were, she's probably too sweet, thoughtful and kind to say anything about it.
Would be great to listen to her and Freddie Mercury have a discussion!
For me it's Michael jackson I see alot of similarities that might not be obvious
"I see it developing especially on the stage." Maybe not so much!

Kate got all the smart feminine mystique genes and there hasn't been much left over for the rest of the ladies ever since.

Only those that are true music genius are humble of their skill and craft and attainment. The rest are mainly attention seekers.
1.15 lol
now that would be weird.
Wow that interviewers hair is appalling, what is he like? Chairman Mao or one of those fellas.
Kate Bush is God
.
Oh I didn't mean you. Not the ones who are KB fans. No if you are a fan you have almost the same genes. nice gene I am sure.
She's God...i'm telling you 😏
Transgender Freemason. Probably just like you.
