Great review guys. I think you actually meant salmon terrine or salmon mousse. Salmon cheesecake is a no no. Mind you, with capers it's game on. Seriously, Springbank are a strong distillery. Every expression is no compromise. I'll say this - the Hazeleburn Barolo 9 year is excellent as is the Longrow 13 year Malbec but wine finishes can be highly risky. This one needs a a few drops of water to open up. In conclusion - boys get more Springbank/Hazelburn/Longrow. Fantastic stuff with a touch of 'old fashioned' about it - in the good sense.
Welsh Toro hello Welsh. I’m in Florida so I’m lucky if I find springbank at all. When I have it’s the 10 and 15 yr old. Just recently found and purchased 2 bottles of the 12 cask strength batch 15. I love it. The same store carries bottles I’ve never seen before. So if you could suggest any two of the following that I’ve never tried I’d appreciate it. Kilkerran 12, deanston 12, longrow nas, hazelburn 10,clynelish 14.
17:32 Haven't had the bottling, but it's one I'd certainly try at a shop or festival. It's a special bottling for sure, as you rightly said red wine cask maturations are pretty peculiar in flavour and can be hit or miss. Surely I don't expect Springbank to fail in their endeavour but their more intensely peated Longrow Red attracts me more and was/is way cheaper over here than the over the roof Springbank 12 burgundy prices (150 vs 70 EUR!) and their regular versions of the 12 cask strength are superb at half the cost. To sum it up it's a high quality malt for sure, but personally, when going for the more unusual I try to get other stuff for this amount of money, like the Benriach 19 single cask port finish I told you about and that cost me the same you paid for the Burgundy. That said if you lived over here I'd gladly swap samples with you... ;-)
It does help, but more importantly we find sharing scotch with friends just makes it more enjoyable. I'm sure our wives are sick of it because that's all we talk about when we're together. It's been even more fun sharing it all on this channel. We're getting to know so many other people and learning something every day about scotch!~Cheers, Mark
I am almost finished with a bottle of Springbank 16 Cask Strength Amontillado. It is heaven in a bottle:) I should be reviewing it on my channel in the next month or so. If you can find a bottle of it..it is worth every penny.
My boss just picked this up for me in Calgary, Alberta was the last bottle they (Willow Park) had and yet put it aside for me for a week until he got there. This review was perfect timing as I will have it in my hands on Friday. Also bringing back an Amrut Portnova at 62.1% ABV so the SB is a light weight ABV wise. Cheers
Hi Peter, Let us know what you think. I got two bottles of this the day it was released because I thought it was going to be snapped up by the speculators. I've finished one bottle and the other is for the future. It's more than doubled in price since I got it. (There will be tons of it on Scottish auction sites as per usual.) It's Springbank alright and I like it but not as much as the guys. Wine finishes are risky. I recently got the Hazelburn 9 year Barolo Finish and that is excellent. Love the Portonova which improves with age and air. Cheers. WT
Not sure when I will open it, did try the Portnova last night, nose is off the scale, little water management and about 1 hour to drink a 1.5 oz pour. Fantastic stuff. I have a Glen Garioch 1998 Wine Cask Matured coming from NS, should be interesting as well, 15 years in wine cask. Cheers
Glenmorangie Companta is an interesting Red wine whisky. Uses both Rhone and fortified red wine barrels, and as Glenmorangie is very light it really showcases the wine flavours.
very nice review ... still waiting for a review on a glen moray 15 year lol I love the scotch. Just curious on what you guys think of it. keep up the great work guys
hello guys you're awesome !! and very wonderful review 👍🏻 we would love to see you reviewing Connemara peated single Malt whiskey please .. you will love it !! thanks cheers ✌🏻️
S4D, certainly sounds unique. I've read Springbank is old school and therefore does not function like the mass producing distilleries. I have the Longrow 18 yr and last month found the Springbank 12 CS, both are hard to find. I have yet to taste any Springbank, as I've mentioned before I have to many open bottles. I'm working on that though. Great review.
S4D, If I had some drinking buddies, I don't think I would have this problem of to many open bottles. That will soon change though. Can't wait to try the SB and my many others awaiting.
They are complex whiskies though, one minute you are picking up one note, then it will send you off in a completely other direction with another soon after. They are delicious though and should be a mainstay on any serious whisky lover's shelf.
Hey guys so I'm just getting into scotch I've had quite a few already and I'm really stuck on the dalmore 12 I was hoping you guys can recommend me some other must have in your opinion for entry level anywhere up to about the 70$ range???
This one got the famous Springbank 'funk' on the nose? That little off note you think is going to put you off, then you drink the stuff and love it? You can't beat a Springbank, each one is so full of character.

Springbank is king😃 Just got a bottle of this, will open it and enjoy it with you when you go live!🥃

How can we work out these "swaps" through the mail...without losing any to the customs monsters?
Salmon cheesecake. Want! With capers.
That would necessitate a pairing with smoked fresh water eel and a garnish of anchovies...
Great Review guys...I just bought this and can't wait to get into it and review. Wish I had more friends like you guys to share the costs:) Slainte!

You guys have to get the Springbank 12 Cask Strength or the 18. They are to die for!
+The Malted Man Cave We have not had either of those bottles. Springbank does some nice work and will have to get to those. ~Andrew
Aye I've had a couple of bottles of the 12 CS, and I can tell the Dummies that they won't be disappointed when they eventually grab a bottle of it.

Fine review, guys! You picked up a rare one that I'll probably never see, but I do have some of that Tully 228 just to get your general drift...
That 228 is pretty good stuff!

SB really does some good stuff and this is very reflective of it. I think it's high time you tasted some SB....~Mark

Springbank stills have 'rummagers(sp)' ie iron chains, inside that rotate to avoid burning.
This one got the famous Springbank 'funk' on the nose? That little off note you think is going to put you off, then you drink the stuff and love it?
You can't beat a Springbank, each one is so full of character.
Very interesting and entertaining, Thanks
Thanks HBW101!
You need to try the Springer's peaty red wine sister, Longrow Red then! :-)
I can see that in the future.....~Mark
I've seen that around here, but haven't gotten round to getting it yet. Will definitely grab one soon though.
Good review sounds great
I'd really love to have a bottle of this one but the price is just too high right now. Perhaps they will release another batch...
SB puts out good juice!!!~Mark
Salmon cheesecake? That just sounds nasty! lol Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye out for something like this one.
Now I really want to hear your review of it...LOL~Mark
I just got this one, but I can't decide on opening this now, or the Cairdeas 2017, or the Talisker Distiller's. Decisions!
