Seeing new NiGHTS discoveries in 2021 warms my heart, man. Big ups for this.
25 years later and we're still learning things about it. It's a crazy time, right now.
Man, you guys are killing it with these discoveries! I hope we get to see more of NiGHTS' secrets.
There's certainly a ton of stuff i didn't talk about in this video because i want to let Gremmar post their discoveries on the main site first. But once it's up, i will be covering more of those discoveries in a future video.
God, I still can't believe NiGHTS things are HAPPENING in 2021, let alone all of the amazing discoveries being uncovered by the team. 😭
It's mad, innit. lol. Who knows. Ten years from now the fanbase will be developing their own games.

Sega should just give us a legacy game of all their Dreamcast games, so many great memories playing Nights and Phantasy Star ✨

Nights was never on Dreamcast save for cameos. BUT it was included in the Dreamcast collection for XBOX 360.

Wait! 8:42 - 8:43 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is something orange in the back that I've never seen before (when Elliot collects the Ideya and the camera turns). It looks like an orange house?
You're right, there is something there! I never noticed that before. It's very brief but you can almost see a window or something. It could be a house. Or maybe part of the train? The train is of similar colours. Either way, great job spotting that. I didn't see that at all.
Nights has reached a new level
8:06 There are two energy bars!! One is the green one we see in the game and there is a red one at the bottom right that never appeared in the game!
Upon further observation, I think the second bar might belong to the Ideya Capture's energy? During the short clip of NiGHTS in Mystic Forest at 8:48 when NiGHTS breaks the Ideya Capture you can quickly see the energy bar empties.
I wonder if the supposed ‘door’ would bring you to a secret level/boss of some sort...? The fact that the footage shows him jumping towards it specifically is exceptionally interesting.
Maybe... the door would bring the player to Selph, the deleted secret boss!!!! 😱😱😱 --Just Kidding--
@@dreamdragon2728 my guess is there would be a door in every level leading to a bonus stage, clearing them all would lead you to fighting selph instead of wizeman. when they were cut, thats proly when selph was cut. i also dont believe twin seeds or the cut spiral-claris level would have a door, being the last level and all
Maybe the 'Blue Door' was originally intended to be the doorway to the boss of the respective level and could only be accessed once the Ideya was obtained? Might explain why the Ideya Palace looked different in the beta too (because i noticed there's no slots for the Ideya to go in not to mention there being only 3 pillars)
My interpretation is that the doors warp Claris/Elliot back to ideya palace, or there may have possibly been a few doors dotted around the level as quick ways to move Claris/Elliot around the level. The final game focused very much on Nights flying, so the doors may have made it too easy to avoid the alarm clock in Claris/Elliot mode, and I wonder if the game in development split the game more so that half the game was flying and the other half was platforming
Seeing datamining of both the port, and Sega Saturn NiGHTS game on the year of their 25th anniversary feels really magical. I’m so grateful for this incredibly talented and dedicated community keeping love for all things NiGHTS alive 💜 🌟

As someone who only played NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams, seeing all this stuff for the first game is pretty cool! I wish the team the best of luck on discovering and extracting more hidden goodies!
I would not be surprised if the Blue Door was never made functional before it was cut and the reason the video cuts away from Eliot leaping to it is because nothing happens. He either just stands on its base or passes right through the entire object. Unless the cut to NiGHTS was its function. Perhaps in earlier builds you were able to switch between the dreamer walking along the ground and NiGHTS flying through the sky via the use of some objects. The Blue Door severing as the dreamer's way to go back to controlling NiGHTS, wherever they may be located elsewhere in the level. Maybe there's another "Door" that's just lurking in the data waiting to be found that was going to be NiGHTS' way to go back to the Dreamer in a way that doesn't involve running out of time. Or perhaps the same object was used for both.
It's so incredible when you think about it. There are people who are absolutely passionate about NiGHTS and there are people who are geniuses in tech related things such as datamining. But those two interests may not always line up, which leads to certain discoveries and breakthroughs taking a prolonged amount of time. With games like Mario and Zelda who have much more massive fanbases, you're more likely gonna hear these stories and discoveries pop up quicker, because there's a much larger pool of people who have the potential to both have interest in finding these things, as well as have the ability to make the discovery in the first place. With more cult franchises like NiGHTS however, just like with getting any sort of new game news from Sega, getting any sort of new discoveries on anything hidden within the games that we didn't already know about will be very rare occurrences. I'm very much looking forward to seeing where these datamines go and seeing what else we may find thats been buried away and unknown to the rest of the world for so long.
That's literally it. Because the NiGHTS community is much smaller than others, it takes a longer time for the right people to come on board and do amazing things like this. I really want to try and encourage dataminers from other games to jump on board the NiGHTS project and help out. Imagine what we could do with more manpower.
I can only hope this shows sega intrest in nights is still alive

I hope the dataminers can find something regard the deleted Spiral Claris level in the game files. There is nothing related to the level found so far, besides its nickname in the files.

Fucking insane, this is so rad. As far as I know, this is the first time a Saturn game has been decompiled by fans to this extent, and could lead to some even more incredible developments down the line.
Ah man, this is so COOL!! It's absolutely wild that new stuff is being discovered this far on from the original release.
It also occurs to me that the remaster pipeline was probably something like original data (from whatever beta build) -> import into new dev environment -> create remastered assets -> decide whether to use new assets - hence the Mecha NiGHTS sprite being remade and then a 3D version getting built before being dummied out. Probably something similar happened with the E3 demo, where whatever else was going on at the time just got dummied out instead of properly removed due to it not really mattering either way for disc production.
I'm sad there was no mention of the unused Wizeman hand as well as the debunking of the famous "mirror staff" rumor

I kinda would like to see Journey of Dreams be datamined, whos knows what could be found in there. Unless its already been done and if so I would love to know more about that.
Ketrin did look through JoD and found a few neat little things, but there wasn't much. JoD would definitely benefit from having a small team datamine it further. I might try and do a video on it at some point, if i can.
Have you seen the creepy unused pair of hands called "God Hands" that the dataminers found? So far, I think that is all the interesting unused stuff from JOD that they found. Also, a possible Beta design for the Dream Gate's doors.
I dunno if it's been covered but there was a metallic looking model of NiGHTS in JoD and I've heard some ppl speculate whether it was meant to be a reference to Selph, an unused boss from into dreams.

Yup! I know about the teeth, lol. I'm saving that for next video though. I wanted this one to speak more about the breakthrough itself, and cover just a few of the weird things (like the E3 demo stuff). Plus, i want to give Gremmar and the team the time they need to dig through stuff and document their findings on the website first. But i'll definitely be speaking about the teeth, don't worry.

So I was watching gameplay of Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, and there’s a NiGHTS Into Dreams themed racetrack that has a door you have to fly through that leads you to a boss fight themed area of the racetrack. It doesn’t look like the blue door here, and I kind of doubt it’s evidence that this door here would lead to a boss fight area, but maybe that’s something it could’ve been used for before the final release of the game.

I think that's a long way off. At the moment the team are just figuring out how to extract small pieces. Trying to figure out how to mod it back in is another task entirely. It's not impossible though, it's just very likely that we won't see such a thing for a long time.

Call me overspeculative but the door looks like its the same colour as one of those unused head graphics. Maybe if following your assumption that they are collectables, those doors could be activated by collecting them? After that I'm not sure. Also this image at 11:20 cracks me up
Welp, just stumbled across this, and it appears that NIDREP project page hasn't been updated since the post that you show on your video from November 16th 2021, nearly 3 years ago.
So I'm guessing this project died? Or did it migrate somewhere?
Just a guess that the blue door is what you need to go through to turn from claris or elliot into Nights??
I did initially wonder if it was some sort of gateway that warps you back to the Ideya Palace where you can dualize with NiGHTS again. That was another theory. But at the this time, we're not even sure if it is a 'door'. I could be entirely wrong and it could be some other object. I guess we'll have to wait and see if anything else turns up.

Hey, I know this is really off topic but I wanted to reccomend you a game called "Wandersong" , some people from night in the woods worked on it and (based off of some of your other videos) I think you'd really like it. It fairly cheap and I think you should give it a try!!!

Maybe the blue door is the exit? What if it's like Monsters Inc? What if Mecha Nights was a toy and was scrapped because of Toy Story coming out around that time and they didn't want to look too similar? I mean we already had Clockwork Knight. lol What if the kids go through the door to end up in this toy land of sorts?
Data mining is interesting, but I do wonder why it is so exciting for an old game like NiGHTS.
Not hating on the community who is passionate about it. But I do wonder what else besides just finding unused materials and assets do they hope to reach? I think just cause I like knowing the end goal of all of this.
With so much effort being put in, do they hope to rebuild the unused levels and missions of the game? Or find their was suppose to be yet another game later down the line but got scapped? I just like wondering what the end goal is.
Data mining current or still updated games make sense cause we can hints into future content, (Skins, story missions, events, DLCs and things like that.) With an older game like NiGHTS it is interesting to know where they plan to go with all of this.
Its just interesting to know what could have been in these classic games, what changed in development, or whole missing mechanics like the blue door.
Speaking personally, it's a discovery and preservation thing, as well hopes for reverse engineering. Video Games are unlike any other medium, where a complete game can still contain tons of unused content, and by discovering it we are not only uncovering the games mysteries but we can learn more about what the developers might have initially planned for the game at one point. Furthermore, it allows us to better understand how the game was built and from that we can potentially learn to build our own. In the case of Saturn games, they were programmed and coded in a difficult manner, it's always been tough to datamine games that were developed for the system. NiGHTS on the Saturn always seemed closed-off, an impossible door to get through... and the fact that we're actually stepping through that doorway now is an exhilarating feeling.
