Hi Donald- Great shave and razor review; thank you! A very nice job with the Pearl- it really moved through your beard. I hope you have a great weekend. Take good care and be safe and be well. See you next Saturday. All the best, Donald.
I've seen both -- no issue and having the gap issue. With *your* razor, I saw a slight difference on one side starting at about 3 (started on the left when the 1 was facing us and then switched to the right when you turned the razor over). But it was must less that version 1. Like you, I wouldn't shave with it above 2 or 3 so that problem wouldn't affect me. Great video as always, Don. Be safe and keep warm.
*_Thanks for watching and your comments. I was not sure if I turned the razor around but glad you caught that you have a keen eye my friend. So glad it did not affect my shave because I can see myself using this many other times._*
I have Version 5. The problems have all been resolved. The blade is perfect at every setting and the top piece fits flush to the bottom piece. Awesome razor for the price.
Don great video! At 3.5 I can see the gap starting to become uneven. It’s not as bad as the version 1 but it’s still a little off. With a little fine tuning pearl will have it will right on.
*_Thanks for watching Matthew they have a new batch coming out in March I'm not sure if they plan on doing any more tooling but that might prove to be the way to perfection with this razor._*
Great review, you can see the blade and the top cap is not even at all, level 3 upwards, the problem before was the blade and the safety bar was not even, and this is the new version?
Excellent review Don! Very objective and honest, especially the part showing dialing in all the numbers under magnification to see if the blade gap exists. I have the v1 and v2..while the v1 had a slightly loose spring which perhaps made the issue come up at higher numbers, the v2 doesn't have any such issue on my copy.. I've always loved all your products and thr wtf forum too.. not so active nowadays on Facebook though.. have the V1 shave bowl and some soaps, would love to get this bowl design. thanks for the wonderful shave videos!
Great review. I love the grading system you use. I have a version two that I have used a few times and I find it is fantastic and there are no alignment issues with it. I did use it on setting five and found it too aggressive at that level. 2-3 seem to be the sweet spot for me. I have to say the razor it looks stunning. When I ordered it I put a message and ask if they would engrave the top cap and they did for free.
*_That's Awesome I was kind of bummed when the cap did not have the logo on it but your idea was a good one. Thanks for watching and for the kind words_ *
Interesting name for the blades. Not sure I'd want everyone to know I shave with Willys. Seems like Pearl may have fixed the issue. Glad to see there's enough interest to generate new products!
@@FrankDAgostino77 What? The blades? I doubt that as the Pearl brand actually belongs to a metal company called Madhav Metals. They're probably better off making them in-house. I got a tuck of those blades with another Pearl razor I purchased earlier and found them very smooth, but not very durable - good for three shaves tops.
Excellent review Don. I did notice yours had the same issue as my V2, but maybe to a lesser extent. Paul H's looks like it has the same problem but he didn't mention it in his video. I've emailed Pearl a week ago but as I write this, I've not heard back from them. I love the way this razor looks, feels and shaves. The fault doesn't take away anything from the shave at all. Let's hope they tweak V3 so that its perfect. Cheers. Kevy 🙂
*_Thanks for watching Kevy, I agree the shave was amazing and had no effect on performance even with this issue. So I give it a thumbs up. IF and when they see this and they want to offer me another one to test I will be open to that but or now this is working just fine for me. Stay safe my friend_*
Mr Don, Thanks for reviewing and commenting "Good" as per the Quality of razor. Dipesh Bhai, Keep it up with Quality. Mr Don your comments carries weightage
Just watched your review and found it very interesting. I currently have the Rockwell T2 SS. How does the Pearl Flexi compare, regardless of price, strictly looking for a quality of construction and performance review. Looking forward to your response.
Wally, I have to say if quality is what your looking for then look no further than Rockwell T2 SS. Yes pearl Flexi is a good Razor but they are all overly aggressive if that your thing then go for it. For me I find no difference in performace and quality with Pearl Performance good quality good (after big issue with blade tilt ) here is my review on the flexi - ua-cam.com/video/kArEOOsZ2_s/v-deo.html
Great review Don, didn’t see an issue with your razor, but believe your friend can still request for a replacement as Pearl has great customer service.
I think people are taking the whole ''uneven blade'' way too seriously and most adjustable razors have at least a tiny difference and even some 3 piece razors have it. From what I can see, there's either VERY slight misalignment or it's simply from the reflection of the light and it seems uneven. I've seen photos of Razorock GC with loaded blades that look uneven, but they aren't and they just seem that way from the light/shadow/reflection/ or whatever. As you can see from the comments, pretty much everyone sees different things.
*_That's why I did the test people see different things but when it comes down to it I had a wonderful shave. So the issue is not really an issue for me anyway. Thanks for watching._*
I have had V1 and it didn’t see any issues and like you said I may not using setting 5 or 6 but it’s working ok with me so ; very details review Don great shave with it
the top head to blade looks uneven but the actual razor gap looks linear and straight to work.Just curious why do you only use one side of double edge and not fill up both sides before rinse? My Dad did the same thing and always ended up with nicks just because one side was sharper than the other, well that and he over used to a dull blade.
@@MrDonXX Jesus and they still can't get a even top to bottom gap? That uneven top could result in pinching if you have longer hair growth at higher setting.I can easily see that top of the blade not completely flush to the head could grab a longer full growth hair then get caught and yank.
The only imbalance I viewed was the uneven gap between the blade and top cap. Not sure if you had blade set into razor correctly or the blade itself is defective. The base plate and top cap seemed to be correct. Thanks for the review of this razor!
*_Thanks for the comments Jim the cap of the razor is keyed so it would be very hard to misalign or you would not be able to close and lock it in place_*
Doesn't matter if your Blade is not parallel with top cap, but it was parallel with base plate and the pearl coffee soap and Willy's blade are really awesome.
For me it was hard to tell if there was a variance in the blade gap. The way the light was reflecting off the top cap etc. drew me away from the actual gap between the blade and the lower guard. So having said that I tried to ignore the lighting/shadow variance and I have to say the blade gap looked even to me. Thanks for the informative video. BTW, I’ve gone to their website several times and see the razors are sold out.
*_Thanks for watching Tom, I was lucky that they sent me this to review, and yes they are all sold out once again. They do have a 3rd run going which will be ready in March. Even if mine does have the issue I don't see it affecting the shave any so put your name on the list if you feel like getting one_*

Would that "hack" work with the Pearl Flexi? My guess is they have tightened the tolerance somewhat, but maybe there's still enough wiggle to allow that slight slant. At 2 and 3, to be honest, if it was slanted, its very minimal.

The Rex is very clearly ‘inspired/cloned’ from a french Gibbs adjustable razor produced from 1938 to the mid 1950’s. I’m new to the double edge shaving community but if I’m honest there seems to be very few original designs, but a lot of tributes, reworked, clone versions. Both definitely come from this razor design source handles aside the head is virtually the same on both. Also if I remember correctly the Rex had a few issues of its own in its first run. I’m not being down on the quality, time and craftsmanship Matt has put into the Rex, and I would love one, but I have a v2 of this and it’s given me a better shave so far than the fat boy, progress and futur I own.
One thing for sure Pearls customer service is excellent and go extremely out of the way to satisfy their customers..

This to me looks very much like a Rex ambassador clone.
*_Yes this has been pointed out and one has to ask the question is the Rex Ambassador a clone of something else? or an original design._*
There is definitely a blade gap between the blade and the top cap. See this pic: i.postimg.cc/BbCbQz5F/Pearl-blade-gap.jpg
*_Thanks for your comments, yes I see it thank god I will never use that setting_*
Terrible blade deflection. Off from setting #1 to #6. Hard Pass.
*_Thanks for the comments Paul and thanks for watching_*
