  • The most recent composition commissioned by the Heidelberger Frühling Music Festival, sponsored by Dietrich Götze, was awarded to the American composer William Bolcom, born in 1938. The new work - William Bolcom's Second Piano Concerto - is dedicated to Igor Levit and was premiered in the auditorium of the New University Heidelberg as part of the Heidelberger Frühling Music Festival 2022. Igor Levit played the solo part, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra was conducted by Elim Chan.

    Der jüngste Kompositionsauftrag des Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestivals, gefördert von Dietrich Götze, ging an den 1938 geborenen US-amerikanischen Komponisten William Bolcom. Das neue Werk - William Bolcoms 2. Klavierkonzert - ist Igor Levit gewidmet und wurde im Rahmen des Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestivals 2022 in der Aula der Neuen Universität Heidelberg uraufgeführt. Igor Levit übernahm den Solopart, das Mahler Chamber Orchestra wurde von Elim Chan dirigiert.

    Beautiful! Can't praise this too much. The music, the orchestra, the soloist, the conductor! This is truly an ideal premiere. I can't believe he's 84 but this is only his 2d PC. Gives hope to the rest of us.

    Thank you. Streamed on tv both Documentation and the premiering William Bolsom’s Second Piano Concerto. Igor Levit ,The Mahler Chamber Orchestra conducted by Elim Chan were amazing! The composer was happy applauding them! Great success!

    Maestro Levit is one of the most talented and adventurous pianists working today. Bravo! Lovely work by one of my favorite composers.

    My goodness! It is SO RARE these days when I listen to a NEW PIECE of music, that I have thoroughly enjoyed so much! Mr. BOLCOM and Mr. LEVIT - you have both won me over! ♥♥♥♥♥ Here is a piece that will be played many times in the future! 😁

    wow difficult piece I can tell without seeing the score. I may struggle playing this one.

    Sorry, but no one really cares about this music anymore. I've heard Levit many times and he's trying to stay relevant, but this is One and Done music.
    PS I used to work for NY Philharmonic. When we were planning new season we used to joke that if we put on Beethoven's 5th every night we would sell out every night.
    Of course, we couldn't do that.

      Your are totally right; let's play Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner over and over and over. I really do not wonder why the average concertgoer is 110 and deaf in the meantime...
