HOW TO WORLD PREMIERE - Igor Levit, Elim Chan, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, William Bolcom

Until a newly composed work is performed in public for the first time, many things remain uncertain: What will it sound like? How will the audience react to the new piece? And what will actually remain of the music?
The documentary HOW TO WORLD PREMIERE takes a look behind the scenes and accompanies pianist Igor Levit, conductor Elim Chan and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra during rehearsals for William Bolcom's Second Piano Concerto. This most recent composition commissioned by the Heidelberger Frühling Music Festival, sponsored by Dietrich Götze, was premiered in April 2022.

Bis ein neu komponiertes Werk zum ersten Mal öffentlich gespielt wird, bleibt vieles ungewiss: Wie wird es klingen? Wie wird das Publikum auf das neue Stück reagieren? Und was wird eigentlich von der Musik bleiben?
Die Dokumentation HOW TO WORLD PREMIERE blickt hinter die Kulissen und begleitet Pianist Igor Levit, Dirigentin Elim Chan und das Mahler Chamber Orchestra bei den Proben zu William Bolcoms 2. Klavierkonzert. Diese jüngste Auftragskomposition des Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestivals, gefördert von Dietrich Götze, wurde im April 2022 uraufgeführt.

Igor Levit is as much fun to watch as he is to listen to. His playing looks both effortless and graceful, and he’s adorably cute, too!

He's a great artist whose probing of the piano literature is desperately needed. It's certainly true he's gotten quite handsome, but that's just part of his quiet charisma. Some think his political advocacy is posturing, but I think he's a real mensch.

Danke für dieses tolle Making of!!! Es war so großartig, die Uraufführung zu hören - und was für ein Geschenk, jetzt nochmal daran erinnert zu werden. Wenn ein Musikstück geboren und in die Welt freigesetzt wird, ist das etwas so Besonderes, dass es einem Herz und Seele ganz besonders anrührt.
