She's in a league of her own. I've been in love with this lady since '78.
Thank you so much for showing this video. I have been a life long fan and it is so wonderful to ‘meet’ the real Kate Bush. Her beauty, grace and gentle voice elevate me into a world of calm and peace.
Here in the US I first discovered Kate right about the time of this interview when listening to a radio interview with the legendary Scott Muni in NYC. She was so lovely and gracious. Been a big fan since. Seeing her perform is on my bucket list.
I know she’s still got quite a few fans, but holy crap she’s one of my favorite artists ever. My first love musically is alt rock/indie from bands like Weyes Blood, The National, etc., and I feel like they owe so much of who they are (Weyes Blood in particular) to Kate Bush. Discovering that everything I love is just iterations of the brilliance of Kate Bush.
Weyes Blood isn't alt rock or indie. she's art pop! that's the same genre as Kate Bush, and artists such as Bjork. it's an amazing genre, and sadly one of the only genres in the music community where women get recognition.
The Dreaming has all the bits of genius in a raw form that Kate Bush was able to integrate in later projects that were recieved and successful commercially. You can see she recognizes her own powers in it, and I think it has been observed by reviewers as being important in her evolution as an artist.
Good old telly yes, even though it's a programme aimed for a youngish audience the interviews were usually very adult not the loud nonsense we get today.
There is great sensual , intellectual , emotional , and funky depth in Kate Bush songs beyond the surface storyline of the song. Cloudbusting, for instance, sure doesn't solely have to be just about making rain in the sky - not in my chosen interpetation anyway.
Hounds of Love is a superb record. Maybe a contrast in cultures is obvious when comparing Kate Bush and her contemporary Madonna. The difference is simply evident.
Ghandi would have appreciated the marked contrast between Kate and Madonna; when he first arrived in The States he was surrounded by reporters. One asked 'Gee Mr. Ghandi, what do you think of American culture?' to which he replied 'It sounds like an excellent idea!'
It's interesting how different not just the accent but the inflection in people's voices was different 35 years ago, not to mention how much more awkwardly formal interviews seemed. What I love about Kate's vibe as well is she makes an effort not to come across as arrogant despite having every right to be, given how much she created from such a young age.
@@NeglectedField here in the USA, several waves of migration both from outside and within have also contributed to the alteration and even elimination of some regional dialects. Many different regional accents have softened and become less distinct. Television went a long way to homogenizing the national identity of several languages, not just English. Of course, as I often tell my friends when pressed to explain events both current and historical, it's never just one thing. However, television and film can easily and rather accurately be credited for having done the most to change the way people speak.
@@NeglectedField the changes in speech have continued as the media has changed who are their featured speakers and chosen idols. Back then artists such as Kate tended to be more eloquent and intelligent. Now the media and music industry are cluttered with functional illiterates who struggle to form a complete sentence.
@@felixmarvin1199 In England, way before I was born there were distinct Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and Kent dialects. Now they've broadly melded into one and within the South East in general, people's dialects are at least seemingly more split by age, class and ethnicity, now.
What a British icon, She did the right thing building her own studio in her childhood country home in Kent rather then spening loads of money on studio time in London I met her twice as a kid among other people in that circle, But even more so her dad Robert Bush-My friend and his family their family GP was Robert which was in: Plumstead South East London-Lovley man
@Baby Hunn Yes I did meet Hannah yes, don't think I would forget that lol Remember when she brought out a massive jug of orange squash for me and my friend-Frazer! Who's nurse, She worked as a staff nurse at Epsom Grove Hospital-Surrey Where you from?
@Baby Hunn Ah good old NY, been there many times since a small kid in 80's for a holiday among other parts of the US! No Hannah had met Robert before he was a GP. And his practice was in London in Plumstead not Surrey! I don't live that far from her childhood home in county of Kent in Welling-I'm also in Kent near Dartford! Have you been to the UK before??
@Baby Hunn Oh yeah, where did you stay and what did you do while you here in the mid 90's 😁 No Bexleyheath is where she was born but the house where she grew up in was just down the road in Welling! Because at that time she moved to London when EMI bought her a flat and wanted to be back in Kent in early 1982! So she moved back home with her mum and dad in Welling and built a home studio there then in late 1985 bought house in Eltham! But wasn't in the house it was a built extension from the side of the garden! Hannah never worked with Robert in Plumstead! Yea she was from Ireland Hannah-Yeah Kate was/is very talented. I'm falling alseep as very late here in UK so if don't reply will do when wake up. 🥱
@Baby Hunn Not a problem at all! I do know of the Adirondack Moutains but never been there, and was also last shown on UK-TV 4 months ago! When you said its almost time for you to wake up I was still sleeping for 3 hours. lol Oh so just in London then-should of got a train into Kent-my part of Kent to London only takes 35 mins on the train. 😁 As I am writing this it is 9am in New York and 2pm here! building a home studio with all that equipment was really expensive, but in the long run it isn't-Typical artists normally spend at least 6 months doing an album and if you recorded that at EMI that would of been something like 3 grand a day so total that up for 6 months! Not just that but also the producer and engineer get their cut, which Kate didn't have to do. + Abby Road would be like 5 grand a day which would ten obviously come out of what ever you made with single/album in the charts! Where as a home studio you have no constant pressure! Del met her in summer of 1976, when she was 18, well to me as I was local and also because my friend and his familes GP was DR Robert Bush it was much earlier meeting them than at a record signing their album etc When d you think yu will be next in the UK for a holiday-I mean been 25 very long years(take it you went before Sept)??
Kate is so soft-spoken. She would be great in ASMR😉. I really like this interview (in opposite to that infamous Nightflight one 🤦). She seems to enjoy it. Kate is a musical genius, I love her greatly. Her "The Dreaming" album is my top1 of all time and the song "Breathing" from "Never for ever" is a masterpiece Greetings to every Kate's fan from Poland.😃♥️
2:16 I felt the same about school but was stupid enough to carry on with A-Levels at college and Bachelors degree at University. They just try to give you the false hope that working in an office at a higher level will really benefit and fulfil you in your life - what a lie that was.
Kate Bush was an amazing music genius and still is. She was so young and doesn't get nearly enough credit. Wuthering Heights is an amazing song and her other songs. I love seeing early on women in music successes like this but also sad how they were held back and how hard people can be on them. I'm just in a trance watching some of her music and its so rare now to see music like that so its precious.
Her most popular album but I wouldn't say it was her best. I'd struggle to pick one but The Dreaming and Aerial come before HOL for me. But they're all good.
I noticed that Kate very often had been wearing only one earring. Even in her red dress "Wuthering Heights" video. Was this in fashion in the 80s or is it a Kate's "thing"? I was born in 1983 so I don't really remember.😉 BTW, She looks beautiful here - which is nothing new. 😄 Beautiful, intelligent, humble and sublime woman.♥️ Greetings from Poland and thank you for uploading the interview.
I just love the way she is so softly spoken, I've always said I love Kate speaking voice as much as her singing! She's the best. By the way, do you have interview she did with Adam Curry?
I have so many questions and would like her answers about "the ninth wave". "And dream of sheep" is such a haunting, deeply intense song for me and I would love her commentary on this work. The media never asked these questions and typically focused on the questions that made her uncomfortable. Its unfortunate that great artists like Kate are pressed for mundane answers to mainstream questions and not asked questions that they would feel more comfortable and rewarding (at least for the fans) surrounding their art and what their work means to everyone who loves it.
She is fantastic! She’s so careful hear about what she reveals; however, I listen to his songs and I just respond from the words alone, I don’t even have to know what this song is supposed to mean what what film it pays reference too. However, this is interesting to hear what movies she likes or comedians.
1:25 is so sad why do people care so much about her weight and looks when she said herself its about the music not her! when she did a comeback and released Ariel the horrible comments were so uncalled for as they weren't critiquing the music, but Kate herself!
Crazy how back in the 80s not releasing an album for a couple of years was rare and ppl might forget about you, these days in the space of 5 years most bands release 2 mediocre albums (in comparison to 60s, 70s, 80s) and do 2 world tours.
Why do I get the sense that under that sweet, polite, endearing woman, there is an overpowering force of nature that could just completely engulf and obliterate one?
the 80s hair style is so cool. also, love her accent. figured she'd sound more posh cause she's southern but she's slightly more normal sounding than i suspected
She must get so bored with these tedious questions... She's far more intelligent and creative than her interviewers. I have the sense that she's only there because she has to be. What a legend.
I totally agree, but you don't choose your intelligence. Kate was lucky to be born with a musical ear, and with such intelligence. You can't blame people for being stupid.

Wow so much wisdom and insight in one interview. No wonder her songwriting is so and was so spot on..
Well done to the interviewer who asked a lot of interesting, perceptive questions.
Good old telly yes, even though it's a programme aimed for a youngish audience the interviews were usually very adult not the loud nonsense we get today.
I could listen to her all day and all night.
This genius beautiful woman makes million men fall in love.
“It’s not quite as basic as that…”, @11:58 pretty much sums up Kate Bush.
She knows who she is and was in the right time as her talent would have been overlooked by todays music industry
There is great sensual , intellectual , emotional , and funky depth in Kate Bush songs beyond the surface storyline of the song. Cloudbusting, for instance, sure doesn't solely have to be just about making rain in the sky - not in my chosen interpetation anyway.
What a beautiful voice.
She is very attractive and real
Kate bush is so inspiring. ❤
Television changed the way people speak.
@@felixmarvin1199 At least in part, yes.
What a British icon, She did the right thing building her own studio in her childhood country home in Kent rather then spening loads of money on studio time in London
I met her twice as a kid among other people in that circle, But even more so her dad Robert Bush-My friend and his family their family GP was Robert which was in: Plumstead South East London-Lovley man
@Baby Hunn Yes I did meet Hannah yes, don't think I would forget that lol
Remember when she brought out a massive jug of orange squash for me and my friend-Frazer!
Who's nurse, She worked as a staff nurse at Epsom Grove Hospital-Surrey
Where you from?
@Baby Hunn Ah good old NY, been there many times since a small kid in 80's for a holiday among other parts of the US!
No Hannah had met Robert before he was a GP. And his practice was in London in Plumstead not Surrey!
I don't live that far from her childhood home in county of Kent in Welling-I'm also in Kent near Dartford!
Have you been to the UK before??
@Baby Hunn Oh yeah, where did you stay and what did you do while you here in the mid 90's 😁
No Bexleyheath is where she was born but the house where she grew up in was just down the road in Welling!
When you said its almost time for you to wake up I was still sleeping for 3 hours. lol
Oh so just in London then-should of got a train into Kent-my part of Kent to London only takes 35 mins on the train. 😁
As I am writing this it is 9am in New York and 2pm here!
building a home studio with all that equipment was really expensive, but in the long run it isn't-Typical artists normally spend at least 6 months doing an album and if you recorded that at EMI that would of been something like 3 grand a day so total that up for 6 months!
Not just that but also the producer and engineer get their cut, which Kate didn't have to do.
+ Abby Road would be like 5 grand a day which would ten obviously come out of what ever you made with single/album in the charts!
Where as a home studio you have no constant pressure!
Del met her in summer of 1976, when she was 18, well to me as I was local and also because my friend and his familes GP was DR Robert Bush it was much earlier meeting them than at a record signing their album etc
When d you think yu will be next in the UK for a holiday-I mean been 25 very long years(take it you went before Sept)??
Just like the fab 4 where were/are also Irish Celts and so Is our dear Kate.
This is such a great interview with Kate. Thank you soooooo much for this clip! Which is one that I don't has been posted on YT yet.
2:16 I felt the same about school but was stupid enough to carry on with A-Levels at college and Bachelors degree at University. They just try to give you the false hope that working in an office at a higher level will really benefit and fulfil you in your life - what a lie that was.
Nice interview! And hey, The Dreaming is probably my favorite album! :) Thanks for uploading.
The bloke's sat there thinking "Fucking hell this is one hell of a good-looking woman and I'm finding it hard to concentrate"
yeah she was pretty guarded I thought although did give quite decent replies
Hello Kate!
Thanks for all you work over the years. Your originality and singing and choreography/
In 1985 she seemed a different person than before or after....very confidedent..perhaps because hounds of love was her best Album..
I thought The Dreaming was her pinnacle. I love HOL but nothing beats The Dreaming for me
Her most popular album but I wouldn't say it was her best. I'd struggle to pick one but The Dreaming and Aerial come before HOL for me. But they're all good.
i still have to listen all of her albums but i think her best is the sensual world.
@@Coasterdude02149 The same here !!!
Hounds of Love is one of the most artistically successfully realized albums of the 80s. It’s aged extremely well.
I could listen to her talk all day.
aspect ratio very unflattering
One of my all time favourite lady of music
Looks like a young Liz Taylor
I noticed that Kate very often had been wearing only one earring. Even in her red dress "Wuthering Heights" video. Was this in fashion in the 80s or is it a Kate's "thing"? I was born in 1983 so I don't really remember.😉 BTW, She looks beautiful here - which is nothing new. 😄 Beautiful, intelligent, humble and sublime woman.♥️ Greetings from Poland and thank you for uploading the interview.
I was born in 1983 also and as a kid, I remember seeing lots of girls wear one earring. I think it was an 80’s fashion thing.
I just love the way she is so softly spoken, I've always said I love Kate speaking voice as much as her singing! She's the best. By the way, do you have interview she did with Adam Curry?
Makes a change to see her talking to a decent, sympathetic interviewer.
One in a billion.
She is special!
Great singer..
Beautiful
She is fantastic! She’s so careful hear about what she reveals; however, I listen to his songs and I just respond from the words alone, I don’t even have to know what this song is supposed to mean what what film it pays reference too. However, this is interesting to hear what movies she likes or comedians.
Key word for sucess is "hard work" and she took a risk. What a bright girl.
1:25 is so sad why do people care so much about her weight and looks when she said herself its about the music not her! when she did a comeback and released Ariel the horrible comments were so uncalled for as they weren't critiquing the music, but Kate herself!
MAYBE she's slowly regretting making that comeback? I think being away from the spotlight for a long period of time did some good to her
@@planetx1595or maybe she isn't, what a strange thing to say
This women is surreal
Thanks Menro, this is fabulous x
The amount of fantastic talent in the eighties
essa mulher me hipinotiza.......
Crazy how back in the 80s not releasing an album for a couple of years was rare and ppl might forget about you, these days in the space of 5 years most bands release 2 mediocre albums (in comparison to 60s, 70s, 80s) and do 2 world tours.
Amazing looking woman, those eyes! Wow!
what a wonderful wonderful artist and person . Another level
beautiful woman.
She's so beautiful
I didn't know Kate like the film 'Don't Look Now'. I love that movie too.
She is such an inspiration and GODDESS!
I think i'm in love
Love her work 🌹
You're welcome! Doesn't she look gorgeous ?
Beautiful in all of the proper ways.
12:20 omg the way she says superb melts me lol
You'll like how she sings 'Blow it a kiss now' here 🙂

Kate = perfect 10 in every regard
Soothing girl
Girl was a natural beauty, not a tart up.
I really wanted to know more of her opinion about school.
Amazing... Great quality
She sure is lovely 😍 👌
That interviewer! "Do you just take drowning in your stride?" "Any plans to start a family?" Eeeekk.
This is pure unintentional ASMR.. her voice is so wonderful
She. Looks. Amazing
Why do I get the sense that under that sweet, polite, endearing woman, there is an overpowering force of nature that could just completely engulf and obliterate one?
@Jeff Peate Yes, soul for sure....but something else.. a kind of potency that one usually only feels directly from the power of the earth.
You must have heard her music
Look at her eyes, my God they can literally kill a man.
I love how soft spoken she is
Just saw this clip and it's great. I love how she says that music suggests the subject of the song. Didn't John Lennon say something similar?
Kate Bush is everything...
Kate is unique ! Love her and her music X
the 80s hair style is so cool. also, love her accent. figured she'd sound more posh cause she's southern but she's slightly more normal sounding than i suspected
She must get so bored with these tedious questions... She's far more intelligent and creative than her interviewers. I have the sense that she's only there because she has to be. What a legend.
What’s wrong with the questions. Do you think you could do a better job.
I totally agree, but you don't choose your intelligence. Kate was lucky to be born with a musical ear, and with such intelligence. You can't blame people for being stupid.
Un génie cette femme 🚺
Absolument. Je suis contente de voir un français.
